This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

So we’re now on 20,478,619 first doses. Phenomenal! Now let’s get to 21.2 so we can say that 40% of all UK adults have received their first dose!

I've just booked my first vaccine for a fortnight's time and am beyond excited!

40% is such a significant chunk isn’t it. Locally the council is saying that 100,000 have had it which is 35% of everyone including kids. So probably 40% of adults round here already which is fab.

Absolutely. It’ll be a fabulous milestone when we get there - not long to go now! Grin

I’ve got my first vaccine booked for next Monday (when my children are back in school).

Congratulations @CruCru! Which group are you?

I have had the Pfizer jab over a month ago ( nhs) Is there any data that shows that is still effective after the 12 week gap? It worries me that I will have a period of being unprotected. Everything I have seen is regarding the Oxford jab.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 02/03/2021 21:06

Sorry! Place-marking again! You fell off my threads I’m on and I neeeeeeed you Grin

Congratulations *@CruCru*! Which group are you?
I dunno to be honest. I got a CEV email a couple of weeks ago and now can book a vaccine (I’m in my early forties).
PuzzledObserver · 02/03/2021 21:26

40% is such a significant chunk isn’t it.

It is.... and when you add the as-yet unvaccinated people who have natural immunity through infection, we must be close to 50% of adults being protected.....

Blockedoff · 02/03/2021 21:31

My DH was done yesterday! I'm in the next group.

Can't wait!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 02/03/2021 21:56

Deaths are falling incredibly fast now - 36% week on week which is amazing.

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that by 2 weeks from now (so March 16th) we will have total weekly deaths of less than 700 - so less than 100 a day.

I really hope that I am right. Grin

Blockedoff · 02/03/2021 21:59

@Mumoftwoinprimary I also hope you're right!

I'm going to say by June 21st deaths in single figures!

buttery81 · 03/03/2021 09:46

Morning folks. Looking forward to 4pm as ever. Let’s get past 20.8 today please! Grin

I can get that if you want if I do my maths wrong like yesterday :)

but yes hope we are close to the 21m!

Me too - looking forward to that! Grin

@buttery81 Novavax’s MHRA review should be coming out soon shouldn’t it? Fingers crossed that’s an approval and we can get going with it alongside Moderna which we should be getting delivery of in the next few weeks. With supplies of 4 vaccines we would be able to move so much quicker!

Frazzled2207 · 03/03/2021 14:15

@lurker101
Have not heard anything about novavax approval coming (am a participant on the trial so always have ears to the ground in that) but I did hear that the JJ data was submitted last week.

Frazzled2207 · 03/03/2021 14:15

But it could be that in April/May there will be 5 vaccines available which is just amazing

EasterIssland · 03/03/2021 14:28

im looking forward to j&j getting approved! as that's a single dose!
thanks @Frazzled2207 for the info
I believe ema is approving it any time soon so hope Mhra does it as well!

I'm a breastfeeding mum so hoping they are all approved for bf mums... I cried the day I saw they were approving Pfizer and az as at the beginning was a no-no so that would have left me in an awkward position...

I've got the feeling march is going to be a good news month!

Not sure if this the right thread for these questions, but I was wondering about two things:

  1. They’ve reported about the impact on the vaccine on over 80s, but have there been any studies on the impact on healthcare workers as they were also in the first group to receive it?
  2. Is this massive drop in deaths/cases in any one particular environment? I.e. do we know the proportion of cases that were caught in hospitals / care homes / general community and has that changed?
