This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4155962-10-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to discuss our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain or anything else along those lines - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a mind-blowing 16,875,536 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 32% (or 1 in every 3.1) of all UK adults.

Every day, hundreds of thousands more people are gaining excellent levels of protection against this sodding virus. So, let’s keep jab jab jabbing our way onwards, upwards and out of this. Covid, we’re coming for ya!!!

It defaults to basing it on the previous week’s doses and we have had a low week so that was going to happen. If the numbers jump up again in March it will magically get a lot closer again.

mateysmum · 24/02/2021 08:26

DH hates needles but is booked in for Sunday. Since I checked yesterday all the Saturday appointments had gone which I think is a good sign. I'm the next group down so will keep checking to see if it opens up, despite what it says on the front page of the booking site. That would be group 8 for Somerset.

PuzzledObserver · 24/02/2021 09:00

Re the over 60’s booking via the national website, I was going to tell my sister who just turned 60, but decided to check first - because although I don’t know her NHS number, I do know her date of birth and postcode! It said she wasn’t eligible. So maybe it is area dependent.

PilatesPeach · 24/02/2021 10:50

My hub was closed for 5 days, open for a couple and is now closing again for 5 days as supply being diverted elsewhere. This 3rd or 4th time it has closed now. Am a bit concerned for the rollout. GPs cannot administer jabs at the same rate as a hub.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 24/02/2021 11:38

It must be a complete damn nuisance if you have an appointment booked for a day when someone has arbitrarily decided not to deliver the vaccine but divert the supply elsewhere. What happens to the people booked in for that day? Don't tell me they turn up and get turned away and told to re-book?

If they have decided on 6th May that some other site has greater need than here and I don't get my second jab on that day I'll be really quite put out...

PilatesPeach · 24/02/2021 14:33

They always know quite well in advance so 4 or 5 or 6 days - people are phoned and re-booked but yes disappointing and hope it won't happen for 2nd doses obviously.

CaveMum · 24/02/2021 14:46

Whoop, that’s more like it!

294,478 additional vaccine doses registered in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 yesterday (284,897 1st doses, 9,581 2nd doses)

29,754 in Scotland
18,403 in Wales

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/02/2021 14:47

Yay 🥳

Much better. They must have heard are impatience 😂😂😂

PilatesPeach · 24/02/2021 14:49

Fantastic news!

FaithfullyYours · 24/02/2021 15:16

Yay! BIL(CEV)nd I(CV) went for our jabs today so will be part of tomorrow's numbers.
Sadly the hub was empty except for the two of us and the volunteers..
We did go early-ish though so maybe that's the reason why.

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 15:23

oh that's good. I have heard several politicians stating however that this was expected to be a lumpy week and that March generally will be a lot better. And Boris wouldn't have said 'everyone vaccinated by July' if he didn't think it was realistic.
I am wondering when Moderna will be on the scene as the last I heard was 'March'. Also anxiously awaiting the green light for Novavax as I am a guinea pig for their trial. Full data not received yet but should be very soon. And then there's Janssen. All three of those could potentially be on the scene within weeks.

CaveMum · 24/02/2021 16:21

People vaccinated up to and including 23 February 2021
First dose: 18,242,873
Second dose: 669,105

That's 326,692 additional first doses since yesterday and another 26,317 second doses - our highest single day total by quite some way (previous high was around 20,000)

Frazzled2207 · 24/02/2021 16:28

Indeed is brilliant. However I can't find an exact figure for 2nd doses but I know a lot of that is happening in Wales where they seem to be well on the case with 2nd doses of Pfizer. Don't think it's happening much in England. It will soon though.

DH had his first dose on 29th December and original 2nd appointment was for 26th Jan. Rebooked for 18th March, which is 11 weeks and 2 days after 1st dose.

Remember back in late December/ early January they weren’t doing anywhere as near so many each day. Jan 10th was the first week in which over a million first doses were given, prior to that it was a few hundred thousand. So they’ve got another few weeks before the daily 2nd dose numbers really need to ramp up.

And they will :-)

Great numbers today!

Cases below 10k for the third time this week. And deaths have fallen week on week by a whopping 31%! Now 402 a day on average and lower than at the end of Lockdown 2!

Brilliant take up

Doing very well with the cev that is a massive group

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 24/02/2021 18:47

Got my 1st dose today, really relieved! Although I must admit when it got approved and my mum and dad got it I was all you have to have it it's safe etc and then my time comes ( and I was surprised it was so soon!) and I did a bit of Googling and find a few stories of bad side effects but I think the ones I saw were only a handful of people, I was a bit nervy and my anxiety was ramped up but I got it and I'm happy. No side effects as yet, except for my tummy feeling a bit woozy and some left shoulder feelings like a minute after which are consistent with my anxiety so I'm putting it down to that

QuidditchQueen · 24/02/2021 18:49

Love this thread!
My locality is racing thru’
I has the Pfizer jab today-not even a sore arm. Really positive experience - lots if friendly volunteers marshalling the (fast moving queue. Was done 10 mins after joining in the queue and then convivial 15 min wait after on comfy chair in the car park (sunny warm day here’)
I am under 60 with no heath issues normally but had whooping cough two years ago which apparently flagged on the GP system and a teacher which they also know as thru keep track of people’s jobs when you ho gor any appointment at GP.

QuidditchQueen · 24/02/2021 18:51

Unless making loads of typos is a side effect - blame it on that Grin

CoffeeandCroissant · 24/02/2021 19:44

I am wondering when Moderna will be on the scene as the last I heard was 'March'.
First week of April, but in very small quantities, so it's likely that under 1% of people in groups 1 to 9 will get Moderna. But supply of AZ and Pfizer should ramp up next month and as you say, looking further ahead Jannsen (J&J) and Novavax too.

Chocolo · 24/02/2021 20:16

Is the next big milestone July now? With every adult vaccinated?

Baileysforchristmas · 24/02/2021 20:21

I want the one jab vaccine, hopefully that will be available by the time they get round to me about the beginning of April.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 24/02/2021 20:25

@Chocolo

No the next really big one is when they finish groups 5 to 9 of the priority list. April probably but hoping for end of March ❤
