How much longer do you think Sturgeon will keep Scotland locked down after England? I know everything is speculation now, but even last year we didn’t have the “rule of 6” up here and we seem to have things a bit tougher.

I’m getting worried for so many friends and family and although I know eventually things will improve, it feels very much at the moment that Scotland is going to be held back. Many predict no indoor mixing until next year!

Who is predicting no indoor mixing until next year?

Morgan12 · 17/02/2021 07:52

I can't imagine no indoor mixing until next year. Our numbers are going down. I imagine this Summer will be like last Summer at least.

I'm worried about the schools going back on Monday though. I just don't see how it's safe if nothing else is allowed to change right now. It could be a mistake and drive the numbers back up.

dementedpixie · 17/02/2021 07:54

There are very limited pupils going back on Monday though. I don't know when my 2 secondary school kids will get back tbh

Morgan12 · 17/02/2021 07:55

Yeah I think I'm just a bit anxious about schools because my DS is going back. Really feeling like it's just a few weeks premature.

GintyMcGinty · 17/02/2021 08:02

I think she got the tone really wrong yesterday.

Whilst I get they can't lift restrictions yet - we need some hope. My staff team were completely miserable after her announcement yesterday.

She needs to find something to give us some bloody hope for the future.

I do worry as well that they've gone too far in the micromanaging of the country up here in Scotland.

Final rant I also think it's mad that's she's still planning for the election to go ahead in May.

Other parties can't campaign. She's on the tv everyday. Kids can't go to school. Nothings open but we can all go to polling stations. Hmmm.

blowinahoolie · 17/02/2021 08:07

I feel very optimistic we can all start mixing indoors with family and friends over summer. Just waiting patiently to hear🤞

RaspberryCoulis · 17/02/2021 08:09

Depends on how things play out at the ballot box in May, doesn't it? At the moment she's riding high on her (undeserved) reputation as Saint Nicola of Covid, keeping us all safe. Hmm

It'll be longer, stricter and more miserable than whatever England does. Guaranteed.

TiredUselessHopeless · 17/02/2021 08:15

Thank you for the replies.

I really hope things do pick up by summer and I totally agree that having an election in May is totally ludicrous when she’s been everywhere and on everything. (Although I believe the Salmond case will remove her halo)

It’s just so difficult to stay positive. While I understand she does what she has to do, I feel that there’s political agenda in some of this.

It’s all so depressing.

I work in non essential retail and I am worried sick about being closed so long. It feels hopeless

ceeveebee · 17/02/2021 08:23

I think she said that the roadmap would be announced next week? So hopefully will find out more then

rawalpindithelabrador · 17/02/2021 08:26

She's gone too far in her quest to be Jacinda Ardern.

You've only just noticed? EVERYTHING is about politics with her. Eyes on the independence prize. At all times. Show how different we are from the manky English. She doesn't even try to hide it.

randomsabreuse · 17/02/2021 08:30

I'm assuming the 3 week gap is to check that bringing kids back to school doesn't spike cases too quickly, which seems sensible to me. Much better to know what is working than open loads at once and have to guess which caused the spike in cases.

I'm heartily sick of being locked into East Dunbartonshire, opening more shops/attractions without reducing movement restrictions would be shit for people in smaller counties.

emmathedilemma · 17/02/2021 08:32

Probably until she's finished building the wall to keep the manky English out! Honestly, I hate the woman and I'm starting to feel like nothing is going to get us out of this situation. Numbers in some areas have dropped so much yet there's no sign of restrictions being eased and now yet another fecking "roadmap". I'm literally done with this now.

RaspberryCoulis · 17/02/2021 08:36

You're not alone, @emmathedilemma. Politicians have no idea. They are carrying on as normal, going to work, ignoring their own "stay at home" command to preach at us from their wee podiums, seeing their colleagues, getting their secure government salary, not having to deal with homeschooling and the rest of us.

Every time she stands there and says "I know how hard this is" I want to strangle the silly woman. She has literally NO IDEA.

RaspberryCoulis · 17/02/2021 08:37

I hear you. There are no "attractions" in East Dun to open. Just ignore the ridiculous "don't leave your county" rule.

Biscoff2020 · 17/02/2021 08:39

I don't think Scotland are ever planning to get back to pre-March 2020 normal. Even Level 0 (and this is with very low cases and little to no community transmission) of the 'covid protection levels' has a lot of restrictions including WFH.

blowinahoolie · 17/02/2021 09:32

"She doesn't even try to hide it."

She is very transparent about wanting an independent Scotland. What's wrong with that? Better to be clear about itConfused

No one necessarily has to support her though.

RaspberryCoulis · 17/02/2021 09:43

The lockdown briefings are supposed to be non-political. But she just can't help her wee sly digs at Westminster or making comments about how she would have done x ,y, or z but couldn't because her hands are tied by Boris.

blowinahoolie · 17/02/2021 09:49

RaspberryCoulis I get it, you're not Nicola Sturgeon's BFF😂

MrsPerfect12 · 17/02/2021 10:05

My thoughts are.
Mid March S4-5 return to school phased ie one week in 3 rotation. (Depend on school size)
Possible non essential retail if not here then mid April.
After Easter hols mid April S1-3 join in with the rotation.
Pubs open.
Summer will be as last summer, garden gathering meet one other family etc.
I can do that.
I don't know what Nicola could do better, I don't know that any other MSP could do better, it's very much a learn on the job situation and lessons will always be learned. She's doing her best IMO.

Yeah, that's why those English schools are going back before Scottish ones, gotta be more miserable, longer and stricter here in Scotland. Oh... wait.

Yes, you're right, she looks into the future, foresees what those "manky English" are going to do, and does it first. That ties in perfectly with your assertion that Scottish restrictions last longer and are stricter than in England.

Have you considered that maybe, just maybe, when Scottish restrictions usually are more in line with Wales and NI, it could be those "manky English" going against the grain?

DumplingsAndStew · 17/02/2021 10:20

What are you talking about? Schools are starting to return from Monday. How is that indicative of no sign of restrictions being eased?
