Anybody starting to feel ltwinges of the green eyed monster?
On the one hand I'm pleased that even more vulnerable people have suddenly been added the list, theres clearly a need for it, but secretly im a little bit disappointed that it now means it could be months before I get my get Get of jail free card.
I know it's not nice to feel this way but I can't help it.
I'd.never say anything irl.

Me! Although I don’t actually think I should be moved up the queue. I just cannot wait to have had the jab (and, even better, the second one).

likeamillpond · 16/02/2021 23:23

I've managed to come this far without catching covid.

Yep!

Decided I am going mad stuck at home and need to change.

EasterIssland · 16/02/2021 23:30

800k people have been added ... at the current speed of 300k average a day ... that means they would be extra 3 days to vaccinate this people

GlomOfNit · 16/02/2021 23:33

Thinking of getting your vaccines as a 'get out of jail' card is probably not very accurate, though. Smile The older people who were in the first groups haven't been told they're good to go out and party now, after all. It's a case of 'we're not safe until we're all safe' and we all have to hang on a bit after getting the jabs. Knowing you're very unlikely to get it and get really ill from it is a good thing, though. Smile

Redpenbluepen · 16/02/2021 23:35

What about the African variant?

ButtonMoonPie · 16/02/2021 23:38

No but I'm pregnant and wouldn't want to take it until I've had the baby so that influences how I feel.
I'm also pretty low risk (pregnancy aside) so wouldn't want to jump the queue and am not overly worried about catching covid

Ccwanker · 16/02/2021 23:41

I’ve had both of mine. It’s not made any difference to my life. Still have to follow all the same rules everyone else does, I don’t think we’ll end up with some two tier society of the vaxxed vs the in vaxxed

bumblenbean · 16/02/2021 23:42

Yeah I feel like that a fair bit. Envy is not an attractive thing so I hate feeling this way, but equally I’m so pleased the rollout is going well and the most vulnerable are largely protected 👍

PersonaNonGarter · 16/02/2021 23:44

Thinking of getting your vaccines as a 'get out of jail' card is probably not very accurate, though.

Isn’t this exactly what it is though? The vaccine will literally get us out from house arrest.

I’m in the under 50s tranche so by the time I get it everyone should definitely be getting out of jail.

Benhew · 16/02/2021 23:50

I think its quite a natural feeling, I was getting a bit like it so have stopped watching the updates so much. Hopefully we will all get the call at some point, I thought it would be sooner for me as I have asthma but it won't be now so just have to be patient. I hope they carry on down the age groups in the next phase personally, I do worry about family members in their later 40's looking at those risk tools.

Maybemay123 · 16/02/2021 23:50

Would you rather be fit and healthy and low priority or have a health condition that means you are on the priority list?
It's a postcode lottery (like most of our NHS care) dc and I are a priority but our gp has no vacancies as yet where as in another area we would have already been vaccinated - that's a very frustrating situation for many individuals who have to because of the very reason their on the priority list risk their health going for gp/hospital appointments or have not had the care they need in the last year. The majority of these people have had an even more limited life than most in the last year and when everything gets back to normal will still have a health condition which they live with the limitations of for the rest of their lives in the majority of cases.
So no I'm not envious of those that have already had it, yes I look forward to the day dc and I can have the vaccination and can worry slightly less about visiting the drs or hospital (although this has always been a worry due to immunosuppressive illness and drugs) and hopefully get the care we need and has been delayed.

FamilyOfAliens · 16/02/2021 23:53

Agree with @Maybemay123.

I’d much prefer to have to wait a few months than have to live with a lifelong health condition that puts me higher up the list.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 16/02/2021 23:54

No because it is scientifically fair to protect the most vulnerable first. I am way way down that list as apparently health privileged and not vulnerable so therefore I will patiently await my life saving vaccination until I am finally called up for my turn. I am super cautious anyway and always (single) masked plus potential vector proximity aware for a year already and long before the stupidity of anti masks and anti vaxxers etc.

SirVixofVixHall · 16/02/2021 23:55

I am feeling very relieved about the relatives and close friends who have been vaccinated, especially the ones who are most at risk . I have worried so much all year that we might lose one of these people that all I feel now is a lightening of that worry, and joy for them that they are protected. I suppose I also feel that the cumulative effect of so many people being protected from severe disease is very cheering.
I am looking forward to being vaccinated though ! Although also a bit scared.

FlameHairedRachel · 17/02/2021 00:00

Don’t feel envious, for me at least it’s certainly not a ‘get out of jail card’.

When I last went for my treatment i had documents to take home regarding the treatment I’m taking. One point on that information sheet stated - ‘it is also important that immunosuppressed individuals may not make a full antibody response and so should still follow advice to avoid exposure to Covid 19 unless they are otherwise advised by their consultant/gp’

Do even though I’ve had the first vaccine, I’m not out of the woods quite yet!

SpecialToffee · 17/02/2021 00:00

Me too, although it’s more for my DH (group 6, and hasn’t been called yet). Our surgery is prioritising group 6 by age and I’m concerned that he’ll be pushed down the list and our year 11 dc will be back at school before DH is protected.

I know I’m being selfish but I can’t help worrying 😩

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 17/02/2021 00:00

Had covid but in late 40s so should really get the jab etc

However don't feel envy at all to those already or about to be jabbed

Envy of other people getting done is definitely a thing for some people now though. You can see it in real life and on here a lot. I have been rather surprised by that.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 17/02/2021 00:15

PP makes a great analogy in that 800k people is less than three days worth of vaccinations at current rate, although BBC is reporting an additional 1.7m - that's still less than a week.

The vaccine shouldn't be seen as a get out of jail free card - you still have to act responsibly
Had covid (in a very symptomatic way, wouldn't wish it on anyone)
Had the vaccine at the end of last week.
Had yet another shielding letter today...Hmm

jennytheonionslayer · 17/02/2021 00:20

I'm under 50, don't consider myself particularly vulnerable but was invited to have it which I did.

It changes nothing, only 66% after three weeks, still could pass it around if I didn't keep up with the hygiene routine so carry on lockdown.

PersonaNonGarter · 17/02/2021 00:22

The vaccine shouldn't be seen as a get out of jail free card - you still have to act responsibly

I don’t really understand this. After I have had the flu jab, or my rabies shot, or any other vaccine, I don’t worry about ‘acting responsibly’. I just get on with my life.

Surely, after the 2weeks is up for most of the adult population, we can get on with life? If not what was the point?

QueenPaw · 17/02/2021 00:30

Ah don't be envious! I've had my first one, second one isn't until May and I still have to shield even if I had both doses Sad
I feel a tiny bit safer but it's not changed anything

SleepingStandingUp · 17/02/2021 00:35

If it was a lottery I'd get your jealousy but the reality lots of people aren't getting it for good reasons - surviving to old age, jobs they still have, they're having them for medical needs. DH and I have had our first one because of my son's medical needs.

And it's still illegal for me to do anything I want to do

Hardbackwriter · 17/02/2021 00:40

I don't have envy for myself but I do feel little twinges about other people's parents getting it - I didn't with my in-laws because they're a good decade older than my parents but my parents are on the cusp of an age group so I do feel slight envy when my friends whose parents are just a year or two older are getting it now, while it'll be quite a while for mine. I know it's not a fair or reasonable feeling, though - and my main feeling on hearing of anyone at all I know being vaccinated is relief and happiness that the rollout actually seems to be going so well.

Both for most other vaccines like rabies etc the virus isn’t circulating widely and isn’t able to infect a massive proportion of the population because some in the community usually have some immunity anyway.

Flu jabs start before flu season arrives so it’s not spreading like covid is right now when you get jabbed. Infections need to
drop before restrictions can be eased up and then hopefully vaccinations will help is with keeping infection rates lower.
