And go from 2.2 million to 3.9 million.

Breaking news...

StarCat2020 · 16/02/2021 17:49

Why on Earth didn’t they mention this yesterday at the non-event that was the press conference?
Exactly what I thought

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 16/02/2021 17:49

Oh heck. Ive got my vaccine this weekend (group 6) and was mentally thinking I'd 4feel a bit safer by the time schools go back. We've been semi shielding but had thought I would relax a bit a few weeks after the jab.

Hmmph · 16/02/2021 17:52

Hang on..

I just tried it again..

WITH asthma I get a score of 25
WITHOUT asthma I get a score of 28

The calculator thinks asthma makes me LESS AT RISK???

EasterIssland · 16/02/2021 17:56

@CurlyReds

Or do you think the fatties should just be left to die because they're not worthy? I don’t find it reasonable that people with autoimmune disease and other genuine conditions such as asthma, are prioritised below people who just ate too much food. It also seems silly that people who’ve broken a wrist or hip are prioritised because they might develop osteoporosis, but people who already have osteoporosis aren’t prioritised.
Have you actually checked what is in the list ? Because asthma is. And this is not what you think it’s fair or not. It’s what Oxford university who has been working on this for months and months thinks is fair.

I don’t think it’s fair that my in laws who keep breaking the law have had their vaccine whilst I’ll be one of the latest despite not having seen anyone for many months and having seeing my family for over a year. But if I catch it I’ll most likely don’t need hospitalisation. Someone whose bmi is 40 because xyz might need the bed or ventilator. Hence why Oxford think they deserve it sooner than me and I think that is fair. If Oxford doesn’t think your health condition is a problem for COVID then you’ll have to wait ...

So a long ago broken wrist is more of a risk than asthma??? Shock
Nanuki · 16/02/2021 18:04

Even if you have had both doses of the vaccine, you should continue to follow this shielding guidance as we continue to assess the impact of vaccination among all groups. The people you live with should continue to follow the public health rules and guidance as long as they are in place, regardless of whether you or they have received the vaccine.

From the shielding letter sent today - and the one that was sent last month had similar wording in.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 16/02/2021 18:04

My postcode bumped me up 2 points. My high bmi though bumped me up a lot.

Bit worried I'll have to shield just as I was thinking I would go into shops/meet for walks after the vaccine.

Well the lists are made on expert research on who is most likely to die of COVID not on fairness or personal opinion. Some people are overweight due to illness or hormone imbalance. Not every ate themselves to overweight
Nanuki · 16/02/2021 18:07

Without Asthma I am 68, With Asthma I am 66 too...

randomer · 16/02/2021 18:07

I am so weary, I feel my brain has shut down and I don't understand any of it anymore.

Hmmph · 16/02/2021 18:08

So a long ago broken wrist is more of a risk than asthma??? shock

Yes:

With asthma 25
Without asthma 28
With no asthma but a previously broken wrist 30

And more than that, the calculator thinks that asthma actually lowers my risk... erm wtf?!

GabsAlot · 16/02/2021 18:08

seems a bit late but maybe just to bump up the vac list

Nanuki · 16/02/2021 18:09

Seems more affluent areas of postcode are bumping it up (possibly due to less vaccine uptake)

GabsAlot · 16/02/2021 18:10

sorry if i missed it is this from today

EasterIssland · 16/02/2021 18:10

@Nanuki

it's more because it's more likely to catch it than those where they live quite far apart. in a block of towers it'll always more riskier than in the countryside
FuzzyPuffling · 16/02/2021 18:11

I've just done the calculator and got 69 (auto immune condition and CKD).
I believe I am Group 6.
I got my vaccination appointment this week in a splendid hurry from my GP. I wonder if they took this new information into account.

Nanuki · 16/02/2021 18:11

@EasterIssland Well I did it between very affluent area of London with massive houses (higher) and economically deprived area (lower).

My best mate has diabetes, RA, congenital cataracts and yes, is also obese. He's five years older than me.

To put it bluntly, if we both caught Covid tomorrow, I'd far rather he wasn't already using the one remaining ICU bed and ventilator if I needed it. Because if he ends up using one, he's going to be on it for a long time and will probably die in any case. If he has the vaccine before me, he's less likely to be there if I catch it again in the meantime.

In turn, he'd prefer his mother or grandmother isn't in the bed at the point where he needs it. Or anybody else's mother or grandmother, for that matter.

WumbenWimpundWoomud · 16/02/2021 18:14

Isn’t it predictable that the fat shamers turn up? All fatties deserve less because they can’t keep their mouths closed. Well who is to say those with autoimmune conditions didn’t cause them or could manage them better by changing their lifestyle? Should those who have bone fractures through taking up activities like horse riding or mountain climbing also go to the back of the queue because of their choices?

StarrIntheSky · 16/02/2021 18:14

@fizzyp0p

Great so I still have to go out to work daily group 6 (type 1 diabetes) and be pushed further down the list
It’s disgusting isn’t it Type 1 diabetes is even hugely affected by a mild cold I hate to think what covid would do I really feel for you I hope you get your jab soon x
QueenPaw · 16/02/2021 18:16

@CurlyReds in mid thirties with an autoimmune disorder (or 4) and I've had mine (CEV)

EasterIssland · 16/02/2021 18:16

@StarrIntheSky @fizzyp0p diabetes1 is on the list

madroid · 16/02/2021 18:18

Oh the implicit (and @CurlyReds explicit) prejudice in the shielding list update news.

Out of all the conditions that now get people on the list weight is cited in every report I've read and heard.

Please people, can we all accept weight is just one of many 'self-inflicted' health problems: drinking, smoking, risky sports, inactivity, unprotected sex, etc

Nanuki · 16/02/2021 18:20

drinking, smoking, risky sports, inactivity, unprotected sex, etc

But don't really lead to covid complications right now. They all get blamed for other illnesses when they have them, cancer, HIV, broken bones etc.

User7458 · 16/02/2021 18:20

@Gonegrey31

I scored 69, BMI is 21. Aged 64 though with heart disease. Not sure what this means ?
I'm 63, scored 64, no known underlying illness, BMI 22.1, I think our ages gave us a higher score. Your heart disease appears to have added just a bit. My postcode area is fairly average I think
