And go from 2.2 million to 3.9 million.

@AnniversaryScaresMe have you got any help for your mental health?

If you feel this badly you both need and truly deserve help.

Don't let anyone else make you feel lesser for feeling the way you do - but if you would rather not be here than the way you feel, you do truly deserve to be helped for that and I wonder if you are being?

LemonSherbetFancies · 17/02/2021 13:12

Older people are now having to work for longer so I suspect there will be a lot of workers who have to shield especially as more people have been added. Ok if you can work from home, not if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of being unemployed. Who would take on a shielding person right now or even after? Too much of a risk surely. I really feel for people in this position.

@TryingNotToPanicOverCovid

Our school has sent an email to [arents in the trust praising the teachers (rightly) and saying how even the cv and ecv chose (or should it be "chose"?!) to come into work....
I find that a bit weird. I’m not usually party to any staff health information. If they’ve let people who are CEV work face to face during the ‘shielding’ periods I’m not sure I’d see that as a positive. CV don’t get any option according to the rules
FuzzyPuffling · 17/02/2021 13:17

And you clearly have no idea how much some people have suffered due to lockdown, especially the first one.
We were unable to meet our basic needs of human contact. I would rather be dead than live with what covid has done to my life and mental health.

I've been shielding. I know.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 17/02/2021 13:18

Looking back I think it might have been the January 4th date / December she may have been referring to this particular time. But its not the first time she's said it. It certainly struck me as odd. Its been an amazing school in terms of provision in lockdown and great for my children, but I'm not sure I'd want to work there...

"I want to reassure you that my staff have been truly exceptional in the past few days and weeks over this pandemic... Even those employees
who fall into the high-risk health categories have put aside any concerns for their own well-being and made it into school
each day. I cannot tell you how proud ..."

OpheliasCrayon · 17/02/2021 13:18

@BungleandGeorge as someone who received the letter and have chucked the lot in the bin (and have friends with the same conditions as me who have done the same ) I think it is absolutely everyone's right to choose.
It's my body and my health and I will NOT have the gvmt, or anyone else for that matter decide what risks I wish to take or not take.

I think the second part of that message is quite irresponsible of the school. They shouldn't have been encouraging their vulnerable staff to be working in classrooms, especially their CEV staff. What kind of message does that send?!

I'd be tempted to want to reply and suggest school should have been doing more to protect their vulnerable staff.

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 17/02/2021 13:23

I'm wondering now if it wasn't during actual lockdown - but it stuck out as yes it does read as though they didn't have much choice.

BungleandGeorge · 17/02/2021 13:28

I agree with you. Perhaps it’s the terminology as you would remain CEV I guess but would not be in the shielding group (which I would say is those who want to shield). I think the health conditions of teachers are none of my business whatsoever though. School should still do risk assessments to mitigate risk.
I’d be concerned about the tone of that letter

Interesting way of trying to cover for the bullying of their disabled/chronically sick employees. 'It's not our fault you got Covid, you CHOSE to come in'.
TheSultanofPingu · 17/02/2021 13:35

Sounds like my job's going to be fun.
I clean in a school and according to these new rules my two colleagues and the caretaker may now be shielding. Not sure how it's going to work tbh but hey ho.

OpheliasCrayon · 17/02/2021 13:39

@BungleandGeorge I agree as per that letter

It should not be something to be praised for that you didn't shield. That's wrong as it implies that had they chosen to that would have been bad.

I haven't shielded and that's my business but I don't think that anyone is lesser than me / silly / wrong for choosing to sheild when I haven't ...

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 17/02/2021 13:41

Yep. I really don't see that putting aside health concerns should be praised and thought it a very odd letter.

SiliconHeaven · 17/02/2021 17:30

I’ve not read the whole thread to see if someone else has posted the threashold, apologies if I’m repeating. It’s 2% so only those with a score of 98 or more will be added to the CEV list.
I got 84

godmum56 · 17/02/2021 17:44

not sure if its been mentioned but people who work and are officially advised to shield can claim statutory sick pay if they do choose to shield and have also got more protection of their employment.

Their algorithm is clearly lacking many people that are asthmatic never received that letter. And it also depends on GPS updating patients files and they often just don’t or the person may not have been to see them for years.

iwishiwasatcentralperk · 17/02/2021 17:52

I suffer with diabetes and obesity and I received my appointment for the vaccine this morning (its in 11 days), but have not received a shielding letter.

Boris did say on Monday night that anyone with an underlying condition would be vaccinated within 3 weeks, so we got bumped up the queue pretty fast, as I was Band 6 previously.

Teachertired92 · 17/02/2021 17:53

I don’t think this is necessarily because of the shielding aspect, but because it gives the government the leniency to prioritise these people for the vaccinations

Would everyone who was added already have heard by now?
Anyone know?

CavernousScream · 17/02/2021 17:59

@Blackhawkdown2020 You realise they’re asking you to shield for your own benefit? They don’t think you’ll infect other people more, they think you’re more likely to get very sick or die and warning you so you can decide whether to take further preventative steps.

Nanuki · 17/02/2021 17:59

@iwishiwasatcentralperk many places are already vaccinating band 6 though (which you would have been in) so it doesn't mean you are going to be advised to shield because you have been offered a vaccine.

Lulu49 · 17/02/2021 17:59

Bonsa, I just accidently pm you 😄

People who are very obese may be very well known to their doctor as they may have other health issues associated with their weight

Nanuki · 17/02/2021 17:59

@FascinatingCarrot it can take a couple of days - and depends if your GP has your email address and on the post in your local area too.
