Irritating Covid Phrases

Now we’re about a year into the pandemic, we’re in a good position to assess what new phrases and words are the most irritating.

I’ll start with the obvious ones - “Covidiot” and “New Normal”. However, I also hate the “Stay safe” at the end of emails (suspect that’s just me).

OP posts:

I can't get worked up about any of those

Donoteatthekittens · 14/02/2021 12:23

“Don’t you know there’s a GLOBAL pandemic?”

BananaPop2020 · 14/02/2021 12:25

Supermarkets and the “helping feed the nation” slogan. Worst of all though is the constant use of “jabs in arms” by the Government. It’s just so unnecessary to say it.

PuppyMonkey · 14/02/2021 12:27

I wouldn't care if I never saw the phrase "shield the vulnerable and let the rest of us get on with our lives" ever again TBF.

Deliaskis · 14/02/2021 12:29

Well obviously the words 'socially-distanced' applied unnecessarily to non COVID related statements. I mean now DD is 9 I'm delighted that every wee I have is now socially distanced, bit there's no need to say so.

PracticingPerson · 14/02/2021 12:32

The thing I find most irritating is people who say I'm 'panicking' or 'terrified' if I mention that covid could possibly cause any problems for anyone ever.

I'm not terrified, I've had it and was fine thanks.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 14/02/2021 12:33

'Keeping everyone safe'

OliveTree75 · 14/02/2021 12:37

Novel virus shudder

Coasterfan · 14/02/2021 12:37

Bubble, bubbled, bubbling up any variations of that. I despise it!!

SeldomFollowedIt · 14/02/2021 12:39

The stay safe one was particularly annoying when I was at work in the thick of it. How they expected me to stay safe I don’t know. I knew they meant well but it irritated me no end.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/02/2021 12:39

On their knees. Everything is on its knees. What does it even mean?

Popping bubbles and bursting bubbles.

HashtagAnonyMouse · 14/02/2021 12:40

"Stay Safe" Hmm

BettyOBarley · 14/02/2021 12:40

When people call it Coh-vid

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/02/2021 12:40

Covidiot. Fucking hate it.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 14/02/2021 12:41

#staythefuckhome has easily got to be the worst!! My friend continually spouts that one on Facebook, not had to work for over a year as she was furloughed at 3 months pregnant and is now on maternity, and as far as I can tell barely goes out for a walk. Apparently people who do anything else ‘just don’t listen’ and ‘are the reason we are in this mess’.

I feel like typing I CAN’T STAY THE FUCK HOME YOU PATRONISING TWAT SOME OF US HAVE HAD TO CONTINUE TO TRAVEL TO WORK THROUGHOUT.

ReachedTheEndofCake · 14/02/2021 12:43

“These unprecedented times”

ColdBrightClearMorning · 14/02/2021 12:46

The term ‘mixing’, often said with a derisory tone. The way normal human social contact has been rebranded as ‘mixing’, like it’s an optional thing and those who feel the need to do it are unreasonable and selfish. Fucking hate ‘mixing’.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 14/02/2021 12:49

Stay the fuck at home.
Covidiot.
Key worker.
Frontline. I saw frontline used in a post with a capital F to really drive the point home 🙄
GLOBAL pandemic.
The two S words that make me want to put my head through a window, fucking safe and fucking selfish!

dividedwefall · 14/02/2021 12:50

'deadly virus'
'social distancing'
'mask up'
'socially distanced'
'zoom call'
'home school'

dividedwefall · 14/02/2021 12:51

Yes, this!! Language that is making being a normal human being a dirty, undesirable and scary thing.

I also hate the “Stay safe” at the end of emails (suspect that’s just me).

It isn't just you.

It's not a phrase per se, but at work our "Mental Health First Aiders" have come into their own and send out regular "uplifting" emails full of the most appallingly trite drivel. I have taken to deleting them on sight because reading them makes me want to puke / strangle them! I'm sure they think they are helping, but nobody wants to tell them that they are simply annoying everyone with their "things that make us glad to be alive" and "isn't the world a beautiful place" messages - all of which end with Stay Safe!!!!

The most perverse thing is that one of my staff writing these trite messages as a Mental Health First Aider, I had to return to the office last July because he couldn't cope with working from home, and his mental health is the worst of any of my staff! I've tried suggesting that is he didn't keep trying to prove that he was coping, he might cope better. It's bad enough getting these things, I can't imagine trying to write one!

ifitpleasesandsparkles · 14/02/2021 12:54

Frontline.

It's pathetic. People are lacking excitement in their lives so they turn to theatrics to increase the drama.

Twomillionvaccines · 14/02/2021 12:56

All of them, just all of them

TwirpingBird · 14/02/2021 12:56

Any phrase that includes the word 'selfish'.

Also, 'the greater good' just makes me roll my eyes.

OpheliasCrayon · 14/02/2021 12:59
