Irritating Covid Phrases

Now we’re about a year into the pandemic, we’re in a good position to assess what new phrases and words are the most irritating.

I’ll start with the obvious ones - “Covidiot” and “New Normal”. However, I also hate the “Stay safe” at the end of emails (suspect that’s just me).

Moondust001

It is too ear to say whether Long covid is the same as post viral syndrome.

Please see this national NIHR-funded study called PHOSP (Post HOSPital Covid).

www.leicesterbrc.nihr.ac.uk/themes/respiratory/research/phosp-covid/

I believe there is also going to be (or maybe already launched) an equivalent study for those who didn’t require hospitalisation.

Shortening coronavirus to corona. Corona is a drink. Just call it covid or coronavirus.

SomewhereUpMyArse · 14/02/2021 14:19

Yy to long phone system messages. They're everywhere! Even prior to covid it used to take two minutes to get through to the main menu due to people banging on about their fucking websites and what's on them as though you'd never thought about looking there yourself, perhaps under the impression that the organisation in question communicated by carrier pigeon and quill pen written screeds pinned to billboards outside pubs. But now every fucker wants to waste even more of your time by giving excuses for how much of your time they're about to waste. Fuck off.

"Can you provide a link/or evidence to support your statement " Angry really grinds my gears

3littlewords · 14/02/2021 14:21

@freezedriedromance

Shortening coronavirus to corona. Corona is a drink. Just call it covid or coronavirus.
Or "the rona" as its often called on SM
DJattheendoftheworld · 14/02/2021 14:23

"Stay safe". Thank you for saying that. I was planning to go out licking door handles later, but will now reconsider.

everythingthelighttouches · 14/02/2021 14:23

“ Shortening coronavirus to corona.”

Yes!!!!

Or worse (and including the unnecessary use of “the”)

“The ‘rona”

EnvyEnvyEnvy {not envy}

BeautifulStar · 14/02/2021 14:24

The “look them in the eyes” advert gives me the rage.

  • Due to Covid we can't.... [whatever]" The long, meaningless message on the doctor's surgery answerphone about CV19 which no one listens to.*

I just press 1 when the 5 minute message starts (which amounts to WHY ARE YOU PHONING US!!!), it bypasses the message.

SomewhereUpMyArse · 14/02/2021 14:25

The key worker/wfh divide is real.

Yeah it is. Especially when you look at death and infection rates by occupation. And again when you look at the wages for those occupations.

Lanzo · 14/02/2021 14:27

@bumblenbean

‘Thrown under the bus’. Irrationally gives me the rage every time I see it
I agree! ‘Thrown under a bus’ really irritates me. Especially as so many people say ‘literally thrown under a bus’ when they clearly haven’t actually been chucked under a number 11.
everythingthelighttouches · 14/02/2021 14:30

“It’s just a flu”

Seen widely on social media.

In addition to the obvious- it’s not, the use of “a” instead of “the” which must be a language-related issue, irrationally irritates me!

GoldenPenPot · 14/02/2021 14:31

The other one for me is the number of people falling under a bus.

“So if someone tests positive and falls under a bus within 28 days, that goes down as a covid death?”

New normal

If everyone follows the rules this will be over sooner

Covidiot

All you're being asked to do is stay on the sofa and watch Netflix Angry

No words but I hate that fucking guilt shaming advert about “looking them in the eyes” how the government have the gall to run with that is beyond me dont get me started on that shitty ad. I may have had a rant about it yesterday Blush

spaghoops · 14/02/2021 14:37

I've seen a few people on here 'shorten' Chris Whitty's name to 'Chris Whitts'. Just why...it's the same number of letters.

I also hate 'Stay the Fuck at home" and for some reason when they drop the at to make it "Stay the Fuck Home". I've clearly got too much time on my hands to get irritated by this.

I also hate being reminded that there is a pandemic when receiving shit customer service or a non-response to a request. It's wearing thin.

Glitterblue · 14/02/2021 14:38

Everything to do with bubbles, but particularly "bubbled up with/bubbling up with" - that just sounds so ridiculous and I've no idea why people have started saying it. I see a lot of it on here. Also bubbles bursting, and "mask up/PPE up".

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 14/02/2021 14:40

Exponential and r-number. Used in every other sentence by people who had no idea they even existed 12 months ago.

Keyworker. Especially when used to convey superiority of said worker.

I feel slightly better for getting that off my chest. Thank you 😁

BamboozledandBefuddled · 14/02/2021 14:40

'Protect the NHS'
'Our' NHS - it doesn't seem to be 'mine' as I'm not able to use it
Johnson waffling on about 'the government putting it's arma around the people'. The only possible response is to snarl 'Two metres, fuckwit'.
'NHS Angels'. (Or, 'NHS Angles' if you're reading Facebook.)

BamboozledandBefuddled · 14/02/2021 14:41

*arms, not arma. Not sure what arma are but I don't want Johnson putting his anywhere near me!

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 14/02/2021 14:41

All the necessary but tone deaf UK government health campaign messages.

Perhaps without them we may not still have some resemblance of a NHS "free" at point of use health insurance medical care.

Thank you Covidiots for the new Kent and future eg Bristol etc UK variants - just what the doctor ordered - not!

Lanzo · 14/02/2021 14:49

The reminders that ‘schools haven’t ever closed’.

Topseyt · 14/02/2021 14:54

"Stay safe" and "for the greater good" both just make me want to rugby tackle the speaker to the ground as they are so sanctimonious.

If I never heard either phrase again it would be too soon.

Same with Covidiot and socially distanced.

Topseyt · 14/02/2021 14:57

"Due to Covid" is also highly irritating. it usually prefaces some piece of twattery, made up rule or excuse for poor or non-existent customer service.
