I don’t have anyone to talk to about this in RL. A friend has just told me that her ex BIL tested positive for Covid back in December. He was in South Africa. He then got on a plane the next day and flew to the UK. This was before you needed a negative PCR test to enter the country. He came here to live permanently. He was starting a new job and didn’t want to postpone his start date. WTAF. What do I do with this information? What if he brought the SA variant here and spread it? My head is spinning. Why the hell did the government wait so long to enforce PCR tests before flying?! I feel nothing to report this guy but can I even do that? If I can then who do I call?

What exactly are you going to report?

InterfectoremVulpes · 09/02/2021 08:02

And more importantly why? What are you wanting/expecting to happen?

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 09/02/2021 08:03

i am sure he is not the only rule breaker op.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 09/02/2021 08:04

why did he have a test that he ignored?

Monty27 · 09/02/2021 08:05

Take a chill pill OP
How many other people have flown around the world and into UK now?
It's not that simple.
Or is it? If only.

DinosaurDiana · 09/02/2021 08:07

There is nothing for you report, what would anyone do with that information ?
I doubt he was the only one of hundreds on that plane that had Covid.
Let it go.

Goodbye2020Helllo2021 · 09/02/2021 08:08

He behaved irresponsibly obviously.
But, OP, what are you planning on doing OP? Who would you ‘report’ this to and why?
He was not the only one on the plane, his flight was not the only flight. The Government’s failure to stop international travel is to blame and has allowed people to do as they please. Your ignorant exBIL included.

userxx · 09/02/2021 08:09

I'm thinking the death penalty in this case.

Might have been for someone.

CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 08:12

I don’t know this guy personally. I’ve never met him. I just needed to get this off my chest, it seems so morally wrong.

@alpenguin exactly!

😅 Oh Jesus. Really?! Missed that!
MyVikingLife · 09/02/2021 08:14

Oh please, the UK has so many covid cases what’s the point? So many people break rules anyway.

lovelemoncurd · 09/02/2021 08:19

Calm down. For all you know your friend might hate him and be telling you a load of porkies!

islockdownoveryet · 09/02/2021 08:20

I agree it’s wrong but he won’t be the only one who know or didn’t know they had the virus and flew into the country that is why we are where we are . Be angry with the government for this and this could of been prevented if measures were in place . Only from next week have you got to quarantine almost a year into this .
The government like to blame us for spreading it but it’s things like this that have done that .

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/02/2021 08:20

Bit late to do anything now.

CocoMelon21 · 09/02/2021 08:25

@islockdownoveryet you’re right. It’s shocking. I don’t understand why they didn’t make people provide a negative test result before flying from the start. It is such a simple but effective measure to have in place.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 09/02/2021 08:31

months ago there was a man who went back to Belgium or Germany with the virus, taking public transport, he was found, dead in his flat

reformedcharacters · 09/02/2021 08:39

I know somebody that knew they had the virus when they were in Turkey over the summer so double masked and got on the plane back home as they didn’t want to be stuck there.

I also remember seeing a reporter last year interview a traveller from China when this first started who admitted he knew he was unwell but took paracetamol to get past temp checks and get on a flight. It’s not uncommon.

DinosaurDigestive · 09/02/2021 09:06

This is exactly why I would not be wanting to travel on a plane at all! Right from the very beginning, and before, people will have been getting infected this way. Sod that. For a mix of reasons lots of people won't be honest and admit they're not well etc etc. Flights should have been looked into and severely limited at the very start... but too late to think about that now...

afternooncuppa · 09/02/2021 12:07

I'd get on to MI5 if I were you.

RhubarbAndRoses · 09/02/2021 12:53

@afternooncuppa hilarious 🙄 Have you been following the news about the SA variant? It’s a problem. It’s here because of twats like this and the twats who run this country.

OliveTree75 · 09/02/2021 12:57

@afternooncuppa

I'd get on to MI5 if I were you.
Without delay
Beyondfedupnow · 09/02/2021 13:42

What do you do with this information? Nothing, what can you do and I’m not being obtuse. I have a feeling the SA variant is quietly bubbling away, once again the government haven’t acted in time.
