Yay for 12 million!

TeaInTheGarden · 07/02/2021 16:50

Testing is sky high too. So it’s fab we are still seeing dropping cases.

TheChineseChicken · 07/02/2021 16:59

Great cases and mortality figures today. I’ve been feeling quite negative so haven’t posted today but this is good news at least

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 07/02/2021 17:01

Sorry about my flounce last thread.
Great figures today, aren’t they?

thatgingergirl · 07/02/2021 17:16

Really good figures today!
What I take from restrictions on large gatherings is that I might get to see headline bands at smaller venues! You know - ones where you get a seat and you don't need a screen!
More good news - DH has got the wood and coal in and I have opened a bottle of Chilean Merlot.

@sailorrooscout on Twitter has some good info today.

Jan069 · 07/02/2021 17:45

I don't usually post here but just wanted to share that my 85 year old aunt caught covid while in hospital for a different condition. She didn't get any symptoms and was surprised to test positive. She's now back at home but has to wait a month before she can get vaccinated.

Boredsillyathome · 07/02/2021 18:21

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum wow those are amazing figures, starting to feel so optimistic for the future seeing those!

FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2021 18:39

Hello Countess and welcome back. Good to see you.
So much cheeriness today.
DH has a very slight headache and a very slightly sore arm from his vaccine. So far that's it. None of this "couldn't get out of bed for a week and thought I was going to die" nonsense. No siree!
( I shall see what tomorrow brings)

Cheermonger · 07/02/2021 18:49

I bloody love this thread!

Glad he is doing well. Must be an old git GrinIt seems to be the younger ones moaning about side effects.
whataballbag · 07/02/2021 19:29

Place marking!

FuzzyPuffling · 07/02/2021 19:34

truely he's 55 (a youngster to me!) but had a whole new immune system four years ago, which affects his reaction to stuff.

As an aside, he had to have ALL his childhood vaccinations again, post transplant. Every single one from start to finish!

Blerg · 07/02/2021 20:14

Hi everyone checking in. Great to hear the personal stories and the stats.

I am having a wobble about the SA variant and the AstraZeneca jab. I can’t quite get from the coverage if it’s useless against the variant (hence SA have stopped using this vaccine) or it’s a case of you can still get ill but mildly.

Also, my 77 yr old Mum still hasn’t heard. Suffolk!

Blerg · 07/02/2021 20:16

@FuzzyPuffling That’s fascinating. I would never have thought of the need to redo it all. Was it harder as an adult?

chri55ie · 07/02/2021 20:43

I’ve just been doing some reading in this. I will caveat this bug saying I am no expert by any stretch of the imagination.

There are some doubts on how useful the study was. Very small grp (2000 people- 1000 in vaccine grp and 1000 in placebo). Only 4 weeks between doses when we know vaccine more effective if there is 12 weeks between doses. CI interval of 95% -50 to 60% again no expert but that is apparently nonsense. J and J vaccine which is a similar vaccine to Oxford showed it worked against the SA variant in that it prevented severe disease.

If I remember anything else will post further!
