NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Not good news but can someone reassure me 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Basically my boss tested positive 15 days ago, as a close contact I self isolated for the time requested by the app - had no symptoms so left isolation. Wednesday I got a nasty sinusy headache but no other symptoms, GP told me to test as a precaution and lo and behold I’m positive.

BUT my mum is CEV and I am her support bubble, I do her shopping and cleaning and help with medication. She has now tested positive too and I’m scared, clearly I gave it to her unknowingly 😭😭 I did everything right and followed all the rules. Please tell me she’ll be ok 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

There was a thread very recently where lots of higher risk people or people with higher risk relatives were talking about how they’d had it and been absolutely fine.

Even in higher risk groups the vast majority of people recover well.

It certainly sounds like you did everything you could. Flowers

@starfish88

I did wonder how the 1 vaccine vs fully vaccinated thing works with things like the Mmr. DS got the 1st one as normal but was delayed for his 2nd because of covid but I still assumed he was sufficiently protected. If it hadn't been for covid we would have traveled internationally during that time and he would have been in nursery exposed to all the other little vectors. I wonder what his protection from those diseases was like? I assume good because when I was a kid I missed my 2nd mmr because we went on holiday and my mum forgot to catch me up. I finally got the booster when there was a mumps outbreak at uni. Didn't catch any of those diseases but I suppose low community levels helped then.
The low community levels help a lot. I didn't have my MMR jab as a child. I was due to have it in the 90s right around the time of the Andrew Wakefield/autism controversy, so my parents decided against it as, I expect, did many others. I dont know anyone who had measles, mumps or rubella. I eventually had the jab when I was 18.

Just checking in!

Frazzled2207 · 07/02/2021 09:54

@Iamclearlyamug
Oh no poor you. She’s overwhelmingly likely to be fine- does she have symptoms yet?

Level75 · 07/02/2021 12:16

I wasn't vaccinated as doctors (wrongly) thought I was allergic to eggs and I think the vaccines contained traces of egg (this was 70s).

I caught everything - measles, mumps, rubella, scarlet fever, chickenpox.

They were nasty, especially measles. I'm very pro vaccination now and pay to have DD vaccinated where it's not covered by the NHS.

Brunt0n · 07/02/2021 12:18

Parking here again to ride this out!

Iamclearlyamug · 07/02/2021 13:07

@Frazzled2207 no she feels totally normal at the moment, but I didn’t get symptoms for over 2 weeks after contact, and still didn’t get any of the ‘main’ symptoms (hence being out of isolation and not realising 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️) so maybe it’s not shown itself yet? I just feel so guilty 😭😭 she has rheumatoid arthritis and takes a cocktail of medication each day, although wasn’t told to shield at any point

@ChocOrange1

Missed the end of the last one so sorry if this has been shown already. Vaccine percentages weighted by mortality rate.
Sorry to be a pain but could you post that again or link to it. I can't see the writing clear enough to read. Thanks ❤
Worried1305 · 07/02/2021 14:21

Hello all, thanks for the thread, I've been lurking for a while but not posted yet. I SO appreciate all the good news!

Don't think anyone has posted this yet - it's an interview with Kate Bingham on the success of the UK vaccine strategy.

My favourite bit is this:
"“I wouldn't believe everything you read in The Guardian, there's very little that they've written that is correct."

Made me giggle! Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 07/02/2021 14:27

Worried1305 Hello

Thank you for posting that I shall have a little read later

I know she is obviously Tory and I shouldn't like her but between the sucess of vaccine purchases and her bog snorkeling activities I can't help it

Good news Part 9
alreadytaken · 07/02/2021 14:30

An additional 458,919 vaccinations have been reported over the past 24 hours in England.

An overall total of 10,761,539 in England.

Frazzled2207 · 07/02/2021 14:32

Fab it should be well over half a million in UK

alreadytaken · 07/02/2021 14:34

Iamclearlyamug Has your mum been taking vitamin D pills this winter and if not can you get her some a lot stronger than the Dept Health recommendation. It may help. If you have an oximeter monitor her oxygen levels frequently. Most people do recover from covid and as rates are dropping there will be a hospital bed if she needs one.

Hopefully as you dont have major symptoms you were only exposed to and able to transmit a low viral load.

alreadytaken · 07/02/2021 14:35

More good news - AZ expect to have tweaked their vaccine to cope better with the south african variant before winter. twitter.com/bbcpolitics/status/1358362139883433986?s=21

alreadytaken · 07/02/2021 14:37

Scotland vac figures are a record 52,839 1st jabs! Wales dont report at weekends.

tobee · 07/02/2021 14:57

Another bit about vaccine numbers:-

Checking in for sanity! The people who would like to live like this forever really confuse me.

@tobee that’s an amazing achievement
