NB Please don’t take this too seriously- it depends what vaccine delivery speed and uptake you estimate so it’s not written in stone.

Inastatus · 14/02/2021 10:02

Gah - must sort out school shoes!. DS’s feet have definitely grown and I can’t send him back in wellies!

OrangeBananaFish · 14/02/2021 10:06

Sorry pressed post by accident. Thats why I dont like being on my phone and much prefer a laptop.

Anyway.

Ugh no rule if 6. I want to meet in a group to run. I also want to take DD2 to meet her best friend. I felt like I was getting to know her mum last year too.

Sorry I dont mean to sound selfish, but I was kind of hoping that allowing schools to go back indoors then the outdoor rule of 6 would happen. Oh well we are getting there. February seems to be dragging.

Sorry if it's a bit gloomy, think I need some fresh air. Will post more positively in the future.

In good news it's going to get warmer this week. Yey.

carolinesbaby · 14/02/2021 10:21

Also - and I am aware that I sound like I'm picking the bad bits out - where it says "meeting one other person for golf or tennis" does that mean that kids riding lessons are still banned? Where do we stand on kids swimming lessons?

Frazzled2207 · 14/02/2021 10:26

I think they will let “outdoor hospitality” open in April or may. But that doesn’t help places that don’t have outdoor space. Round here (northern England) very few places do and if they do they’re very small. Some pubs have been very creative and turned car parks into beer gardens. Hopefully there will be more of that.

NeedingCoffee · 14/02/2021 10:26

Last time there were different rules for businesses that could demonstrate they were covid secure. So while the public were only allowed to meet up in a group of 6 outside, the company organising an activity we did was allowed up to 30 in a group. Just one example, but don’t give up on things like riding lessons; the governing bodies will be lobbying hard to have their mitigations signed off and may well be able to operate a bit earlier.

Agree eg for a long time “organised sport” was allowed - eg swimming lessons in small groups rather than a free for all in the pool (not sure that was ever allowed round here actually). I don’t think indoor sport will be particularly soon but will be sooner than other things.
carolinesbaby · 14/02/2021 10:36

I really really hope Riding is allowed. It's pretty much the only thing that kept Dd going last year, and to see her collapse into sons when I had to tell her the stable was closed again after new year broke my heart.
To be honest I can't think of a more Covid - secure hobby anyway! It can't be any worse than Golf 🙄

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/02/2021 10:44

I’m not going to even think about it till they announce it properly, too much room for backtracking but also more hopefully for nice surprises as long as daily figures continue to go well.

ACovidofWitches · 14/02/2021 11:25

@Level75

OK I've just done some really crude calculations. I've taken 25% off the figures for 3 weeks. Current rate of decrease is about 27-27%. That give the following on 8 March: 5, 475 average cases per day 261 deaths 717 hospitalisations.

Hopefully it'll actually be lower than that as vaccinations kick in.

I giggled at the rate of decrease being about 27-27%. That's quite a wide margin, now Wink

I think it's could definitely speed up. I think it may well hit somewhere between, oh I don't know, 35-35% Grin (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Actually, I think 30-40% decrease over the course of a week might be possible in 3 weeks time. It's got to snowball, we have vaccinated so many people.

There was a DAFFODIL Daffodil out this morning. Very exciting, especially considering it is freezing here. Four weeks time and we will feel so different. I can see people running out of the ability to cope all over the place and I know this is going to help so much.

FourTeaFallOut · 14/02/2021 11:31

Everything is moving in the right direction. Stuck my head above the Good News parapet again and wish I hadn't. It's like a different world over here.

Looking forward to seeing the vaccine figures today. Usually Sunday is the heavy hitter so🤞for another good one.

Inastatus · 14/02/2021 12:13

@FourTeaFallOut - me too! Just looked at the ‘why can’t all schools open at the same time post‘ and I felt the blanket of doom wrapping around me 🙁

FourTeaFallOut · 14/02/2021 12:24

I guess we won't know the finer points of the plan till the 22nd but until then they can keep the blanket of doom and I'll keep the picnic blanket of hope and good company warm over here.

I've seen posters complaining that children are going to school and they can't see their friend. I mean, come on. Children need to be back in school, who could begrudge them. It's only the foundation of everything for them. Maybe it's occasionally a bitching picnic blanket? 😬 No one's perfect, after all.

Inastatus · 14/02/2021 12:26

😅 ‘a bitching picnic blanket’

Level75 · 14/02/2021 12:27

Smile @ACovidofWitches. I meant 26-27%. My crappy calcs are, I think, conservative but still give some cracking low figures for when I'm pretty confident schools will reopen.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/02/2021 12:27

‘ the picnic blanket of hope and good company’

Absolutely love that, can we have it for the next thread title please?

FourTeaFallOut · 14/02/2021 12:30

Yes, no problem, just so long as I'm not the op. The only reason I think some of my sharper comments haven't jettisoned me from MN is because they aren't highlighted on the page.

sometimesamazinggrace · 14/02/2021 12:44

Any idea when the "no driving long distances to go on walks" will be lifted? I have a friend I would very much like to resume socially-distanced walks with but he's 20 miles away so would have to drive to get here and sit on a bench with me!

FebFrosting · 14/02/2021 12:51

I would like to drive 5 miles just to go to larger open areas but am afraid to do that, so hopefully they will be very clear on 22/2 in England.

1990s · 14/02/2021 12:58

Had a doomy phone call with friend yesterday. They actually said “it’s just not getting any better at all” with reference to cases. Makes me worried that I’ve gone mad!

Looked at the black ski run graphs a bit and reassured myself that I am not currently mad.

JemimaPyjamas · 14/02/2021 12:59

Can I confess something? I wouldn't on the other threads as I'd get ripped to shreds, but I am surely not the only one thinking like this.

I am due to have my vaccine on Wednesday, and in a few weeks time I strongly suspect that I shall be feeling more and more laid back about the whole social distancing thing. Particularly, well mainly, with people I know who have also had the vaccine.

The news so far on the SA variant and transmissibility really upset me as it was looking so promising but with other variants are looking far better. Plus, if none of us can get particularly ill it's more about about calculated risks, is it not? It doesn't mean I'll be snogging strangers in the street or refusing to wear a mask but on a much smaller scale I think things will thaw out.

We are all so desperate to try and grasp some sort of normality back!! How are the others who have had their vaccines feeling?

JemimaPyjamas · 14/02/2021 13:02

@1990s I am avoiding catching up with certain friends for this exact reason. There is plenty of positivity out there, and links here are usually backed up with reputable sources.

Plus, this situation cannot stay how it is indefinitely, especially not with the rate the vaccine is being rolled out and also all the advances and efforts in treatments too.

FuzzyPuffling · 14/02/2021 13:03

I'm desperate to get my vaccine..
On March 10th it will be a year since we went into hiding. I'd like to see my family and friends again. I'd like to go into a shop. I'd like to go to the beach.
But it looks like Surrey ( and possibly other areas) have nicked all the bloody vaccines so they are on to their over 50s now.
HOW IS THAT SODDING FAIR?

How can I learn to be more patient?

JemimaPyjamas · 14/02/2021 13:06

@FuzzyPuffling I am getting frustrated on your behalf!

FuzzyPuffling · 14/02/2021 13:13

I'm like a two year old, stamping my feet and shouting! 😁
