[quote TeaInTheGarden]Loved this article, particularly it’s reference to doom mongers!

Love this!

Ken Bruce is having his jab later today! Grin

Personally I also know 4 65-69 year olds having theirs this week

Here's some good news on treatments: Inhaled steroid Budesonide reduced risk of patients needing hospital care by 90% when given in the first 7 days of symptoms.

www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2021.02.04.21251134v1.article-info

Based on the number need to treat and the cost of the drug, giving Budesonide to everyone who has a positive test would save 1 hospital admission for every £120 spent. A hospital admission costs a lot more than £120

I was part of a larger trial for the same thing, conscentrating on older adults and those with comorbidities. It is still running, if anyone is eligible and wants to volunteer. You have to be either over 65, or over 50 with a relevant health condition. See here

The sooner the trial completes, the sooner treatment policy will change. Along with vaccines, this could all but eliminate sever Covid needing hospital care.

Good to see the Sun nailing its colours firmly to the vaccine mast.

Thewiseoneincognito · 10/02/2021 12:18

Beautiful sunny day where I am giving good weather vibes if this lockdown goes beyond Easter 🐣🐰🌸 or we lift earlier and have a summer lockdown 🌞🌻

Wow, that is good news indeed.

How is it possible that we are able to pick up this sort of news, but news papers and channels are not?! Oh wait...because they don’t want to! 😅

TeaInTheGarden · 10/02/2021 13:04

@PuzzledObserver that’s fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

Not sure if it’s just because I haven’t looked in a couple of days but number of Zoe cases seems to have had quite a dip - down to 14967 Smile

FuzzyPuffling · 10/02/2021 13:43

Great stuff Puzzled...really good news. If I get a positive test I'm volunteering. (I volunteered for vaccine trials but I don't think they want me!)

There were a few days where it didn't update and was stuck at around 18k for a while.

Has anyone looked at the Flaming Lips bubble concert

Funny. I heard them talking on radio but didn’t realise audience was in actual individual bubbles

clarexbp · 10/02/2021 13:58

More evidence coming through that the vaccine is working its magic here in the UK.

This from the sainted Prof David Spiegelhalter.

@TeaInTheGarden Thanks for the link to that article - that really is good news and something to throw in the faces of all those 'doom mongers'.

@FuzzyPuffling glad you're feeling brighter today

NeedingCoffee · 10/02/2021 14:45

Loads of good news stories from a very reputable source here; the linked one is the budesonide inhaler mentioned up thread, but below this article are lots of other recent Oxford Uni news, all with a positive outlook.

There’s so much good news coming out at the moment, some very promising trials happening by the looks of things. Thanks to everyone posting the info Smile
