Poll on compulsory covid vaccination in 2021-2023

I don't know what real policy will be, I just wondered about gauging the range of views of readers on this board (chance for lurkers to reply). I will summarise replies if more than 20. Which of the below policies is closest to your own preference, about what the covid vaccination policy should be, for UK adults in 2021-2023?

  1. Optional for everyone, not required by any employer or for customers of a business to show evidence or "reasonable excuse" not to have had it

  2. Not compulsory for all, but health and social care employers can legally require the jab for staff who work with any clinically vulnerable; refusal would be permitted grounds for dismissal if jab not medically contra-indicated

  3. Not compulsory for all, but any employers allowed to require the jab for staff (refusal would be permitted grounds for dismissal); businesses allowed to require jab among customers, thus no jab = legally refuse service

  4. Compulsory for all adults without medical contra-indications

Option 3, although I assume since you mention medical contra-indications as legitimate grounds for refusal in option 2 and option 4 you would also include that in 3.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 06/02/2021 12:47

Anything else is frankly ridiculous.

Also ever worked in care? I have. You get treated like a piece of shit anyway. People leave all the time, most places I've worked it constant recruitment. If they are going to make a vaccine compulsory how about they pay more than min wage, make conditions better for staff, don't treat them like thick scum and pay sick pay to (not just SSP that no one can live off).

In truth I lean towards 2 but my belief that you can't make vaccination compulsory is absolute.

BogRollBOGOF · 06/02/2021 12:49
  1. Bodily autonomy is important. The vast majority are willing to be vaccinated, and it's important that people make an informed consent about what goes into their body and are confident that the benefits outweigh the risks.

The vaccination programme is going well and the side effects reported mostly minor and at similar rates to programmes such as flu vaccines.

Anti-vaxxers exist and complusion actually feeds their misconceptions and aggravates the issue. I strongly disagree with their stance, but the right to free speech is important and driving such beliefs underground causes more problems than it solves, and creates more of an echo chamber.

100% 1. I just don't feel comfortable forcing people to be vaccinated even though I'll happily have it myself.

Compulsory. Because if people don’t get vaccinated it fucks up all of our lives. People should only have freedom as long as it doesn’t negatively affect others. Your freedom to swing your arm ends when your fist hits my face. And your freedom to refuse a vaccination ends when your refusal means I get locked down and can’t live my life.

AlohaMolly · 06/02/2021 12:53

I’m not anti vaxx but strongly pro choice.

PicsInRed · 06/02/2021 12:53

I've always fully vaxxed for anything indicated, including unfunded vaccines I've needed to pay for and consider anti-vaxxers to be misconceived in their opposition. With that said, it is completely unacceptable to legally compel anyone to take any routine medical treatment they do not properly consent to and we must never go down that path.

BogRollBOGOF has summed it up very well.

RosesAndLemonade · 06/02/2021 13:00
  1. No other vaccine is compulsory and this is no different
Glenchase · 06/02/2021 13:01

Of course it’s different. If people don’t get this vaccine we won’t be able to go about our normal lives. That’s not true of any other vaccine.

Grannycurls · 06/02/2021 13:06

Voting 1 does not make you anti-vax.

munchbunch12 · 06/02/2021 13:08

Whilst I have always had any recommended vaccinations, and taken my children for theirs, I don't think anyone should be forced to have it.
