Poll on compulsory covid vaccination in 2021-2023

I don't know what real policy will be, I just wondered about gauging the range of views of readers on this board (chance for lurkers to reply). I will summarise replies if more than 20. Which of the below policies is closest to your own preference, about what the covid vaccination policy should be, for UK adults in 2021-2023?

  1. Optional for everyone, not required by any employer or for customers of a business to show evidence or "reasonable excuse" not to have had it

  2. Not compulsory for all, but health and social care employers can legally require the jab for staff who work with any clinically vulnerable; refusal would be permitted grounds for dismissal if jab not medically contra-indicated

  3. Not compulsory for all, but any employers allowed to require the jab for staff (refusal would be permitted grounds for dismissal); businesses allowed to require jab among customers, thus no jab = legally refuse service

  4. Compulsory for all adults without medical contra-indications

The amount of 1’s are horrifying.

3 or 4 - how does everyone think we eradicated smallpox? It wasn't by people deciding whether they fancied a jab or not. This virus will be back every year like flu - if you choose not to take a jab for whatever reason, you may (or may not) catch a worse variant the following year if you decline the likely annual jab. You might also travel and bring back variants we don't currently have here if you have not got the reduced transmission benefit of the jab. By not suppressing this virus as much as possible using vaccination alongside the other measures, we are just running up a bigger bill for the NHS and for our kids who already have a massive lifetime bill from this pandemic. If 3 or 4 became the norm, there would have to be proper changes to compensate the very small number of people who might suffer an unexpected reaction. Alternatively, if they had better antibody tests people could opt not to have a jab if they could prove immunity but I don't think the science is there yet so jabs cover off that uncertainty. My DD had her MMR in the eye of the Andrew Wakefield scandal- I actually had other mums tell me that they weren't going to vaccinate their precious children because mine and others with MMR jab would protect them. How selfish is that?

Something between 1 and 2. There will almost certainly be some companies who will require it and be able to argue it is a reasonable one (health and social care), you will not be able to travel to some places without it, and in some cases not access some services.

Bodily autonomy matters and setting it aside because you think this situation merits it is setting a dangerous precedent.

@MyDcAreMarvel

The amount of 1’s are horrifying.
Why? Would you like me to dictate to you what happens to your body and you have no say in it ? No I didn't think so!

I’m very pro vaccine but (1)

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/02/2021 13:55

@AquaFairySoul yes I would be happy for you to force me to save the lives of others if I was too selfish to do so.

@MyDcAreMarvel

The amount of 1’s are horrifying.
Why is it horrifying? What world would you like to live in where you had no choice in what to do to your own body?
SusannahSophia · 06/02/2021 13:56

Somewhere between 1 and 2, but without the right of dismissal, merely moving to a different role, but any new employees requiring a vaccine if medically safe for them.

To be honest there are adverse consequences now for some people who refuse a vaccination.

If I refuse to have the flu vaccination, one of the drugs I take will be withdrawn, so arguably it's a mandatory vaccine. I have a choice, but not much of one.

JuliesIpad · 06/02/2021 13:58

You can opt out but you will have to make big sacrifices in your ability to work or socialise. Not dissimilar to what we are all doing now.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/02/2021 13:58

@Fuckadoodledoooo a choice to refuse something that will do you no harm but will save the lives of others should never be a choice. It’s other people’s “bodies” that will no longer exist if we don’t achieve herd immunity.
