@DrMadelineMaxwell

I think we have has the notice when they declared the intention for ks2 and exam years to go back in the briefing in half term. We will just have it confirmed in the next briefing I think. Numbers are falling so they have no reason to put the brakes on and u turn on what they announced for the 15th
Thanks, that makes sense. Really hoping they can get as many kids back as possible.

@CassandraKnew even if it was super well funded & efficient, the nhs would struggle with uncontained waves of covid.
But, I do think it’s worth pointing out here what an absolute mess Welsh Labour have made of the nhs here. I am not a Tory supporter, but I get so fed up of seeing Labour supporters blame the tories when the Welsh nhs is doing so badly under Labour.

I’m really confused about what is going on with these vaccines. In England, they’re apparently moving to over 40s now and many people seem to be able to book online.
How are we really doing? Is England sprinting ahead?

Azuretwist · 02/03/2021 01:41

No, not everywhere, still on group 6 for my family in England - they are waiting for CV family members to be vaccinated. Gp’s are sorting Group 6. Anyone over the age 60 can now book themselves in though. A few areas may be further ahead, not everywhere.

TDogsInHats · 02/03/2021 07:51

I echo what Azure twist says. I'm in England, they're doing well with group 6 vaccines and have opened up to group 7 (age 60+) now.
I do know anecdotally that if there are no shows or left over doses at the day's end, then it's a first come first serve basis so none get wasted.

AlohaMolly · 02/03/2021 08:03

I think it must be very local area dependent. I said up thread, but DP is 40 in April and had his call for his vaccine, no relevant underlying health conditions.

Azuretwist · 02/03/2021 08:04

That is great. My 61 year old English relative is getting theirs tomorrow and their Group 6 relative is still waiting.

tinytemper66 · 02/03/2021 09:16

My local health board has put a road map on social media telling the groups when they should receive their call for the vaccine- both first and second doses. I should have mine between 9-19th April. So not too long now.

no that's not true. In England there are rumours that they could be onto the 40s at some point in April but that's a month away. Nobody under 60 is booking online unless they're in the CV categories.

However I know that Wales are now prioritising Pfizer for 2nd shots. My parents have theirs next week after a break of only 5 weeks. Therefore it stands to reason that there will be less (Pfizer) 1st shots. There may be increased supply of AZ to compensate though.

Frazzled2207 · 02/03/2021 12:57

PS there are indeed some under 60s NOT cv getting vaccinated in England but it is small pockets of the country only not generally. And they can't book online.

Frazzled2207 · 02/03/2021 13:00

this is where Wales it up to generally - click on vaccintion tab. It looks like they are mostly on the 60-64 age group but there will be pockets where they are still on higher age groups

Cases in Conwy county are stubbornly refusing to drop. There's a concentration of cases in the Llanfairfechan & Penmaenmawr ward, does anyone know what's going on here? Is it community transmission or concentrated in an employer or institution?

Cases in Conwy 1 today, you're looking for 0 then

We're in this pocket in Conwy, waiting for more vaccines, they're cracking on with second jabs in over seventies

Update from Betsi Cadwaladr health board (the last one on their website which is dated Feb 23rd). Looks like 1st vax for group 5 and 6 on hold.

Due to central vaccines production capacity, vaccine supplies again this week are limited. From early March, we expect an increase in the numbers of vaccines available to us. This will enable us to ramp up the numbers of vaccinations we give in order to reach the next target set by Welsh Government to complete the vaccination of cohorts 1 to 9 by the end of April.

Over 60 per cent of the over 65s have also now been vaccinated. When GP surgeries take delivery of further AstraZeneca vaccines over the coming days, they will continue to vaccinate priority group 5 before moving on to priority group 6.

There were 110 in the last week. We all worked out 12 months ago that looking at the daily figures produces wild outliers, a better picture is gained by averaging them over a week. Until I see evidence to the contrary, I'll treat that '1' figure as one of those outliers.

Looks like my yr 8 might get some limited time in school before Easter. I guess this a reaction to Scotland's change of plan. My Yr 3 looking forward to going back on 15th. Cannot wait for a break from homeschooling think we have all run out of any last bit of enthusiasm now.

The noise seems to be suggesting we will get back 5 mile rule after12th but Surely not for long if self catering opening at Easter. Not much of a holiday if nothing open and can't go anywhere!

Frazzled2207 · 03/03/2021 14:17

“The limited time in school” is a bit of a joke tbh so that they can say that they went back to school before the shops opened but in reality it will be for a matter of hours until after Easter.
Given how low the numbers are, IMO they should all be back in full time as of about now.

CeeJay81 · 03/03/2021 14:41

I am pleased my year 7 will be back to school briefly. Easter is only a month away now, so not much longer. He is lucky his best friend/class mate lives just up the street and they did their science lesson together today, looking for bugs (maybe that against the rules I don't know, but oh well). Having better weather has made a difference to his mood. I'm also getting my vaccine on Friday, so feeling more positive atm.

Totallyfedup1979 · 03/03/2021 15:15

Welsh Gov are a bunch of idiots.

Make a decision and stick to it. That’s all I ask.
Weeks of planning, not seeing family to get it done etc...in the bin. And now starting again with less time to do everything.

Chances are kids might get a couple of hours one day in the last week. Great. All those changes to planning to accommodate a ‘check-in’, which also means less in the way of online lessons for that week.

It’s simply a show. They are panicking because of Scotland and England and think they’ve been too cautious...which they have...but yet again, everyone else can sort out the problem.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 03/03/2021 17:49

Limited contact in our local secondary works out as one half day in the week before Easter. Not really worth it.

I really dont see the point in the stay local/5 miles nonsense. I travel 60 miles round trip to work and I would not be able to go to a shop(wasn't able to in the last one and especially when we were only allowed to stay in county)

Lupinhere37 · 04/03/2021 05:24

@tinytemper66
I agree with you! I can see the Old Severn crossing from my house. There is a non stop stream of traffic over it. During the very first lockdown, I could stand outside and hear total silence, apart from the birds and farm animals. Now I always hear traffic in the background.
So what difference does it make if I travel 5 miles to exercise when clearly there are people in and out of Wales non stop? Especially with the concern about the Brazil variant.

I sometimes watch the Points West local news, which tells me they’re emergency surge testing around South Gloucestershire and Cribbs Causeway. Which is exactly where the English side of the bridge lands, in that county. I’ve no doubt that a good deal of that traffic will be coming from that area; working, supermarket shopping etc. But I’m not hearing of any surge testing in South Wales, as a response.
That really worries me, with the return to school coming shortly. An increased layer of risk for teachers and parents now. I really want my yr 12 back at school but not without risk adequate assessment and I worry that there is little consideration to border containment when more infectious variants are in circulation.Confused

tinytemper66 · 04/03/2021 10:04

@Lupin I can see the sea from my house but to exercise I would have to drive there. I haven't but so many have as I see it on social media.
Frustration felt.
I am in school today with one child whom I am helping as mum feels they need some more support. I can't wait until all my classes are back but that wont be until after Easter sadly.

orangejuicer · 04/03/2021 15:34

Just to say that my brother in law (group 5) has had his vaccination today and my partner (group 6) has had his appointment through.
