This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

Re 2nd jabs - Sir Simon Stephens this evening said something about having more volunteer jabbers waiting in the wings, so that if the supply of vaccine was there they could continue with 1st jabs at the same rate while also doing 2nd jabs. At least I think that's what I heard.

He also said they had held back supplies so they can do 2nd jabs at the right time.

@55larry

My sil recently started work for the command centre of the fire service and finished his training last Friday. Tonight was his first shift and before he had done any work the centre were rung by the local hospital to say they had 4 spare doses if anyone could get there in 20 minutes. He was one of only two of them who hadn’t been vaccinated so they were sent off to the hospital. Two doses not wasted.

When he will get his second dose he doesn’t know but he is delighted to have received his first.

I'm in a workplace that has that arrangement, and was offered the chance this afternoon. They didn't have to ask me twice, I was round there in 20 minutes with my tongue hanging out like a puppy; although as I'm over 60 I probably wouldn't have had to wait that much longer anyway.

Are you watching me yet, Bill? Or is it the second dose that switches on the nanobots? Grin

digitaldays

Just finished another shift at a vaccine hubs. We got through 1500 patients today alone“

Bless you. Warning: if you are unlucky enough to jab me, I may try to kiss you 😁

CaveMum · 15/02/2021 22:24

Great news @Anniegetyourgun, though I think you need the second dose before the chip kicks in. You get your extra arm/leg from the first dose Wink

Paddy1234 · 15/02/2021 23:17

We are starting to see the die hard refusers coming forward to get the jab now - slowly though but surely

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/02/2021 23:48

Brilliant that people are changing their minds and getting jabbed Smile
No idea if it will happen but all this talk of vaccine passports etc should help. Plus obviously people seeing lots of others getting done.

DH got a text with his invitation tonight! SmileHe's 59, 60 next month and has a heart condition but didn't know if he would be in group 6 - he was a bit worried if he wasn't he'd just miss out on group 7 rollout.

Sitting in the waiting area for 15 minutes at the moment after just being jabbed at my local hub. So efficient, friendly and safe. I'm in awe of the organisation of it all. 👏👏

DianaT1969 · 16/02/2021 11:13

If Bill Gates is watching me following my first vaccine, he's going to want his money back. Home, walk around the duck pond, back home. Rinse and repeat. 😂

TheABC · 16/02/2021 12:06

That's the thing which baffles me about the paranoid nanobot theories. It could be done, but why on earth would anyone want to? Between Google, the supermarkets and traffic cameras, anyone could piece together my daily lives (and then be disappointed at the mundanity).

Evil Overlords have plenty of other exciting things to do.

Anyway, go vaccine! Star Star

Breaking news today
Extra 1.7m vulnerable added to shielding list
For some it will also mean they are now prioritised for vaccination.

Half of them were already on the list for other reasons so the net gain is 820k

FourTeaFallOut · 16/02/2021 14:44

Really interesting to see that ethnicity and postcode have made their way into the shielding algorithm. I'm glad it's been factored in. I wonder if this is the smart shielding the Debbie Harries talked about last summer, if it is then it has been a painfully slow development.

On the upside a good chunk of that 1.7m has already been jabbed, it shouldn't be too long to get the rest.

I am now 50 minutes post-jab (Pfizer) and back home enjoying a nice cup of tea. I was done in a big tent - drive through, then wait in the car park for your fifteen minutes.

Tomorrow, I will be in the statistics :-)

Excellent! How is the extra limb coming along? Wink
PuzzledObserver · 16/02/2021 15:58

@CaveMum I thought extra limbs were for AZ, and heads for Pfizer?

Radio reception in the car coming back was excellent, though.

Yes, but I wish you hadn't sung along; it sounded awful.

Thank you for the update Coffee.

mateysmum · 16/02/2021 16:15

Does anyone have a theory as to why the numbers are a bit down this week?
Supply or the switch to groups 5 & 6 means insufficient people have been called / booked?

Someone said on another thread that Group 6 are being handled by GP practices so I guess they can't turnover the same numbers as the big hubs.
