10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

@Paddy1234 the BBC’s graphic says 2.9m, but still shouldn’t take long! Especially as many areas seem to have already done them, I know ours was already on them a couple of weeks ago, and my FIL in that category had his last week. 60-64 is surprisingly small at 1.8m. Given that apparently GPs are doing group 6 and vaccination centres group 5, I would have thought they should just start allowing group 7 to book at vaccination centres too to get appointments filled

lurker101 · 15/02/2021 12:43

@Paddy1234 statista put it at 3.37m in 2019, but still quite a small number and some of these people will already have been done (NI have had their bookings open for this group for around 2 weeks, so many will have been done, and I’ve heard of other areas having called people in this age group)

CoffeeandCroissant · 15/02/2021 12:49

@Paddy1234

Did I read correctly that there are only 1.2m in the 65-70 age group. That means they would storm through it
65-69 = 2.9 million according to this?

A friend and I are in the 65-69 age group and we have both been done - different areas. We were both contacted by our GPs initially, then had letters inviting us to book after we'd had the jab.

buttery81 · 15/02/2021 14:04

My parents are in the 65-69 group and had theirs done 1.5 weeks ago Smile

My 69 year old mum was done on Friday 5th.

It sounds like there were about 3 million 65 - 69 year olds so presumably that will take about a week - with some areas already done if they were doing them over a week ago. Grin

Mumoftwoinprimary · 15/02/2021 14:17

Hugo Gye’s latest numbers.

188,083 additional vaccine doses registered in England yesterday (187,246 1st doses, 837 2nd doses)

31,636 in Scotland
13,987 in Wales

So 240k ish when we include Northern Ireland.

There are concerns about supplies though for the next couple of weeks.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 15/02/2021 14:21

Fascinating article here about our favourite website.

Oh well, if things slow down for a week or two, it'll give the staff and volunteers a chance to take a break, and to do any cleaning and maintenance that needs doing at any of the vaccination centres.

They've known this was likely to happen, so it will have been factored in to the planning.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/02/2021 14:44

Are there actually concerns about supplies beyond the thing about Pfizer slowing down because of reorganisation at the factory?

lunar1 · 15/02/2021 14:51

Amazing to think that this time next week the over 65's could mostly be vaccinated. Hopefully my dad will get his this week.

UserEleventyNine · 15/02/2021 14:57

I think they warned back in January that supplies could be 'lumpy', meaning a bit up and down. The message was 'be aware that this might happen', rather than 'this is something to be worried about'.

@Mumoftwoinprimary a very good read!

NeedToGetOuttaHere · 15/02/2021 15:11

If one member of a household is group 6 does all the household get their invite for a jab together?

CaveMum · 15/02/2021 15:12

From @Mumoftwoinprimary's link:

Every day at 4pm, when the latest figures are published, coronavirus.data.gov.uk accounts for 50 per cent of all of the government’s online traffic. As many as 70,000 people are online at that time refreshing the page, waiting for good – or bad – news.

Hands up, how many are MNers? Grin

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 15/02/2021 15:38

Hand up☺️

Really enjoyed that article. I’m one of them! Grin

Speaking of which...

15,300,151 people have now received their 1st dose of vaccine, up to and including 14th Feb

Nice to be almost a third of the way through the 15 millions already! Smile

Fantastic numbers, keeping up the pace!

My name is Mumoftwoinprimary and I’m a 4pm data site addict. It has been 35 minutes since I last pressed refresh obsessively on my phone. Grin

Numbers were interesting today. Vaccination figures are down - as predicted by Hugo Gye - but only by about 15% compared to this time last week. Which really doesn’t seem too bad - at that rate we are looking at 2.5 million per week rather than 3 million per week. Which is still a huge number of people to vaccinate per week. I’m still hoping for 20 million by End Feb which would be wonderful as that would be all over 65s and a good proportion of the CEV as well.

For the first time since 2nd October we went below 10,000 positive tests in a day. That feels like something to celebrate.

PuzzledObserver · 15/02/2021 16:46

No, people are invited according to their individual category.

There are stories of people who went along as carers being offered the jab at the same time as the person they care for, but that seems to be opportunistic using up of doses that would otherwise be wasted rather than policy.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 15/02/2021 16:51

I too would like to hold my hand up to having a 4pm addiction 🙌🏻 even my 9yo DD tells me 'it's 4pm check the data!'

gingeristhenewblack43 · 15/02/2021 16:57

@NeedToGetOuttaHere it's worth the person accompanying someone for their vaccine to take their NHS number along too in case they get offered the jab.

My DM accompanied my DF to his vax appt, and although she was not technically eligible at that point in time she was offered her jab too as they had already had no shows that day.

DM didn't have her NHS number with her so they could not give her a date for her 2nd jab, but they were able to give her the first dose using her personal info.

BMW6 · 15/02/2021 17:33

My Sister (65) got her letter today. 1st jab this Saturday, 2nd on 8 May.

We are in Hampshire if at all relevant/interesting

Thanks for sharing that Mumoftwo - very good news indeed!
