This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

@PuzzledObserver

That should mean 15m total. Or am I getting overexcited?
Not yet! We were 14,012,000 yesterday so this will put us on track for 15m in tomorrow’s update.
DdraigGoch · 13/02/2021 14:26

Come on NI, make it a total of 550k!

Frazzled2207 · 13/02/2021 14:32

indeed I think we will hit 15 million today but I don't think it will be confirmed until tomorrow

PuzzledObserver · 13/02/2021 14:32

I was looking at the live tracker - think I got confused with total doses. That could well be 15m today.

CoffeeandCroissant · 13/02/2021 14:34

The exact data will be available at 4PM but the number of new doses administered yesterday is going to be 537K-555K

England administered 440K doses compared to 403K last week.

14.5 million people have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

Blimey, these numbers are insane. In the best way possible 🥳

@TheABC

This is brilliant news. Grin

Like others on the thread, I am concerned about the lack of take up in the BAME communities; we need to do more to address their questions around the vaccine.

I am wondering how the rollout will work when the first group need the second jab. Will it just pause whilst we go back and do group 1,2,3, etc?

I’ve been thinking about this.

We currently have a run-rate of about 3 million a week. First person vaccinated was on 8th December so no one needs a second dose until March. So in February we can just keep on jabbing. Means we will get to over 20 million by the end of February.

In March all the December jabbers will need a second dose. But that was only about 1 million so will barely cause a blink in the jab-jab-jab in March. At the current run rate that will take us up to 32 million by end March which is all the Groups 1-9. Which would be wonderful.

For April - June we will need to do the second jab for those 32 million which will massively impact on how many first jabs we can do.

BUT I think at the moment the main limiting factor isn’t vaccination capacity but supply. And from April the supply is expected to go up. Our best ever day had 600k jabs so if we had the supplies to do that every day then that would take the run rate up to over 4 million a week.

At 4 million a week we would be able to do 52 million in the April - June period. So that is then 32 million for vulnerable people’s second jabs and 20 million still left for first jabs. And rather conveniently 20 million is pretty much exactly the rest of the adult population.

So that would mean that by the end of June the entire adult population has been jabbed and all the vulnerable will have had two jabs.

We will then have July - Sept to give the last of the second jabs to the low risk people at an easy run rate of less than 2 million per week.

As a warning - I tend to err on the optimistic side. But - so far the vaccination numbers have far exceeded even my most optimistic hopes. So I don’t think that this is an unrealistic possibility.

Londt · 13/02/2021 15:05

@Mumoftwoinprimary I like the cut of your jib.

CoffeeandCroissant · 13/02/2021 15:07

Means we will get to over 20 million by the end of February.

Looks like there might be a significant slow down in the second half of February though, due to the Pfizer manufacturing rejig?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/02/2021 15:17

I do wonder if there will be a bit of a slow down of pfizer, in order to be able to vaccine match those who've had doses of pfizer already. There was that temporary supply issue while they rearranged things in order to increase supply going forward. That may become apparent in the numbers for a few weeks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/02/2021 15:18

sorry, missed the previous post to mine!

Mumoftwoinprimary · 13/02/2021 16:17

544603! Our best ever Friday!

In other good news - our “7 day cases” figure is now lower than it was at its lowest point after the last lockdown. (97k vs 101k.)

gingeristhenewblack43 · 13/02/2021 16:18

Epic news 🥳

@Mumoftwoinprimary I love reading your stats. Thanks very much for the effort!

buttery81 · 13/02/2021 16:52

14,556,827 people have now had their first dose of vaccine up to and including 12th February.

That’s 27.5% (or 1 in 3.6) of all UK adults.

A-MAZ-ING!!! Grin

@Mumoftwoinprimary am loving your logic

InterfectoremVulpes · 13/02/2021 17:04

Also, by April the J&J single jab might be available for everyone else, so no need to schedule in second jabs, which means we could all be done by end of June.

MaddieElla · 13/02/2021 17:10

Fantastic. We'll be hitting that magic 15 million right now but I can't wait for the numbers tomorrow.

I hope the media (and Mumsnet 🙄) celebrate this for the massive achievement it is. 👏

PuzzledObserver · 13/02/2021 17:24

The 600,000 day shows that there is the staffing to do that many, as long as the doses are available. Who knows, perhaps we could even do more.

The one-dose J&J jab will be a good addition to the arsenal - though part of me wonders whether they wouldn’t get even better results with a second dose.

And then there’s the research about mixing and matching vaccines - about which I am optimistic (with no real basis, I just am). And variant-kicking boosters coming in the Autumn.

2021 is going to be an improving scenario, people.

yellowspanner · 13/02/2021 17:36

I am definitely celebrating. It is wonderful news

buttery81 · 13/02/2021 17:36

2021 is going to be an improving scenario, people.

It really feels like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel now, doesn’t it? The vaccine figures truly are astounding.

Got a message from work this morning saying we are eligible to book under the heading of front line social care workers. I did so, but felt a little bit “off”, because we are basically not meeting people face to face apart from very rare occasions.

Spent ages hunting down my work ID, as it said you needed to prove eligibility. Found it.

Then my phone pinged.... and I was being invited to book by my GP at their shared hub - I’m group 6 owing as I have diabetes. I feel better about that. So I have cancelled my appointments at the big vaccination centre and booked at the GP hub instead. I’m going on Tuesday afternoon :-)

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 13/02/2021 18:13

Our local GP hub are now saying that nationally they are being told to move on to group 6 now. As well as finishing off anyone left in previous groups. So at GP level at least they are cracking on fast.

digitaldays · 13/02/2021 19:10

Hi all, just back from a vaccine shift in Scotland. We did great today. Getting quicker at jabbing and really felt we made a big difference.
The only thing to warn you... ( Scotland based), all the vaccinators in our area have had their shifts cancelled for next two weeks.
Not entirely sure why, but educated guess is there is a supply issue. We are getting close to the administering of second doses, and I'm presuming that's to hold back some supplies for that.
Disappointing. I'm
Guess the numbers are going to slow down for next few weeks...

Bumpsadaisie · 13/02/2021 19:14

When do you predict an ordinary 46 year old with no particular features (ie moi!) might get their first jab?

Thanks so much to all the vaccinators 🥰

EasterIssland · 13/02/2021 19:28

@Bumpsadaisie

Thanks so much to all the vaccinators 🥰

Hope soon! So that the 36yo woman that is wfh with no underlying issues has it soon as well (aka moi ;))

I’m predicting June-ish myself tho hopefully sooner as I’d like to travel and visit my family already vaccinated
