This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

Oh I’m SOOOOO chuffed to have found this thread.
My entire world right now is following vaccine news and willing the vaccine rate to increase and increase. It’s fascinating and wonderful. It fills me with joy!!

Thanks for all the figures, I’ll be watching with excitement

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/02/2021 17:09

@lurker101

So for every person in the U.K. that had a positive test reported today 28.5 people were vaccinated. I like that ratio Grin
Brilliant
MaddieElla · 09/02/2021 17:53

Love that ratio!

Unless the weather messes it up we are definitely over 13 million tomorrow. 🥳🥳

CaveMum · 09/02/2021 18:27

OooErrThor · 09/02/2021 18:53

This thread always puts a smile on my face, finally we are doing something right.

Everyday more vaccination hubs are opening so each week more and more will be vaccinated 🥳

yellowspanner · 09/02/2021 22:09

It's 13,162,878 by last night. And I am one of them. 👏👏

Just calculated that we need an additional 353,513 reported tomorrow (hopefully done already!) to get to 13m. Is amazing.
13.9 m is the rough target isn't it? When you consider that some of the 15 million in the first four categories are double counted.

Meanwhile I hear that 120% of Scottish HCPs are vaccinated. I thought that was impressive! I guess they've found some extra.

PuzzledObserver · 09/02/2021 22:23

Re the Israel data:

38% of the population vaccinated (with at least one shot - about 25% have had the second as well)

They account for 3% of Covid deaths in the last 30 days, with the remaining 62% of the population accounting for 97% of deaths. Please check my maths, but I think that means the risk of death in the vaccinated group is 5% of the unvaccinated group.

But it’s better than that when you take into account that they started vaccinating older people first. They would have been expected to die at a faster rate than the younger and still unvaccinated ones.

article here

I wonder if that’s doses, rather than people. If they started well on HCP’s, maybe a fair few have already had their second jab?

article here

No of deaths = x

Vaccinated group has 0.03x deaths. Unvaccinated group has 0.97x deaths.

Total population is y. So 0.38y I’m vaccinated group and 0.62y in unvaccinated group.

Prob death for vaccinated group = 0.03x/0.38y = 0.07895x/y

Prob death unvaccinated group = 0.97x/0.62y = 1.5645x/y

0.07895 / 1.5645 = 0.050

So - yes - vaccinated group risk of death is 5% of the unvaccinated group risk of death.

Did Israel also start off by vaccinating the older / iller people? Ie did the vaccinated group start off with a much higher risk of death?

Mumoftwoinprimary · 09/02/2021 22:46

I’ve now read the article and yes - they have turned the “highest risk of death” people into the “lowest risk of death people”!

Jangle33 · 09/02/2021 22:49

Can someone explain to me, with presumably the majority receiving the Oxford vaccine, even at best doesn’t it only have 70% success, potentially much lower in older groups/the new strain.

Plus surely some question mark on the 12 week spacing.

Isn’t everything far too unknown still?

Aren’t we getting our hopes up for nothing? I still don’t think I can see my vaccinated parents until transmission levels are virtually gone?

LetItGoGo · 09/02/2021 22:49

I think it vindicates the oldest first vaccination strategy.

The 70% figure used is just about transmission of the infection. So would mean there is still a 30% chance a person could get covid

However AZ offers just about 100% protection from serious illness or death

It is suggested that the new SA variant lowers vaccine effectiveness. The experiment in question was very small and not using the longer 12 week gap that we know makes the AZ vaccine work better. Therefore nothing is confirmed about the effect of AZ on SA yet.

Are current two dominant variants are still knocked out well by AZ and Pfizer. Plus AZ has been found to reduce there transmission greatly

Hang in there. Hopefully you can see your loved ones in a few weeks

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/02/2021 23:12

Loving your workings out Mum❤

Yes. Totally shows we are doing the right thing with the priority list. On the good news thread someone had a brilliant graph showing nursing home infections going down😊

No it specifically said 1st doses. Will try and find

Here we are re Scotland. This is from the depths of Twitter though no idea what the actual source is. But seems recent.

10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 09/02/2021 23:28

How can you have 120%?

Frazzled6 · 09/02/2021 23:38

The initial selection criteria has probably changed and they have vaccinated other people within that group like SEN school teachers etc.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 10/02/2021 00:25

Also results using the 12 week dose delay strategy are soon to be published and they are very good news. Totally supports the decision Smile

Both with the young and elderly Grin

Camilla is 'very happy' after Covid-19 jab: Duchess of Cornwall, 73, receives her first coronavirus vaccine... but it's not known if Prince Charles has also been inoculated
