This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

There was a link in the mail yesterday that showed what stage your county is at. Mine was at 20% of 70s to 75s. Whilst this seem to be behind, looking at the figures and living in an area with many affluent areas it makes sense that there would be more elderly people and the uptake for the over 80s was over 92%. So longer life expectancy, not being the most diverse county the figures seem about right.

CaveMum · 06/02/2021 16:23

Amazing numbers again today, so close to half a million again!

First dose 494,163
Second dose 4,064

Total vaccinations 11,465,210

CaveMum · 06/02/2021 16:24

Forgot the total 2nd vaccinations - 510,057

plasticCandles · 06/02/2021 16:26

When will it have any effect on death rates ?

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 16:27

🥳 Great figures

So pigging close to that 500k. Can't you just taste it. I think they are teasing us now😂😂😂

Blessex · 06/02/2021 16:29

Wooooohooooo!!! Aren’t the death rates already coming down?

CaveMum · 06/02/2021 16:31

@plasticCandles

When will it have any effect on death rates ?
In the next few weeks hopefully. It takes 3 weeks for the immunity to build after vaccination then from exposure to the virus to potentially needing hospitalisation is another couple of weeks and then to death another week or so.

We only started vaccinating in bigger numbers in late Dec so 6 weeks from then takes us to mid Feb-ish.

That is my back of the fag packet calculation anyway Grin

PuzzledObserver · 06/02/2021 16:33

@plasticCandles

When will it have any effect on death rates ?
People dying now mostly contracted Covid 4-5 weeks ago. Towards the shorter end of that for the most frail, e.g. care home residents.

With around 90% of over 80's now vaccinated and all "eligible" (i.e. not in outbreak) care homes vaccinated, we should be starting to see death rates fall... well, about now, really. Give it till the end of February, it will be very obvious.

There's a graph I've seen on Twitter showing death rates in different age brackets, on a logarithmic scale. It's obvious form that that deaths are declining faster in the over 80's than any other bracket, followed by the over 70's/

Total vaccinations 11,465,210

Fantastic!!!

That means 21.6% (1 in every 4.6) of all UK adults have now had their 1st dose!

OP posts:
buttery81 · 06/02/2021 16:37

For me the next exciting milestone is 13,250,000 - when we hit that, it’ll mean that 25% of all adults will have had their 1st dose! Smile

Thank you for explaining I’ve been worrying that it’s not made much difference yet, i hope it does soon

Mumoftwoinprimary · 06/02/2021 16:39

I might be wrong but I think that we might just - and I mean just - be starting to see an impact on death rates already.

Looking at the rate of change between last week and this week is very interesting....

First cases started falling. And then started falling faster and faster. Currently at 25%.

Then hospitalisation started falling. And then started falling faster and faster. Behind cases falling but following the same sort of pattern.

Deaths also finally started falling a couple of weeks ago. And again got faster and faster in the same sort of pattern.

But today - deaths have now over taken hospitalisation in speed of falling. 20.9% vs 20.1% for hospitalisation.

And that is weird. Makes no sense. Unless the vaccines is starting to have an impact. Only a tiny impact but an impact all the same.

I might be seeing what I want to see - but maybe......

Eccle80 · 06/02/2021 16:40

It is so great to see the numbers going up
@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum if they are 65+ it may well be fairly soon, our area has started on that group. If under 65 it could be a while as they are behind the vulnerable younger people in group 6 which is a large group

buttery81 · 06/02/2021 16:46

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum can I just say a big thank you to your DH! Smile

This is an encouraging tweet from my fav statistician on Twitter, showing the fall in hospitalisations in the 60+ age group in Israel thanks to their vaccination programme. In the next few weeks they’ll show a similar fall in death rates.

10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!
buttery81 · 06/02/2021 16:52

Excellent and very encouraging graph CaveMum, thank you!

Let's hope your are a right. The government graphs seem to suggest you could be with the sharper drops than first lockdown. Which we all know people behaved themselves better then. I just thought it could be because everything was higher this time. So sharper fall but I like your thinking better 🤞

Fab graph. Very promising. Plus I am afraid my fellow Jews have not always been good at following the social distancing rules etc. Lots of families will be living in multi generation households too. So this is probably more fantastic than people will realise.

Hello, thanks again for these threads. I have a couple of questions and rather than starting a thread I thought id ask on here as it seems a relevant place with knowledgeable people so I hope you don't mind!!
How many people are in the top 4 categories?? Just so I can visualise how long to go until all those have been vaccinated.
Also, where can I find the list of each group? (I tried the gov website but couldn't see it)

Is there a realistic timeline somewhere? I filled out the omni calculator 3 times over different weeks and got a different date each time (literally varying from April this year to June next year!) I'm in my late 20s and not vulnerable so I'm not in any rush but would love to have it.

Thanks for this thread. Really makes me feel positive

InterfectoremVulpes · 06/02/2021 19:10

IIRC its 13.9m in 1-4but I've seen 15m quoted too.
