10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

I understand that the accurate figure is 13.9m and that we are likely to have vaccinated them all (or at least offered to) before the deadline of the 15th.

Boulshired · 06/02/2021 19:22

I would assume the 15 million would cover the surplus jabs that have been given outside the priority groups to avoid wastage and the unpredictable numbers of people working in social care.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 19:25

This is the list of groups with the estimated amount of people

Some people are in more than one group. So the number needing vaccination is actually less.

By 15th February groups 1 to 4 should be pretty much done with first jab. Ads Boris promised.

We are on course for the end of March for groups 5 to 9 have had first jab by end of March. However not promises made about that and things could change.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 19:32

The vaccine calculator changes average doses regularly. So will give different results on different day.

It was quite good to play around with different figures but I think they have altered it now. So there goes my fun.

If that's the case that would overlap slightly with the start of the 2nd jabs for when numbers took of early-mid jan, so they would then fit in those not in 1-9 around those.

Sorry if its been posted already, but how many of us in "group 10"?

Lubiluxe · 06/02/2021 20:08

Thanks all..quite helpful. I assume things will start to slow down though next month as they will need to be making sure they are giving people the second dose..

End of March for 1-9 would be amazing.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 20:14

No group 10 yet. We are waiting to hear the governments future vaccination plans. Personally if I was them I wouldn't tell the general public that plan until the beginning of March. Expectations would be to high. Better to just crack on and get ahead.

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum

This is an incredibly lovely (and unexpectedly moving!) thread to read.

DH (GP) is running a vaccine clinic today, for the umpteenth weekend in the row. We barely see him in the week and the house is a shit-hole, washing not done etc. and kids crawling up the walls.

It is easy to forget how important what he's doing is, and selfishly want him home to at least hold the baby whilst I do stuff.

Thanks for the reminder that he is a small part of something bloody brilliant.

He is & his efforts are MUCH appreciated by so many. As are yours keeping the home fires burning & not seeing much of him. I'd love to hold your baby!!
PuzzledObserver · 06/02/2021 20:41

BBC list of priorities

InterfectoremVulpes · 06/02/2021 20:46

So about 21 million left after 1-9 are done.

Maybe they'll save the Janssen vaccine for that group to get through them more quicklu

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum, every wash not washed is a DGM/DGF safe(r) to meet new DGC when lockdown ends. It’s not just the lives saved, but all those treasured relationships that are yet to be begun. Huge gratitude to your DH, and to you and your DC for the sacrifices you’re making for the rest of us.

Enjoy all the baby cuddles you can grab Flowers

gingeristhenewblack43 · 06/02/2021 21:51

@SchnitzelVonCrummsTum I just want to add my gratitude to your DH. I'm sad that you are missing your DH and that as a family you are missing that precious time with him, and that you feel overwhelmed at home without having him there. It's this sacrifice the general public don't see.

It's not a consolation, but your DH is an absolute hero for everything he is doing to ensure that as many people as possible are getting the vaccine. And you are a hero for soldiering on in difficult circumstances so that he can do what he can to help us all.

JuliesIpad · 06/02/2021 22:01

I'm very interested to see those numbers on the groups. In particular social care and health workers 3.8 million. I was slightly concerned that progress the groups 1 to 4 was slower than they claimed because I thought it only included front line health workers, wheras all the hospitals I know have been vaccinating ALL staff. In fact (just googled), the NHS employs 1.4 million people and social care 1.6 million. So all on track.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/02/2021 22:21

@plasticCandles

Thank you for explaining I’ve been worrying that it’s not made much difference yet, i hope it does soon
It really is already! Shown in hospital admissions if the over 85's.

Anecdotally my friend is a care worker she is in her 60's & was given the jab very early on, she's also had the second one. Then got Covid, but it was only picked up on her lateral test. (Confirmed by PCR) she felt a bit off during her period of quarantine. But not unwell enough to have called in sick had she been working. Her co workers who said they'd have it 'later' as they're younger are all quite unwell with it. Anecdotal. Yep. But I'll take the goid news that it's working well!!

So anecdotally it's doing its job preventing serious illness.

Sidge · 06/02/2021 22:42

I did my bit, vaccinating today. ☺️☺️ Such a positive experience and so many people were full of high spirits, thankful and jolly and just so damned appreciative which makes working extra hours worthwhile!

I’m in a relatively rural market town, our hub is working collaboratively across the area with half a dozen practices, and we are banging out approximately 2500-3000 vaccines EACH WEEK. And we’re only vaccinating two days a week.

It’s phenomenal and having seen the amount of work that goes into the logistics of delivering this programme makes me realise that as a vaccinator I’ve got the easy job!

PuzzledObserver · 06/02/2021 22:46

Thank you, @Sidge.

Sidge · 06/02/2021 22:51

Ah thanks @PuzzledObserver, I feel lucky to be involved really and to be a part of it.

I can honestly say all my colleagues and I were just itching to get involved. We wish we could do more but are limited by the constraints of supply, and vaccine limitations.

I know the vaccine isn’t a magic potion, and we still all have to stay under lockdown for now, with masks and social distancing and hand washing etc but the programme really does feel like the first step back towards normality.

Paddy1234 · 06/02/2021 23:09

Hi everyone - I work in care and are dealing with lots of vaccination results. The data is coming in that you can still catch Covid (but mostly people are still only up to four weeks approx post vaccine) but in general they are coming through as asymptomatic or little to no symptoms. Out of 6k vaccinations no reports of any side effects really - a few dead arms and a few feel a bit poorly for a day but that's it ❤️

Paddy1234 · 06/02/2021 23:11

And 30% refusals from age group 18-40 - a lot of not trusting thinking there's a tracking device in it as well as being made from dead babies and believe me they won't be swayed. Thank you everyone that has helped with the vaccination drive ❤️

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 23:15

Post one🥳❤
Post two 😯🤦‍♀️☹

I personally think we will have some natural immunity from alot of the younger refuses. So that combined with the high percentage of jabs should be ok.

SpringIsComingAlways · 06/02/2021 23:20

It's brilliant and as for major side effects; not heard of any....
Apart from the chips of course Grin...joke

Paddy1234 · 06/02/2021 23:25

There is def immunity from having it before however sadly we have had one death who refused the vaccination as had Covid prior. Heartbreaking for there family

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 06/02/2021 23:30

Oh dear. Poor family Flowers

DdraigGoch · 07/02/2021 01:08

Only 30% refusal in the 18-40 category is still good going though, compared to many places around the world.
