Are teachers getting invites for Vaccination?

I've seen a few posts now where teachers have been invited for a vaccine (outside of the given order stated by the JCVI ).

Has a decision been made to include teachers in one of the higher groups?

At a good guess labour councils are instigating vaccination offers to teachers via Local Authorities.

I'm disappointed that this has happened.. If you look at charts tonight on the briefing it's age that is mainly a factor.

I note Labour aren't asking for teachers to be vaccinated in the last 24 hrs.

TheFallenMadonna · 03/02/2021 17:26

It is special school staff being designated as care staff and vaccinated with that group. Over 60 local authorities. All political affiliations.

Based on what?

Kent is very much not Labour but they accidentally vaccinated some teachers.

Not yet, my friends in a SEND teacher and they’ve all be vaccinated, as have the support workers and the transport staff

Frazzled6 · 03/02/2021 17:33

There was a post earlier from a teacher in Manchester.. Open invitation and my friend in a Labour run council who is a teacher has also had an open invitation.

Would be interested to get this into the press to see how true it is?

lineandsinker · 03/02/2021 17:36

I work in AP and we were invited to book our vaccinations last week by our LEA as they had designated AP / SEND schools in the same categories as care homes. Had mine a few days ago.

itsgettingweird · 03/02/2021 17:37

Our LA offer them to sen school staff - the left overs.

Based on the fact they are expected to be fully open to meet the education, health and care of the pupils who attend for having these plans.

So it's under the health and social care bracket.

noblegiraffe · 03/02/2021 17:37

Manchester appears to have invited teachers at 10pm last night to use up vaccines that would have otherwise been binned. So not a general vaccination programme.

Normal teachers can't socially distance either.

Honestly anyone who thinks they can must have been on the planet Mars.

Frazzled6 · 03/02/2021 17:41

No... This was several other vaccination centres in Manchester.. Andy Burnham once again ignoring the greater health of the nation.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 03/02/2021 17:47

Six is for those with certain health conditions or over 65.

No - group 5 is people aged 65 to 70

Frazzled6 · 03/02/2021 17:49

I can't socially distance in my job... I'm in the same situation as teachers (although probably more at risk because I'm mixing with a range of different people for longer than 1hr and I'm over 60(I'm classed as a keyworker). I would just like my vaccine inline with JCVI guidelines. Everytine someone pushes in puts my vaccine back.

I don't mind people taking last minute vaccines although it would be nice for these to be open invitations to anyone in the first 9 groups... Is that alot to ask?

Letseatgrandma · 03/02/2021 17:53

No-as far as I know there are no plans to vaccinate mainstream schools teachers.

pleasehelpwi3 · 07/02/2021 17:53

All adult staff (and partners) at my primary school have been offered the vaccine as a parent who has a high up NHS job to do with the vaccine got all our names on the list. Been asked to keep it quiet....

Sorry but that is awful and an abuse of position for a senior health worker to “pull strings” inconsistently with others Interesting there is no mention above (from a quick skim - sorry if I missed it) of nurseries and childminders who have zero potential to distance and are literally dealing with snot and shit day in and out !
Wingingit15 · 07/02/2021 19:00

Also why do teachers partners even get in on the covert party ?!

😮 No such luck at the school I work at!

If this is actually true then I’m not surprised you were asked to keep it quiet! Hmm

I fully support teachers and others in similarly ‘exposed’ roles getting the vaccine ASAP. But somebody using their own senior NHS role to queue jump all of the staff (and their partners?!!) in a presumably mainstream school is wrong on every level.

Wafflewife · 07/02/2021 19:15

My neighbour is a SAHM in her 30s and she has also got her jab off the back of knowing the right people. I knew this would happen.

Bluewavescrashing · 07/02/2021 19:17

I'm a teacher and I can't wait for my jab. I'm isolating with symptoms awaiting test results and fed up of the whole thing.

TheChip · 07/02/2021 19:20

My oldest ds school teachers have been called up. As soon as one got vaccinated, they then tested positive and school has now closed. First time they've had to isolate and they've been open throughout.

Frazzled6 · 07/02/2021 21:13

This seems in the main to be happening with Teachers (I'm not having a go about teachers). I can't work out whether there is some directive from local authorities to effectively back door vaccines for teachers or whether there are nurses/gp etc.who have sympathy with teachers so are taking matters into their own hand. Certainly the government could not be seen to changing the goalposts because there would be an outcry from the over 50's waiting and other public facing staff like shop workers.

The policy was obviously set to save life's and protect the NHS. I do think a standby list should be created at each centre. It's important that vaccine is not wasted.

Its just sad that this creates bad feelings and its not right that people are 'blasé' about getting a jab early on social media.

noblegiraffe · 07/02/2021 21:35

I heard that my mate who is super high up in the NHS is using their powers to bump pub staff up the list so that they can get pubs open sooner.

Anyone can post whatever they like on here.

Shadeelane · 07/02/2021 22:32

Exactly. What a load of tut. It isn't happening with teachers ffs. Nothing is happening with teachers. Good grief. 😑😑😑

The good news is that these are now being investigated. Hopefully the NHS and teaching staff will be face the consequences of their misconduct and inability to keep quiet about it. They just keep on sharing this crap and it’s being found out.

The reason there is so much control over the cohorts is because there is just enough vaccine in any given week for the defined cohorts.
