Are teachers getting invites for Vaccination?

I've seen a few posts now where teachers have been invited for a vaccine (outside of the given order stated by the JCVI ).

Has a decision been made to include teachers in one of the higher groups?

Some local authorities are now offering jabs for teacher assistants and teachers who work with children needing personal care. DH works with high need children and had his jab on Friday. However, this depends on local authorities. I'm in London and the local authority where I work is not offering this yet, but neighboring LA do (where DH works).

I do agree that those in SEND schools should be prioritised.

It's also important to acknowledge however that many mainstream schools have children with pretty severe needs at times. My own infant school regular has children who need changing, who aren't toilet trained, who have needs which means they spit and bite, and who need a lot of hands on personal care. This is generally only one or two per year group at most, and the personal care such as toileting does often reduces as they move up the school.

But even in some mainstream schools the personal care can be a big part of the job. And obviously there is no social distancing in infants anyway, it's just not workable or possible.

However, I still believe the profession in general should come after the 1-9 priority groups.

Once we are into the rest of the population however, I do feel that this work places where social distancing isn't possible (rather than just not being adhered too - in those cases the business owners should be being taken to task by the authorities) such as such as in schools and the police, etc. Or those who are key workers and who regularly work with the vulnerable groups.

It's not just in SEND school. DH is responsible for handling children who are violent in his mainstream school - some with hit, bite, throw chairs, etc. He is fully trained on how to kindly and gently approach them at a close distance and sometimes has to physically control them. Those children are in mainstream schools, not special schools.

So he was offered the jab. Many children displaying that kind of behaviour are in mainstream schools.
