I’m seeing this as a thing on social media.

Yes - I have various ECv family/friends.
I only double mask in a taxi (during the period we were in tier 3 and 4) and when o had to go to an a and e - I was double masked.
Been some interesting articles about it recently. apple.news/AZl4Er_6QToW7x00korBHBw

@CoffeeandCroissant I don't understand the angst? I suspect it's mainly because we're all a bit bored, but seriously who cares how other people wear their mask(s) as long as they're wearing one (if they are able to).

No one is forcing this on anyone else. Why all the huffing and puffing about what "they" are trying to do.

I guess masks have just become a symbol of the misery of living through a pandemic.

WalrusWife · 31/01/2021 22:03

I use an anal plug to prevent Covid getting in through my bum. Better safe than sorry. 😷

Yes it is bloody miserable wearing one mask for hours and hours. I dread to think what will happen now some people think one mask is not enough.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/01/2021 22:04

@WalrusWife won’t that be a problem if we adopt the Chinese way of testing?! 😬

Did you read the thread about the up you bum covid test? You would have to remove your anal pog for that.
Throwaway99 · 31/01/2021 22:06

plug* no idea what an anal pog is.

abitofpeace · 31/01/2021 22:08

I’m nearly suffocating wearing one mask so three would be awful.

YogaLite · 31/01/2021 22:09

I made 6 layer masks for us as I think some of the fabric masks we see are way too flimsy.

ChairinSage · 31/01/2021 22:10

Goodness. No. Has this become some sort of race to be the most virtuous? "I care even more than you do. You can tell by my double mask. By only wearing one, you're less caring than me".

AnnaMagdalena · 31/01/2021 22:12

@WalrusWife

What next, seal your mouth up with duct tape?
Don't suggest this, as some people will start doing it...

One mask is one more than I want to wear, thank you.

PicsInRed · 31/01/2021 22:12

What if I wear 3 masks, then pop my nose out the top? Pragmatic virtuosity?

jambeforeclottedcream · 31/01/2021 22:13

No!

The first time I saw it as a thing was at Bidens inauguration.

AnnaMagdalena · 31/01/2021 22:13

@PicsInRed

I pop a full thickness plastic bag over my head and gaffer tape it airtight. It does limit the length of shopping trips - one way or the other - but I've never felt safer. 🌈
This reminds me of MN in Ye Olden Days.

The best thing I have read on here in a very long time.

@Throwaway99

If I saw someone wearing three masks, I wouldn't think they cared more I would think they were a bit bonkers tbh.
I was wearing a mask in March/April last year and people said I was a bit bonkers...
TrainspottingWelsh · 31/01/2021 22:14

@PicsInRed Grin

I wear 12 under a gas mask. And that's just for click and collect. I wear a full astronaut suit complete with oxygen tanks when I need to go in an actual shop. Anything less is foolhardy and costs lives.

TempsPerdu · 31/01/2021 22:15

Ha no, I wear one, grudgingly, and long for the day I can throw the whole lot on the bonfire.

Chickenqueen · 31/01/2021 22:19

No one is making you do this, if other people want to then leave them to it! Why get so worked up?!

Armi · 31/01/2021 22:21

I have always worn one mask. Went to a supermarket for the first time in ages the other day and wore two - blue medical mask with a cotton one over the top. It didn’t cross my mind that I was being a virtuous show off, I was too busy thinking about how the new variant is more easily spread, which is what I imagine most normal people are thinking about, it being a pandemic and all.
Buzzinwithbez · 31/01/2021 22:22

It would make sense to wear one with a valve to protect you and a cotton one to protect everyone else.

However, I struggle to wear one, but do my best as it helps others feel safer, I certainly won't be doubling up.

Wankerchief · 31/01/2021 22:28

I wear a iir medical one then a three layer cotton one and have dine since may my glasses dont fog up and the fit feels tighter
I wear for 12 hour shifts ( 7 without taking it off) and its fine, im asthmatic and its fine

gratitutesmynewattitude · 31/01/2021 22:29

Not point as I have my massless small children with me mostly. Or will they not catch it down there shortarses

hawtree · 31/01/2021 22:29

No, I only wear one one to meet the legal requirements and even that's a thin single layer mask that is gappy at the sides.

If I was actually vulnerable and wanted to protect myself against getting the virus, I'd opt for a proper FFP3 mask rather than double/triple masking.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 31/01/2021 23:25

Not usually as I prefer to stay away from potential trouble and so unmasked as either in a home safety bubble (and systematically periodically asymptomatic tested) or very far away from others. When outside the bubble in public I wear standard clinical surgery masks as designed for a surgeon to breathe regularly for hours in a high pressure super concentrated setting. Conscious that I prefer when possible to be a part of the solution than cause I rarely put myself in a setting with others wherever whenever possible.

However I can understand how it is a thing particularly amongst the public in USA which is seemingly now split between legacy never masked don’t care/non believers and those that suddenly double mask after the recent leadership change.

I have plentiful FFP2 and N95 masks but find these a little less comfortable to breathe in. I and all family including child have been wearing surgical masks for nearly a year long before they were a thing and before the fake news science nonsense arguments about their utility and purpose in virus mitigation management. Evidently unmasked are not exempt from infection, incubation and “inadvertent” mutating transmission. However obviously masks are not guaranteed protection for all in the community as only protection is to stay away from close proximity to untested unknown possibly infected whenever possible.

RosesAndLemonade · 31/01/2021 23:35

@AuntyClementine

I quadruple mask, or sometimes quintuple in more enclosed settings.
Quintuple? Come on are you even trying?

I wear 12. Including one on my bum
