Forcing vaccination

Just read this on the Beeb

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-55718553

Personally, I think it's outrageous that employees may insist on vaccination and airlines preventing travel.

A communistic approach! Angry

Happy to put yet on my comment . When the evidence is there to support the transmission piece then a more evidence based decision can be made based on evaluating the risk

Inastatus · 02/02/2021 18:20

@Nerdygirl

Sky News headlines earlier today:

The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine may have a "substantial effect" on transmission of coronavirus, and a three-month gap between doses does not lower protection, according to a report.

Tests results by University of Oxford, published in a pre-print report with The Lancet, showed a 67% reduction in positive COVID-19 swabs among those vaccinated.

everythingthelighttouches · 02/02/2021 18:44

OP, you have mentioned that this vaccine is new and so you are concerned about long term side effects.

I think you have also understood that this vaccine has undergone the same amount of testing as any other vaccine once approved? I. e. This vaccine has undergone the same number of “person-days” as any other vaccine?? Or are you referring to Phase 4 ( post approval)?

If so, I’m curious to know if this means you wouldn’t take any newly approved vaccine ??

Would you want to wait a certainty period of time??

Do you distrust the clinical trials process in general?

Finally, on reading your posts, I wondered if you recognise this is a special situation, given the transmissibility of this disease (and its emerging variants) and the morbidity and mortality rate, which has consequently resulted in a global pandemic. Do you not feel this disease requires a particular altruistic action from all people above that which you may be required to have for other new vaccinations?

My adult son is autistic and learning disabled, and lives in supported living. He lacks capacity and becomes very distressed if if anyone tries to do anything to him, so doctors can never really examine him and dental work has to be done under a GA. His house was visited this week by staff from their GP surgery to administer the vaccine. Despite support and encouragement from his support workers who know him well and experienced medical staff, they were not able to safely administer the vaccine.
Presumably lots of you think that his life should be restricted even more than it is already due to disability, because he won't/can't consent to be being vaccinated?

Well, no. Because he would clearly be exempt for genuine medical reasons. His situation is quite different from the 'I won't have the vaccine because it's been rushed/I don't trust it/discrimination/religion etc.
Inastatus · 02/02/2021 19:29

@DietrichandDiMaggio - I think it’s been made quite clear on this thread that people who have genuine medical reasons for not having the vaccination should not have it! We are clearly not including people like your son in this so stop trying to muddy the waters.

@xeniaisasociopath

because only God truly loves and only God can truly set you free.

Fuck off, plenty of people love and are free without your tyrant god.

Wow charming Disgraceful behaviour. What's wrong with people believing in God? I'd rather believe in God than believe that a miracle vaccine will cure the world.
Inastatus · 02/02/2021 20:23

@boomboomboom1000 - do you think God is going to cure the world? I think I’ll put my faith in the scientists - they have a good track record with vaccines.

And there is the problem with the world 👍

Inastatus · 02/02/2021 20:40

@boomboomboom1000 - how exactly do you think God is going to save us from this virus?

pointythings · 02/02/2021 20:42

When people start believing in God and completely abandoning modern medicine, people tend to die. You can have both, you know.

boomboomboom1000 · 02/02/2021 20:42

To be fair I am going to take this bloody vaccine only to get back to some sort of normality and for schools to open so my son can go and see his friends.

However I doubt this vaccine will bring normality back. So the gov can push this onto us but they can't guarantee normality back.

boomboomboom1000 · 02/02/2021 20:45

Oh wow...well I also don't like it other people tell people to f* off because they believe in God.
All opinions should be respected regardless.

Just because you choose to believe in something that doesn't mean others have the right to swear at you.

boomboomboom1000 · 02/02/2021 20:45

That is your opinion...a non believer
JassyRadlett · 02/02/2021 20:47

My personal opinion is that Communism and Dictatorship go hand in hand because Communism is a political/economic system that’s incompatible with human nature (humans and all life compete for resources), so it succumbs to dictatorship because people will always compete to benefit themselves and their family first.

But you know that’s not what the word means, right, and that other authoritarian/totalitarian systems are available?

And that none of them are the same as ‘companies doing what they like’?

That’s why I’m going to have the vaccine too. I do think it will bring normality back though.

If people were as caring as they pretended to be then wouldn't be in this situation. That's what God is: love!

boomboomboom1000 · 02/02/2021 20:51

@Inastatus well the vaccine is here...why hasn't this been given to all front line workers by now including teachers...NHS etc.?

Why aren't schools opening up?

new strains keep on popping up and there's always an excuse.

Inastatus · 02/02/2021 21:01

@boomboomboom1000 The vaccine programme only started in December and over 10 million jabs have already been given to the most vulnerable people in our society. I think that’s pretty miraculous!

Louisa7747 · 02/02/2021 21:08

@Inastatus give them a chance! Our vaccine roll out is going really well so far, the speed is astonishing. Give it a few more months and they will have vaccinated everyone who wants one. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Louisa7747 · 02/02/2021 21:09

Sorry I tagged the wrong person! @Inastatus I agree it’s miraculous! @boomboomboom1000 give them a chance Smile
