How long do you think the public majority (IRL) will put up with this for?

How long do you think public opinion and action will continue to support not seeing friends and family?
I’m asking based on your real life experiences (not mumsnet views)
I’m not after ‘I’m giving up my life for as long as it takes’ views here, or ‘I’m happy watching tv and hugging my yoga mat for years.
I’m asking for realistic views of 2021 and public opinion as the year goes on.

I think the majority of people will continue to follow the rules for as long as it takes tbh. There is a minority who are choosing to ignore the rules already, and they will continue to do so. I guess their number may swell as time goes on, but most people I know are fundamentally decent and will continue to be responsible.

OverTheRainbow88 · 31/01/2021 17:04

Most people I know are being careful and sensible but not following all the rules

skoobysnax · 31/01/2021 17:07

I think by May patience will be wearing very thin

Caramel81 · 31/01/2021 17:07

I think the majority will keep following the rules but maybe 10% of the population will just do what they want when their parents and grandparents etc have been vaccinated

tatutata · 31/01/2021 17:12

I don't really have an option. I can hardly break into the swimming pool, or turn up at school and demand my child is educated. And I can't go on holiday with my mum in the UK if they set up roadblocks and checks and fine us £200 each for living our damn lives.
I do t agree with the withdrawal of freedoms that many people died to establish over centuries. There is a price to that too. But in answer to your question, as I'm a law abiding citizen, I will carry on doing whatever bollocks I'm told.

inquietant · 31/01/2021 17:13

I will follow the rules until the scientists say they are not required, unless I really struggle with it.

I think most people will do that, and a smaller percentage won't follow the rules.

I don't understand why 'as long as it takes' is not considered in the category of 'realistic views' Grin

Fuckinlonely · 31/01/2021 17:14

The lockdown lovers will comply until things start effecting them financially. Hopefully they are in the minority and the resistance is rising.

inquietant · 31/01/2021 17:15

Yep, that's right, anyone who complies is a 'lockdown lover' Hmm

I fucking hate it!

MrsMercedes · 31/01/2021 17:16

well it will all be in our homes and gardens so not that great.....i'd prefer to wait until pubs and restaurants are open again i think

rookiemere · 31/01/2021 17:17

I am following the rules, but once my DPs are 3 weeks after their second vaccine - 3rd week of April - I will be going to see them regardless of what rules are in place. But tbh I could go and see them today and say it was for essential care.

By Easter I will be actively encouraging DS 14 to play football outside with his mates, if he's not allowed to do so by then.

Not really bothered about seeing people inside as we've made do with outside walks through freezing January so can continue to see outside.

I really want to see our relatives in England. If Scotland has tighter rules than England and is still trying to stop people going across the border by Easter, but if it's possible to stay in a hotel in England, I'd be keen to go across anyway.

Agree!

OhioOhioOhio · 31/01/2021 17:20

I don't know. Am so fed up.

colouringindoors · 31/01/2021 17:22

I think the majority of people will continue to follow the rules tbh. But i think people's levels of motivation and mental wellbeing will continue to deteriorate.

Lissy23 · 31/01/2021 17:23

I think most people will stop following restrictions so rigidly once hospital rates and deaths have fallen, public opinion will start to change massively at that point. At the moment it’s mainly the fear keeping people compliant to a greater degree.
I therefore think we’ll see a change in April/May. Maybe sooner. But definitely Springtime.

Mousehole10 · 31/01/2021 17:23

In real life, all my friends and family are continuing with the in public rules, but people are slowly starting to break the not seeing family rule. We will be breaking that rule by March and seeing family. By the sounds of it that’s what most others I know are doing too if they haven’t already.

Thislittlefinger123 · 31/01/2021 17:24

We'll keep following the rules until at least Easter. If schools don't reopen by then then I think we might start to socialise outside with some of DCs friends.

littlepeas · 31/01/2021 17:26

I don’t know. Most people I know are quietly getting on with it - everyone seems to have shrunk into their smaller world. I think that once the vulnerable are vaccinated and it starts to get warmer people will gradually start to emerge, regardless of official rules.

Parker231 · 31/01/2021 17:27

I think most people understand that the lockdown is here for a purpose and that the more often that social distancing is breached, the higher the chance of the transmission rate increasing again and lockdown continuing.

Meredithgrey1 · 31/01/2021 17:29

I disagree that the majority will follow the rules for as long as it takes. I’m sure some will of course, but I reckon a significant number of people will ignore them once their parents/grandparents are vaccinated. I know they shouldn’t, but it wouldn’t remotely surprise me.

Nerdygirl · 31/01/2021 17:32

The economy will be irreparable if it goes on past q2/q3 of this year and the nhs will suffer more due to loss taxation. The goals posts keep moving which is the problem , flatten the curve , then bring down cases, then vulnerable being vaccinated now it feels like it’s everyone needs to be vaccinated. I think when the vulnerable are vaccinated many more will start questioning the rules

MyHeroMakkaPakka · 31/01/2021 17:33

I think as more people get vaccinated, there will be less compliance with distancing etc. Especially once people start getting second doses.

SeldomFollowedIt · 31/01/2021 17:34

Once people are vaccinated they will loosen up with their own family circles. You cannot keep families apart for any real length of time.

Once we are all vaccinated I’ll never follow the rules again and I will visit my family whenever I want.

I’m done.

PicsInRed · 31/01/2021 17:35

There are riots in Europe, and there will be riots here as soon as the sun comes out. British people don't riot in the cold.

rookiemere · 31/01/2021 17:39

I don't understand what as long as it takes means. Does it mean zero covid?

As long as it takes. Most peeps aren't stupid, they can see what's going on.
