Teacher bashing has become a national sport.

Great article. Accurate too!

ktjb39 · 31/01/2021 08:13

A brilliant article. I've been a teacher for over 15 years and to see my colleagues continually questioned and undermined by parents has just gone too far. I am glad to see how supportive and involved parents are don't get me wrong, but I think for the first time it has been clear to parents what children actually do learning wise and how much work goes into keeping them motivated. Please let teachers do the job they have been trained to do. We love teaching and as I have recently reminded my colleagues they are there to teach the children not to answer to the parents.

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:22

”When children do go back, they are going to need teachers to educate them.”

The dc are supposed to be being educated by the Teachers now.

Instead we have understandably frustrated Parents doing both their own job and that of the Teachers too.

But let’s give the Teachers a big pat on the back anyway!

ItsLoisSangersFault · 31/01/2021 08:22
Hmm

Teacher here. The 'MSM' i consume is consistently pro teacher so I'm not sure what you normally read? People who say MSM tend to rely on Facebook and certain sub-Reddits for news they consider accurate.

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:23

Parent bashing has become a National Sport more like.

4/10. Please try harder.

You call that feedback?

Try harder how, exactly?

OP, there is no point starting threads like this as it always turns into people making catty little comments like the one above.
For some reason, individual teachers are held responsible for the union’s decisions, the government’s decisions, the decisions of their SLT regarding what their school is doing, the decisions for OTHER school’s SLT... I can literally only control the standard of provision I give to my key worker children, who I am teaching face to face full time, and the support I give to the children in my class who are at home. I can’t fix anything else for anybody else.

Itisasecret · 31/01/2021 08:28

I saw this on Twitter. People directed others to @MNHQ as a prime example of this sport. The reputation of some proceeds itself.

But do have time to go around attacking Parents without explanation.
year5teacher · 31/01/2021 08:32

@babyitscovidinsideandoutside
I’m not obligated to give you feedback on your unkind comments.
Try harder to understand that teachers are, shockingly, teaching their classes at the moment. Please also try and understand that “teachers” as a profession aren’t responsible for whatever provision you’re getting from your child’s school.

So why Post giving arbitrary 4/10?

year5teacher · 31/01/2021 08:35

Please point me to where I attacked anyone in that comment - let alone parents? You made an unpleasant and catty comment, so now you’re resorting to saying I am “attacking parents”, who I didn’t even mention. Hmm

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:35

Maybe try harder to stop defending situations that are apparently out of your control?

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:35

You are directly attacking me re my general comment!

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:36

If you are taking it personally maybe you need to step back.

MSM is a chemical compound isn't it?

I wouldn't bash teachers, they have a very hard job and, much as I like kids, I would not want to do it. It's stressful and there are so many rules and pressures.

At the moment it must be terrible being in a freezing cold environment, wearing a mask, trying to teach (& babysit), a few kids who would rather not be there. Then there's the zoom teaching for those at home.....

A friend of mine gave up her teaching job at the beginning of the last lockdown, at the end of the term. She was on a contract and just didn't renew it. She took her own children out of school and she and her husband have been at home with them since. It seems to be working quite well; they live fairly rurally so there is plenty of pleasant outside space for the children (9&12 I think). However, not everyone is able to do that; I think a lot would if they had the choice.

You need to take your own advice here.

Not sure it's year5 who needs to step back. She isn't posting increasingly numerous and am somewhat aggressive posts.

Ok. Hmm Or perhaps you should think twice about making a totally sweeping statement about a profession as a whole. If you’re unhappy with what you’re getting from your child’s school then it’s quite possible they’re not providing enough. One of the issues is that the government hasn’t really set any standardised guidance for what schools need to provide - they’ve said you need X hours of home learning but not what format it needs to be in. I know there’s schools which definitely aren’t doing enough and I would urge you to raise it if you’re not happy.
However, while you basically say teachers aren’t doing their jobs - the vast majority of us quite literally are. I’m in school, teaching a smaller class their normal curriculum every day. I don’t know how much more teaching I could be doing, frankly.

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:43

You gave a poor mark to me for my general comment without any explanation, you were just attacking me because you are unable to help the general situation beyond your own level of responsibility.

Fair enough your own personal power is limited but no need to attack a Parent on a Parenting website. It’s not Teachersnet after all!

So very true. Thankfully most parents appreciate what teachers are doing despite how difficult it is. I emailed my dc teachers to say Thankyou and they were really greatful.

Retired teacher here. MSM is commonly used on sites with a political slant. Maybe you should widen your web browsing. What an odd thing to pick up on.
