Teacher bashing has become a national sport.

OP posts:
babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:45

I have raised with our school and was roundly fobbed off.

The guidelines are the national curriculum surely?

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:47

@year5teacher

Ok. Hmm Or perhaps you should think twice about making a totally sweeping statement about a profession as a whole. If you’re unhappy with what you’re getting from your child’s school then it’s quite possible they’re not providing enough. One of the issues is that the government hasn’t really set any standardised guidance for what schools need to provide - they’ve said you need X hours of home learning but not what format it needs to be in. I know there’s schools which definitely aren’t doing enough and I would urge you to raise it if you’re not happy. However, while you basically say teachers aren’t doing their jobs - the vast majority of us quite literally are. I’m in school, teaching a smaller class their normal curriculum every day. I don’t know how much more teaching I could be doing, frankly.
If you actually read my posts what I said was Parents are doing both their own Jobs and the Teachers jobs at the moment so Parents are understandably frustrated!

Your posts baby are a prime example of why MNHQ were being tagged in this article on Twitter last night.

Your posts are very aggressive.

Aggressive? How?
babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 08:51

I haven’t seen the Twitter article, link please?

DumplingsAndStew · 31/01/2021 08:54

Those who say parents are doing the job of a teacher at the moment generally have no idea of what a teacher's job entails. The face to face teaching is only a part of it.

WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 08:54

Instead we have understandably frustrated Parents doing both their own job and that of the Teachers too. But let’s give the Teachers a big pat on the back anyway!

This is what you said baby. I’m trying to do my job whilst making sure my 7 & 9 year old learn at home. It’s incredibly stressful but it’s not the teachers fault.

@year5teacher

Have you seen this document?

This plus the National Curriculum.

Online provision is a legal obligation now, this has been announced since October 2020 in force January 2021.

year5teacher · 31/01/2021 08:55

No, the guidelines aren’t in the national curriculum. The national curriculum doesn’t say anything about online provision, it’s what topics are taught in different year groups.
I did read your post. You said “parents are doing teachers’ jobs”, implying that teachers aren’t doing their own jobs. I’m explaining to you that that’s not the case. Parents are run ragged at the moment, and I don’t envy them one bit. That doesn’t mean that teachers aren’t doing their jobs. You can make a comment about how you are exhausted and finding home learning hard, or are not happy with your individual school’s provision, without making a nasty little comment saying “let’s give teachers a big pat on the back anyway!!”
I’m sorry, but if you’re going to basically hold an entire profession to blame for your situation, then you’re going to get people challenging it. As I said, individual teachers really have no influence in what’s happening. We can only do our absolute best for the children in our care.

Anyway, I’ve said all I need to say. Have a good Sunday regardless!

What a nasty thing to write and the bullying of year5teacher on this thread speaks volumes.

It was, however, well timed to highlight the exact point the article is making Grin

You have misinterpreted what I said.

Why are Teachers any more deserving than anyone else?

@year5teacher

It’s a Pandemic and it’s a National effort.

converseandjeans · 31/01/2021 08:59

itisasecret what was the Twitter thread?

babyitscovid I just leave my kids to access the work set. I don't teach' content. I'm online teaching all day so can't teach my own children. I suppose it depends on their ages though. But I don't expect parents to teach the work I am setting. The students should be able to work like they do in class.

WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 09:00

Parents are doing their best as are the Teachers as are everyone else!

baby if you acknowledge teachers are doing their best - what was the sarcastic “let’s give teachers a pay on the back” all about?

Parents are doing a fantastic job, it’s seriously stressful having kids at home for distance learning.

As my previous post.

starrynight19 · 31/01/2021 09:02

year5teacher at no point has she said teachers are more deserving. You are projecting your feelings about teachers on to her.

WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 09:02

Why are Teachers any more deserving than anyone else?

They aren’t, we had the prime minister take to nation television to thank parents for their efforts with distance learning.

An apt little quote from the original article:

Per the proverb, the noisiest parents have the emptiest heads, heads that are far too empty to cope with the demands of a PGCE, followed by the brutal work schedule NQTs are faced with for a lot less money than they make.

Another dig at Parents right here.
Itisasecret · 31/01/2021 09:06

Threads, so under retweets and things of this article, people were tagging MNTowers as a prime example of the sport. It was quite apt when you see how this thread has gone.

Kitcat122 · 31/01/2021 09:06

Please remember lots of us teaching staff have our own children too! I cover keyworker classes all day then go home and help my children with their learning too. The children in my class are getting much more of my time than my own children.

starrynight19 · 31/01/2021 09:07

I am confused with what your issue is @babyitscovidinsideandoutside. I meant year5teacher didn’t say teachers were more deserving. But you are now agreeing that they are ?
Is it the article you disagree with or the provision in your school ?
