Teacher bashing has become a national sport.

I suppose we should thank baby for proving the point.

Lots and lots of teachers are actually parents. It’s not one or the other.

YeOldeTrout · 31/01/2021 09:08

I wonder how many teachers will decline the jab and be stigmatised by their colleagues if they let that be none (or are force to make it public).

I wonder if teachers will be so supportive of each other then.

YeOldeTrout · 31/01/2021 09:08

none=known, oops

year5teacher · 31/01/2021 09:08

...more deserving of what?
I never said teachers are more deserving of anything. You’re coming out with comments that have nothing to do with what I’ve said. I haven’t misinterpreted your post, you’re just backtracking because people are disagreeing with you.

Saoirse7 · 31/01/2021 09:09

It was from the thread @babyitscovidinsideandoutside. If you felt it was applicable to you then perhaps that is telling.

itsgettingweird · 31/01/2021 09:11

Good article.

And please people don't let's allow another person who will try and become every 3rd post with an aggressive tone take this over. Ignore ignore ignore.

Teachers deserve more than allowing it to be derailed.

I'm not a teacher. And I wouldn't want to be one either!

ChloeDecker · 31/01/2021 09:11

@Kitcat122

Please remember lots of us teaching staff have our own children too! I cover keyworker classes all day then go home and help my children with their learning too. The children in my class are getting much more of my time than my own children.
Same here. I haven’t put my own in as keyworker children because the school doesn’t start till 9am and yet I have to be available at 8:10am to do live online registration for my own pupils (Secondary). So whilst my own is pretty much just watching telly all day whilst I do lesson after lesson live to my own pupils, it does grate when petty criticism comes my way from parents about my live lessons, feedback I am giving their pupils and the latest one ‘how dare I be fully booked for parents evening next week already’ as if it’s my fault Hmm
WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 09:12

Yes that’s my point

I’ll be honest baby I’m struggling to understand your point.

Initially you wrote a sarcastic “let’s give the teachers a pat on the back” that made it look like you think all teachers are underperforming.

Then you followed it up with “why are teachers more deserving deserving than anyone else”
This made it sound like teachers are being congratulated on their hard work and everyone else’s efforts are being ignored. I pointed out that parents have been thanked by the prime minister recently, so clearly that isn’t true.

As I said I’m a bit baffled by the tone of your posts.

itsgettingweird · 31/01/2021 09:12

@DumplingsAndStew

Those who say parents are doing the job of a teacher at the moment generally have no idea of what a teacher's job entails. The face to face teaching is only a part of it.
Plus those parents forget they are doing it with their own children only. Not 30 different children all from different home lives.
babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 09:13

What is telling on this Thread is the number of Teachers piling on one Parent.

Teachers are so defensive.

Why can’t Parents have an opinion that everyone is working hard and so some Teachers are unreasonable to expect a special medal for that?

Saoirse7 · 31/01/2021 09:14

Anyway, this again is proof why I'm retraining and getting out of teaching. Too many dickheads with the experience of having attended school trying to tell us how to do our jobs.

I love teaching, I love the kids and the job satisfaction. However, that is grossly outweighed by workload, working hours (evenings and weekends) and unreasonable parents.

Because you didn’t say some teachers, teachers weren’t asking for a medal in the first place and yes, anyone would respond to your offensive posts calling you out, hence both teachers and parents (I.e parents who are not teachers) have responded to you.

Teachers consistently seem to be of the opinion that they are working harder than everyone else?

My experience as a Parent as shown again on this Thread is that actually many Teachers that post on Mumsnet think the Parents have it easier because “they only Teach their own children” when actually we have our own jobs too!!

There is more to life than Teaching, even in a Pandemic.

You are stated that teachers aren't doing their job. You came in and were aggressive and antagonistic. Now you're playing the sympathy card. 🥱

You’re arguing with yourself at this point. No one has “expected a special medal” - you’ve said parents are doing teachers’ jobs and made sarcastic comments saying “let’s praise teachers anyway”.

What didn’t happen is you saying “oh yes everyone is working hard”, and then a load of teachers came and said “NO! ONLY teachers are working hard!!”

I’m actually the one who has said it’s been hard for parents AND teachers. All I’ve done is point out that we are teaching children, when you implied that isn’t happening. You’re the one making targeted comments towards teachers - basically no one is saying the same thing about parents.

It’s not a pile on when you’re still making comments like this, but I don’t want you to end up being upset, so let’s just draw a line under it now.

WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 09:19

Why can’t Parents have an opinion that everyone is working hard and so some Teachers are unreasonable to expect a special medal for that?

Because I haven’t seen any teacher ask for a medal. Why would you assume that saying people in group A are working hard automatically means that people in group B are slacking?

No ones said anything about parents. They’ve said supporting your child to learn at home is incredibly difficult. But not that parents are doing a bad job.

WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 09:23

And this was said where? I seriously doubt anyone would claim teaching kids is as easy as working on a Covid ward.

starrynight19 · 31/01/2021 09:23

A very valid point in the article about the Us4them group and the media coverage they have had including meetings with the government in comparison to the much larger group parentsunited who have had much less media coverage never mind a meeting.

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 09:26

The article that this Thread is about says Teacher Bashing has become a National Sport.

I am not upset, just frustrated like many Parents that some Teachers think they are more deserving than anyone else because they are apparently working so hard.

We are all working hard, Teachers are not a special case.

Parent Bashing on Mumsnet is participated in by many Teachers though!

motherrunner · 31/01/2021 09:28

Can I have a medal as I’m teacher and a parent? 😃

starrynight19 · 31/01/2021 09:29

I think you will find every teacher on here will agree with this absolutely.

Some Teachers are saying they are sick of complaints from Parents because they (the Teachers) are doing their best.

All I am saying is some Parents are frustrated too.

No, mother. You can abuse yourself to save everyone else having to.
