Teacher bashing has become a national sport.

@motherrunner

Can I have a medal as I’m teacher and a parent? 😃
You can have at least two Medals 😁

But so can I 🤣

WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 09:32

We are all working hard, Teachers are not a special case

I give up. No one has said teachers are a special case.

Parent Bashing on Mumsnet is participated in by many Teachers though!

I’m off to trawl mumsnet to read threads started by teachers attacking parents. Should keep my busy, I’m sure there’s hundreds of such threads. Hmm

@YeOldeTrout

I wonder how many teachers will decline the jab and be stigmatised by their colleagues if they let that be none (or are force to make it public).

I wonder if teachers will be so supportive of each other then.

Teachers are not being vaccinated as an employment group so it'll be ages before most get offered it. If anyone wants to refuse the vaccine, they can. I'm fairly sure you can't force anyone to make public their vaccine status.

I'm not quite sure what point you're making here, to be honest.

Excellent example of my favourite kind of , ahem, thread enthusiasm.

Aggressive first post to OP (who was expressing relief at some much needed public support).

Then we have faux naivety, demands for others to do research for them (‘link please’), backtracking. Text book. And all in under an hour!

‘The dc are supposed to be being educated by the Teachers now.

Instead we have understandably frustrated Parents doing both their own job and that of the Teachers too.

But let’s give the Teachers a big pat on the back anyway!’

‘8:23 Parent bashing has become a National Sport more like.
If you are taking it personally maybe you need to step back.’

‘It’s not Teachersnet after all!’

‘Aggressive? How?’

‘I haven’t seen the Twitter article, link please?’

‘Parents are doing their best as are the Teachers as are everyone else!’

‘Why are Teachers any more deserving than anyone else?’

‘Teachers are so defensive.

‘Why can’t Parents have an opinion that everyone is working hard and so some Teachers are unreasonable to expect a special medal for that?’

‘Teachers consistently seem to be of the opinion that they are working harder than everyone else?’

‘There is more to life than Teaching, even in a Pandemic.’

‘We are all working hard, Teachers are not a special case.

‘Parent Bashing on Mumsnet is participated in by many Teachers though!’

MrsHamlet · 31/01/2021 09:38

Lovely to see you miles

Exactly, Parent Bashing at its finest! 😁

How many Medals would you like?

🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅🏅

ChloeDecker · 31/01/2021 09:40

I am not upset, just frustrated like many Parents that some Teachers think they are more deserving than anyone else because they are apparently working so hard.
No teacher has said this, hence you making up nonsense to, yes, teacher bash is being challenged in a fair way.

You could have, instead, contributed to this thread by making your point about some frustrated parents without resorting to insults.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 31/01/2021 09:42

at @MrsHamlet 👋

year5teacher · 31/01/2021 09:45

I feel like it would be so much easier to just say “you know what, sorry, I’m struggling with what I’ve been given by my child’s school and I was angry, fair enough none of you have said all this shit I’m pretending you have”. I would just think yep, fair play, we’ve all been there.
But instead it’s just doubling down and posting more unreasonable accusations and then just a bunch of emojis...

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/01/2021 09:45

@babyitscovidinsideandoutside Where are all the parent bashing threads? Link please!

Saoirse7 · 31/01/2021 09:46

Mumsnet is usually full of teacher bashing, @babyitscovidinsideandoutside has been plugging away for an hr or so without anyone else coming in to back her so that's something I suppose.

Fwiw, SOME teachers who aren't pulling their weight deserve to be bashed. Also, parents who act like dicks also deserve to be bashed. I've experienced both in my career.

All joking aside, I hope you don't treat your children's teachers like this in real life.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 31/01/2021 09:49

It's bonkers isn't it.

I actually had to withdraw my son from school because of one teacher (backed up by the head).

But, somehow, I'm still not angry with ALL TEACHERS.

Mindblowing, I know.

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 09:53

@Saoirse7

Anyway, this again is proof why I'm retraining and getting out of teaching. Too many dickheads with the experience of having attended school trying to tell us how to do our jobs.

I love teaching, I love the kids and the job satisfaction. However, that is grossly outweighed by workload, working hours (evenings and weekends) and unreasonable parents.

@sorearse7

This is Parent Bashing too.

How can people disagree whilst also admitting they don’t understand the points?

Shakes Head and wanders off to do something more interesting instead

year5teacher · 31/01/2021 10:00

It’s not parent bashing, it’s quite rightly saying that the minority of parents who think it’s ok to throw around statements about how teachers are so entitled and think they’re the only ones who work can make you feel negatively towards your job.

It’s absolutely insane that you consider yourself the victim here. I’ve tried to be fairly nice to you but honestly, reflect on the way you’ve acted here and then consider if you actually are the one who’s been “attacked”.

toria658 · 31/01/2021 10:02

If those parents who wish to improve educational opportunities for their children did so in consultation with and empathy for teachers, the children would benefit enormously.

As it is, many parents appear to be educational experts because they once went to school. I once went and gave evidence in court, doesn’t make me a lawyer. Time for parents to be a bit kinder to teachers the only people who suffer in the teacher bashing is the students. Teachers and parents working together, now that would be a powerful movement.

It is not teachers fault that parents are struggling with home school and their own job, it is not the fault of teachers there is a pandemic, it is not teachers fault there is a lockdown.

Radio4Rocks · 31/01/2021 10:02

Still waiting for a link to a parent bashing thread.

Let's stop feeding it, people.

OP posts:
MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 31/01/2021 10:03

I could start one?

Bloody parents thinking they know... erm... er...

I'll get back to you.

(Also, I'm not a teacher).

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 10:04

@Saoirse7

An apt little quote from the original article:

Per the proverb, the noisiest parents have the emptiest heads, heads that are far too empty to cope with the demands of a PGCE, followed by the brutal work schedule NQTs are faced with for a lot less money than they make.

This is a quote from the article the Thread is about, again from @sorearse7

@year5teacher

Parent Bashing.

Nowhere does it say a few or even a minority of Parents.

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 10:05

Poor Teachers and those Nasty Parents!

WhenSheWasBad · 31/01/2021 10:06

Still waiting for a link to a parent bashing thread

I found a good Boris bashing one. Shockingly none bashing Gavin Williamson.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 31/01/2021 10:08

That's because he's hiding in a cupboard

MrsHamlet · 31/01/2021 10:08

@babyitscovidinsideandoutside if you're going to try to tag Saoirse you might want to spell her name properly.
Or maybe your misspelling is deliberate...

babyitscovidinsideandoutside · 31/01/2021 10:09

The article says it is about Teacher Bashing has become a National Sport.

The reality is the article is about not so covert Parent Bashing.

The problem is that most people will read it as Parents are unreasonable.

As a PP mentioned maybe read and share something of higher quality.

Flipflops85 · 31/01/2021 10:10

I’m a parent, a teacher and a human.

I’m personally on my knees, but acknowledge many parents, HCPs and many other KWs are too. The fact that other people are struggling too, doesn’t change the fact I’m leaving in July. I’m done.

Parents who make sweeping judgements about my profession as a whole, make my job harder. This is not all parents.

I don’t want a medal for my parenting or my teaching. I’d like more respect from the government though. That would help.
