It’s amazing and did you notice, one of those 5 areas (Calderdale) has a difference of only one case between last week and this?

Pomegranatespompom · 31/01/2021 18:36

Sorry I wobbled earlier - but don’t think I posted anything worrying. @FourTeaFallOut facilitated some calmness.

FourTeaFallOut · 31/01/2021 18:45

Before I get any credit there, I think I may have also been the oil on the fire. Blush

Let's just get back on it, this thread has come back from worse.

OrangeBananaFish · 31/01/2021 18:48

Love that vaccination counter. It's on 9.6 million for the UK. Is that correct? Wow. We're getting there. Well a few more hours and January is over, just another month of (what I believe will be) our darkest time in all this. Hopefully.

NothingIsWrong · 31/01/2021 18:50

@FuzzyPuffling sorry that came across wrong - I wear one now, as it's the law - I just don;t think the law should continue once everyone is protected.

Should have said

"I won't wear a mask inside FOREVER...."

Right now I put up and shut up

FuzzyPuffling · 31/01/2021 19:00

Ha ha Nothingiswrong. I don't think anyone wants to wear a mask a second longer than is absolutely necessary.

Varifocals are a pain..the mask shoves the lenses into the wrong place.

FuzzyPuffling · 31/01/2021 19:01

And our community shop really is "no mask, no entry". But you can call ahead and get them to put your order in a bag outside!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 31/01/2021 19:21

Thank you littleowlSmile Only 5 red councils left! Brilliant 🥳

Yes I noticed one council only has one case difference to change it. The other four all have less than 30 I think too. So that bar will hopefully go green very very soon❤

I wear glasses too and hate masks. Tried everything and still fog up eventually. Now I just take them off going around the supermarket.

It turns food shopping into a dangerous sport. Those displays and other people need to watch out. I can't see a thing past metre 😂😂😂

BBCONEANDTWO · 31/01/2021 19:44

@littleowl1 great news - this lockdown seems to be working and the vaccinations will help even more. Feeling so happy.

It’s wonderful isn’t it? To see a count of people being protected from this damned virus climb up and up and up. Case numbers are coming down and the mass vaccination won’t even have had a chance to really impact those numbers yet. Just think where we will be in a few weeks’ time. It’s truly remarkable.

Flowers to all of you lovely people on here

Blerg · 31/01/2021 20:20

To anyone fogging up their glasses - I tried a lot of ways around it. I am ver short sighted and can’t take my glasses off without fear of losing sight of DS. Now I tape my mask on with normal double sided sticky tape. Over the bridge if my nose, with a disposable mask. Which I feel bad about but needs must. Lifesaver.

I wondered about sharing this because it’s potentially divisive but I learned a very belated lesson on mental health and MN. Basically, I have PMDD with terrible weeks of low mood and depression. In a low point, in about 2018, I chanced across a thread on MN about the risk of a no deal Brexit, and the awful civil unrest, food shortages, power outages, job losses that posters were sure would happen. It really got to me and I was living in genuine fear for months. I am a highly educated, rational person, but it just sent me mad in a vulnerable moment and I went completely off the deep end and had very very dark thoughts. It went on for months and months and I was convinced my life and my kids lives were ruined. Obviously no deal didn’t come to pass so you could say that could have all happened, but it taught me a lot about the extremes of opinion you can find in the news and on forums in particular. I have made a very conscious effort not to allow this to happen again with Covid . This thread is a huge help. I am now much more careful with thinking is it news or opinion; about not doom scrolling, and self care. Papers want you to be scared, and so do some posters. Some people are terrified themselves and they are sharing their anxiety but it can turn into a giant cluster of fear, and gets taken advantage of by cynical people who casually say devastating things.

Sorry for the long ramble. Hope it’s not too miserable- I honestly mean to help and remind people not to let their guard down mental health wise.

Great post and thanks for sharing - I actually had feelings of panic at the start of what would happen after Brexit - so you're not alone.

Sorry just to add, I am a remainer and it seems Brexit is not ideal for many and I’m not aiming to minimise that. But it wasn’t the end of days / Mad Max / quick buy some weapons scenario that some people were hell bent on!

I kept imaging the electric was gonna go out and we'd be trying to get into houses that had an open fire - madness.

@BBCONEANDTWO yes, exactly! I have an overactive imagination and it went wild.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 31/01/2021 20:52

Excellent post Blerg
I was similar to you in the early part of last year. Read too much scary threads about covid and was quite unwell. Lost loads of weight as I was too sick to eat.

I think I’m stronger now and take the threads less seriously now.

Hope you too are ok .

I know, I've read that thread and the news articles that it's based on. Now I've run back here for a bit of positivity!!
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 31/01/2021 21:17

Is the thread about the Warwick research?

FuzzyPuffling · 31/01/2021 21:21

Lots of supportive sd hugs for those finding it all specially difficult and thank you for being brave enough to share.
My DH is extremely interested in brexit matters but I refused to talk to.him about it and just hid my head firmly in the sand. It was the only way I could cope.

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum it's the picture of the glamorous woman sneezing! It's not an advert. Does clicking on it work?

I can't see anything attached to your post. Not a picture or a link. Thought you forgot to add it.

Maybe it is my device??

tobee · 31/01/2021 21:47

I was very worried about no deal Brexit and hope I didn't add to anybody else's worry on here. Quite possibly.

I've come to the conclusion that people who are pessimistic will say that they are realistic. They frame it as if they are like this because they are intelligent and have greater insight. Those of us who are optimistic (I would say I'm realistic with optimistic overtones about Covid) are, apparently, basically chuckle headed numpties. But I think actually they are fooling themselves. I think to be pessimistic about everything is actually more akin to superstition than realism. Kidding themselves that if you go around being gloomy that protects themselves from getting a shock if things turn out badly.

Actually, I don't think that there is any logic in this way of thinking. But you could easily think that that is "rightthink".

I'm sure if a "doom muppet" came on here that it would be pretty pointless arguing with them because they are entrenched in their belief.

I've been pessimistic in life for years (like my mum) thinking it would protect me from disappointment. But you often end up never appreciating the good things in life.
