Lots of very positive stats and reports there. Grin

@TeaInTheGarden

This is awesome!!
This is great

How did they find out about transmission? Was that from trials or already with rollout

louisejxxx · 02/02/2021 16:19

@TeaInTheGarden

This is awesome!!
Wow! 💗 That is just absolutely fantastic.
BigWoollyJumpers · 02/02/2021 16:24

I have three brothers, they all called me today to say they are getting their vaccinations this weekend. They are 67, 71 and 73 Shock. Going full steam ahead it would seem, and interestingly, all Friday/Sat. This is in Surrey, Hants and Norwich. Will we have another record breaking weekend ahead?

TeaInTheGarden · 02/02/2021 16:25

@louisejxxx I’m not sure- there was a link with the tweet, I didn’t read it as too excited!

MarshaBradyo · 02/02/2021 16:31

Tea Thank you!

That is fantastic will read later

Those figures are incredible

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/02/2021 16:37

Quick look over it

So seventeen thousand ish participants split between South Africa, Brazil and UK.

That makes it even better news surely

FourTeaFallOut · 02/02/2021 16:39

I thought this was a positive interview with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla from Bloomberg Business:-

I feel like we know something very good right now.

54%!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/02/2021 16:42

Suppose it depends if the variants were about then🤔

Anyway large enough group of participants in areas of high cases

Frazzled2207 · 02/02/2021 16:42

Less than 17,000 positive cases today which is the lowest for ages.
And clear signs downwards in hospitalisations and slightly in deaths. I think during the course of February things are going to change a LOT.

FourTeaFallOut · 02/02/2021 16:42

Rolling average of shots, first and second dose inclusive, is 402k. Do you remember when the Omni calculator laughed at us at 400k and told us to try another figure - in your face Omni calculator.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/02/2021 16:44

Yep

54%

I agree ❤

100 year old Captain Sir Tom Moore has dead. I know this isn't good news but in his daughter's announcement was this:

"The last year of our father's life was nothing short of remarkable. He was rejuvenated and experienced things he'd only ever dreamed of."

You couldn't ask more at 100 for your last year of life could you❤

Had a read through of the paper and am a bit confused about the data on transmission.

Both low dose/standard dose (LDSD) and standard dose/standard dose (SDSD) reduced incidence of symptomatic covid, but there was no impact on asymptomatic disease in the SDSD cohort. Which I would take to mean that combo doesn't stop you getting infected but stops you developing symptoms.

But how does this then relate to this part of the paper, which is used to determine impact on transmission?

"If there was no impact of a vaccine on asymptomatic infection, it would be expected that an efficacious vaccine would simply convert
severe cases to mild cases and mild cases to asymptomatic, with overall PCR positivity unchanged. A measure of overall PCR positivity is appropriate to assess whether there is a reduction in the burden of infection. Analyses presented here show that a single standard dose of the vaccine reduced PCR positivity by 67%, and that, after the second dose, the SD/SD schedule reduced PCR positivity by 49.5% overall. These data indicate that ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, used in the authorised schedules, may have a substantial impact on transmission by reducing the number of infected individuals in the population."

I'm clearly misunderstanding something - can anyone shed any light?

BBCONEANDTWO · 02/02/2021 17:04

@amicissimma

When this first happened I read 'The Plague' by Daniel Defoe - very interesting and gives a real life account of what it was like. People were locked in their houses and guards brought them food etc - it's a really really good read.

I have updated the table of cases in each council in England with today's data release on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage.

We haven't hit the all green table yet but we are still hovering ever so close - 310 "green" councils and 5 "red" councils.

I think we have a good chance to hit an all green table this week. Fingers crossed......

Yesterday, I also updated the following today with the latest NHS data.

Both number of cases in hospital and daily admissions are falling in all regions.

Cases in Hospital:

Daily Hospital Admissions: www.covidmessenger.com/hospital-admissions/

Just seen a headline saying Oxford may reduce transmission by 67%? Confused now!

FuzzyPuffling · 02/02/2021 18:02

tobee I was just coming on to say that too. Well done Ox/AZ.
