What do EU nationals think of the vaccines mess?

Frazzled2207 · 30/01/2021 10:10

I’m a committed remainer. But the EU really did mess up last night. More seriously they are not in a good position right now with regards vaccine supply. Lots of anti-Eu posts here right now from committed remainers like me.

Just wondering what EU citizens make of all this and is there any bad feeling towards the UK? Do you think the EU has a right to some of the UK’s vaccine supply? Are people angry at the fact that the UK was able to secure more vaccines more quickly? Or are we coming across as selfish idiots?
Generally curious and am not here to start an argument

I meant to say Germany Jan 2024

Motorina · 02/02/2021 22:18

There has (rightfully) been criticism on this thread for anyone who has expressed satisfaction at the slowness of the EU rollout, because of the impact on real people and real lives.

So it is somewhat frustrating to read that Merkel says the speed of our rollout "rankles". She would rather that we (and the US) were doing as poorly as the EU is?

It would appear Canada has not received their Phizer vaccines (manufactured In Europe).

@Dongdingdong

My recovering-from-surgery late-80s grandmother and colleague’s 90-something father haven’t even been invited for their first dose. It does seem a bit weird.

@GingerAndTheBiscuits why not just book them in using the NHS website then? Anyone over 70 can book a slot, even if they haven’t had a letter.

Because, as per my full post, they are in Ireland.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/02/2021 22:28

What RANKLES me is the fact that EU have mucked up so much. Therefore Germany have now agreed to put money in Putin's pocket.

Merkel cannot seriously be happy about having to buy vaccine off Russia. Sure her citizens will love that too.

Itscoldouthere · 02/02/2021 22:29

Canada has been having problems getting the Phizer vaccine since the beginning of January, before this EU thing blew up, but it certainly isn’t helping. Vaccination is going very slow here in Canada.

globalnews.ca/news/7607826/canada-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca-approval/

Yes, not good news for Canada - some orders are in, but not sure it's confirmed with AZ as of yet or not (the attached article is dated 29.1.21) but says if approved etc their supply wouldn't be until half way through 2021.

Canada would be ahead of Novovax supply if/when that's approved as Canada have an order in for that and EU still negotiating. So that would be US, UK, Canada and EU still thinking...or have they learned a lesson yet and pulled finger out and investing in production ahead of demanding.

"Should Canada decide to approve the AstraZeneca vaccine, it would set in motion the agreement Canada signed with the company for up to 20 million vaccine doses. Those doses are slated to be delivered in 2021, according to that agreement.

However, a vaccine supply table recently provided by the federal government shows that Canada is not expecting to receive any AstraZeneca vaccines — or any other under-review vaccine — until at least the second quarter of this year."

Canada and saying they need to develop own manufacture going forward.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/02/2021 23:14

Just a thought about all this AZ vaccine not being given to over 65 business

Is it possible that in fact as they will have AZ order delivery anyway a crafty way vaccinate the work force

No country can be seen to vaccinate workers before the elderly and vulnerable. Not if claiming to be humanitarian. However if you discredit a vaccine for use to that group. Well you now can jab the younger healthy citizens without reproach

I know it is a conspiracy theory. Sorry but interesting idea. Suppose we have to see what they do with the AZ vaccine now. Does it go to countries happy to use it on their most in danger or do France etc use it for workers.

DdraigGoch · 02/02/2021 23:17

@tenredthings

I'm an EU citizen and am more worried about the half vaccine dose being administered which risks covid mutating into a version which the vaccine can't touch ! Britain's world beating figures are ridiculous when the vaccine is only half administered. Like building a house with no roof and boasting about how quickly you built it !
I trust the experts. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3777268
Floppywin · 02/02/2021 23:17

Yes, I suggested that bit earlier today in this thread, only reason I can think of.

If it is the case, crafty fuckers!
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/02/2021 00:07

If that is the case not crafty fuckers. Murdering fuckers! It would be up there with the nazis. Let pray nobody would deliberately do such a thing. It gives me chills the more I think about it.

MuddlingMackem · 03/02/2021 00:57

Anyone else now think of Ursula von der Leyen as Ursula fond of Lying?

Just me then. Hmm Grin

MuddlingMackem · 03/02/2021 00:59

It's a very sobering thought that some of you have suggested regarding possible reasons for discrediting the OxAZ jab for over 65s. I really hope that that is just a conspiracy theory. Sad

Me too

Hopefully they are just being vile because of Brexit 🙈

MuddlingMackem · 03/02/2021 01:08

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum, I hope you're right!

Although it's just as concerning that there are so many countries in the EU whose populations are not hugely in favour of vaccines. Even if they get the quantity of jabs they need they may have a tough job getting enough people to accept them. Although I wonder how low vaccination uptake would impact on tourism from other countries.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 03/02/2021 01:38

Maybe once they see us and others open up after vaccination that will change their minds.

I was shocked learn France are expecting to have a low up take. Macron definitely isn't helping that. What on earth does he think will happen when they get more vaccine. He is embedding so much miss trust in it.

The truth is we have all been let down by phizer and its productive problems.
I wonder behind scenes were we all let down equally?
Im stunned how America is behaving i know was trump order but given Canada usa are neighbours and share a border that some could be sent from American production line.
Aa I assumed vaccine distribution be easier by region.

I do wonder what will happen by end march if eu have 40million az will they then vaccinate 40million under 65.
Any idea collectively how many over 65 In Europe with exception if Hungary who are now doing own thing.
I cant imagine most European countries would feel more comfortable with a Russian vaccine over a British one.
Even now rather than instill calm really disappointed Merkel thought she was cool calm head is saying we rushed vaccines and Israel comprised data protection.

Ursula von der liar! Can't believe she randomly disappeared at commission then drive through few different countries to her home in Netherlands whilst in quarantine/ self isolating.

www.politico.eu/article/russia-coronavirus-vaccine-sputnik-v-efficacy-study-lancet-covid19/

Over 90% efficacy and is cheaper than the Phizer and Moderna vaccines.

All vaccines welcome, I say!!

DamnUserName21 · 03/02/2021 05:12

Although not sure about the name though--sounds like a space shuttle or satellite!!!

"Hmmmm, I had the Phizer, what did you have? I had the Sputnik V." Grin

Baileysforchristmas · 03/02/2021 06:26

How long will the Russian one take to approve and order though? While the EU play the blame game the UK are on track to vaccinate all the adult population by August, 2 doses to every adult

How long to approval by the EU? Fuck knows!!!

Been approved by quite a few countries already though.

I think the EC are beyond the blame game now or at least accept responsibility for art16 debacle. Doesn't seem to be any further mention on the being entitled to UK AZ supply. I wonder why....

This thread was seeking out the opinions of EU nationals. Unfortunately the requested EU voices have been shouted down and crowded out by frothing brits with an anti-EU agenda. And now they've reached such a frenzy they're accusing us of seeking to murder our elderly and being nazis.

No further point trying to engage with people who are blinded with hatred. Goodwins law has kicked in.
