Wiping down the food shopping?!?

Anyone else out there still (if you have at all) wiping their food shopping down with bleach/disinfectant etc? I am and I’ve got to say it’s driving me insane but I know it would worry me if I didn’t?!

For the 3rd time in a week, NO!

Realitea · 28/01/2021 00:17

Yep. Have been since March. Weird that I’ll do that yet shop in a supermarket where there’s much more risk but whatever I can do to try to prevent it I guess

I wasn't going to mention it. Grin
DenisetheMenace · 28/01/2021 00:20

Yep , CEV husband. Can’t do any harm, may do some good.

polkadotpixie · 28/01/2021 00:22

Absolutely not. Never have and never will and I've definitely not had COVID as I'm antibody tested every month as part of a research study

DenisetheMenace · 28/01/2021 00:24

XenoBitch

I did at the beginning but then stopped. That way madness lies.“

Not if you’re CEV, especially bearing in mind the unknowns of the new strains.
Plus, it adds excitement 😂

That makes it less likely you’ve not had it, but many people who have had confirmed positives for active infection never test positive for antibodies.

It's an airborne disease. Not (materially) spread by surfaces.

HereComesATractor · 28/01/2021 00:29

Not everyone who is CEV feels it’s worth the trouble. I know lots who don’t.

Materially or otherwise, can’t risk it. Survives up to 72 hours on hard surfaces.

Pinkmarsh · 28/01/2021 00:32

No, never did.

Inkpaperstars · 28/01/2021 00:35

If the risk from fomites is indeed as small as some suggest, then I still agree it isn’t a risk worth taking for some of us, but I also think there may be a bigger problem.

All the advice about sanitising things, hand washing, hand sanitiser etc is based on fomite transmission. It could be focusing a great deal of energy on things that can only very minimally help but give people a false sense of security. Meanwhile the very real risks of proximity and under ventilation etc have often been underplayed, with people still believing you have to cough or sneeze to pass it on or that being 2m away means you can’t catch it.

veeeeh · 28/01/2021 00:37

No. That's nearly a year now, so far, so good. As if we didn't have enough to deal with.

I do observe the distance and mask rules.

katy1213 · 28/01/2021 00:38

Doesn't your dinner taste of bleach?

DumpedWife · 28/01/2021 00:39

Yes. I do click and collect. Takes 15 minutes top to collect it once every 8 days. So I then spend 15 maybe 20 minutes wiping it all down or quarantining things like washing powder in the garage for a week at a time.

Got a quick and easy system going now. I turn on the radio and just get on with it.

Passes 20 minutes of lockdown life and the frustration on job hunting. As I've been dumped by my husband and employers I'm literally staying at home so why not go the whole hog.

If I ever get a job or ever find reason to leave my house again I might stop as there will be other risks of civil. But as I'm stuck in a house alone, why not protect myself more.

Spanielmadness · 28/01/2021 00:43

No. It’s completely pointless and just fuels anxiety for those who do.

veeeeh · 28/01/2021 00:52

Who said we should do this anyway?

It is just anxiety inducing with no proof that it helps anyone.

polkadotpixie · 28/01/2021 00:56

@Inkpaperstars I'm also PCR swabbed every week and more recently having to do 2 x lateral flow tests every week for work too. I'm as certain as anyone can be that I've never had it

Lifeisforalimitedperiodonly · 28/01/2021 01:08

Yes, we do. We use antibac wipes. It only takes about 15 minutes. Several people in our local shop have had covid. It makes sense to wipe everything down that people can have touched.

Why are they asking customers to wipe down trolleys or baskets if you have zero risk of picking it up from surfaces? Or not letting children share pens or tables in classrooms without wiping in between? Or indeed why are hospital cleaners bothering wiping down door handles or any surfaces?
5lilducks · 28/01/2021 01:35

Yes, since about April last year. Its driving me mad but I feel like if I stop now a years worth of work would have been for nothing , if we catch it through our shopping now! All post/parcels are quarantined for a minimum of 72 hours too but usually for much longer. After washing the shopping I have to disinfect the taps that I used to wash the items as I may have touched it with contaminated hands Grin (I wash the stuff that I can and use anti-bac wipes on the rest).

HereComesATractor · 28/01/2021 01:37

I agree that this is likely a problem

This.

We restarted wiping down the groceries a couple of weeks ago. Its a tedious task.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/01/2021 04:28

Get tested 2x a week for work since June all negative. Did it the 1st month, not done it since.

readingismycardio · 28/01/2021 04:41

Never did it, never will, never had Covid (so far😬😬😬)
