This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

My dad is over 80 and ECV and has had both jabs. I'm so relieved.

KittyMcKitty · 25/01/2021 20:22

@scissy you can book for him - you just need the 10 digit number on the letter.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 25/01/2021 20:34

Cases are down to 22,000 - the lowest it has been since mid December. Deaths are down again on this time last week (only by 7 but that’s still down Grin ) - that is the second day in a row.

For every case diagnosed yesterday, 10 people were vaccinated. Grin

That Israel info is so hopeful. We could be in same boat in only a few months ❤️🤞🙏

TheABC · 25/01/2021 21:13

Thank you, everyone who answered my question. I will put some cava on ice for when they hit that number (fingers crossed for next month).

Once more 😂

➡️ You do not need a special code. You do not need the person’s NHS number. ⬅️

You can book the vaccination online using just the

Name
DOB
Postcode
Sex

fitflopqueen · 25/01/2021 21:59

My neighbour age 65 has been invited for her jab this week, everyone local has been invited by Text from the local surgeries and they seem to be doing really well with speed of take-up.

HairyFloppins · 25/01/2021 22:21

Is anyone in the Stoke On Trent/Staffs area?. Just wondering as my 70 plus parents haven't been written to yet and it says they are not eligible on the link someone provided above.

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 22:37

@gisbons I hope you have that copied somewhere so you only need to paste it rather than type it every time 😜

KittyMcKitty · 25/01/2021 23:11

@gisbons no need to be rude! Maybe tell the government then as they say you need the code (not NHS Number) 🤷‍♀️

KittyMcKitty · 25/01/2021 23:12

@gisbons I take it back you’re right I misread Smile still no need to be rude though!

gisbons · 25/01/2021 23:30

I haven’t been rude. I’ve been pushing the website all weekend on here. I am literally the opposite of rude. Smile @CaveMum got the joke 😂

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 25/01/2021 23:36

A misunderstanding guys. Hug it out now❤

WetJan · 26/01/2021 06:10

NO HUGS. You're not even half vaccinated yet 😉

Sweetpea84 · 26/01/2021 06:16

I got my first one on Saturday

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 26/01/2021 06:38

I know quite a few people who have been vaccinated over the last few weeks including my grandad who has just been dx with terminal cancer so him having some protection is a relief! They've all had the Oxford

I'm finding how well it's all going very exciting !

lunar1 · 26/01/2021 08:42

Over 7 million vaccines including first and second doses have been given up to the end of Sunday!

I'm really hoping that today is the day they hit the half million in a single day.

I'm really hoping that today is the day they hit the half million in a single day.

That will be such a big milestone!

I’m hoping that we get over the 7 million mark today - that will make me very happy. Looking forward to 4pm as ever!

By the way, does anyone know when we can expect to see the vaccine starting to take effect among those who’ve had it, in terms of fall in number of cases and crucially, death rates? (Sorry if this has been answered already, I’m a bit behind!)

MaddieElla · 26/01/2021 09:39

There will be a plateau soon I think. Which is fine, the rate we’re doing daily is amazing. But there must be a limit to how much they can supply/jab.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/01/2021 10:28

You can count me on the list of first vaccine recipients now :) I had the AZ/Oxford vaccine. In and out super quickly.

PuzzledObserver · 26/01/2021 10:30

It takes about 2 weeks for immunity to kick in (and it gets stronger after that)

Two weeks ago, there were around 2.5 million people vaccinated, though not sure of the breakdown between health and social care staff and over 80’s/care home residents.

We should start to see an effect on cases any day now.... and then it will only increase as the numbers being vaccinated each day have ramped up.

Another week or so to start to see impact on hospitalisations, and another week again before we see the impact on deaths (by mid Feb?)

The only thing is, it will be difficult to untangle the impact of lockdown from the impact of vaccinations. And that matters, for the timing of the decisions on ending lockdown.

LetItGoGo · 26/01/2021 10:46

MaddieElla : There are supply issues in the shorter term but then a lot more capacity to come online plus further vaccines in the pipeline for approval. I think it looks optimistic but stuff can always go awry!

Lovely news @OhYouBadBadKitten!💉🎉

Two to three weeks for immunity to kick in. Then if someone goes out and catches it straight away, it would take another week for any symptoms to show, followed by more time for them to (otherwise) have deteriorated to the point of requiring hospital treatment and eventual death.

So quite a substantial lag before hospitalisation and death figures improve as a result of vaccination but we are already seeing case rates drop thanks to the lockdown.

The German Health Ministry have denied the rumours about the AZ vaccine which were printed in some newspapers. Looks like the reports were more than a little wide of the mark. More good news.

CaveMum · 26/01/2021 11:10

Vaccine Minister Nadhim Zahawi told GMTV this morning that vaccine uptake is about 85% - that's fantastic, though I expect that number will drop as they move down the tiers into the lesser affected groups who might be more complacent.
