This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

Graph looks great today! Almost bang on target, we only need to get the average up to 383,020 per day (from the current 358,724) to hit it. Seeing as we had several days above 400,000 last week I’m confident that we can do it.

Sorry, cluster posting. The minister also said that they have been recording the ethnicity and occupations of those who are getting the vaccine so will publish those figures "soon". He did point out that those people who had shown hesitancy about the vaccine (he didn't say if they then went on to have it or if they just refused it altogether) "skewed heavily towards the Asian, black and minority ethnic communities", so obviously more work needs to be done within those communities to increase confidence.

Just here for the graphs Grin

I had my first dose yesterday and I am extremely grateful. I did wonder why I was asked what my job was.

dbIdb · 26/01/2021 11:46

Does anyone know how many are in the top 4 groups in England only?

CaveMum · 26/01/2021 12:03

@dbIdb

Does anyone know how many are in the top 4 groups in England only?
From this article I make out that the Scotland numbers are 1,135,000:

Group 1 - 325,000
Group 2 - 230,000
Group 3 - 190,000
Group 4 - 390,000

As at 23 January, 404,038 people in Scotland had received the first dose and 5,383 had the second dose.

Will see if I can find the Wales figures.

CaveMum · 26/01/2021 12:08

Here are the Wales numbers. Source - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-55798963

Group 1 - 40,250
Group 2 - 326,000
Group 3 - 126,800
Group 4 - 247,300
Total - 740,350

CaveMum · 26/01/2021 12:10

Sorry @dbIdb you were asking for the England only figures weren't you!

So taking the above and using the 15,000,000 UK target that means England have 13,124,700 to do (15,000,000 - 740,350 - 1,135,000).

DdraigGoch · 26/01/2021 13:11

I thought that the actual figure for the UK was less than 15m because of the overlap between groups.

buttery81 · 26/01/2021 13:12

Yes, they originally said 13.9 million in the top 4 groups, which is the figure I’ve been going by!

The top 4 groups on this chart add up to 13.9 million!

Sorry, I was just quoting the 15,000,000 figure from the BBC graphs.

@PuzzledObserver

It takes about 2 weeks for immunity to kick in (and it gets stronger after that)

Two weeks ago, there were around 2.5 million people vaccinated, though not sure of the breakdown between health and social care staff and over 80’s/care home residents.

We should start to see an effect on cases any day now.... and then it will only increase as the numbers being vaccinated each day have ramped up.

Another week or so to start to see impact on hospitalisations, and another week again before we see the impact on deaths (by mid Feb?)

The only thing is, it will be difficult to untangle the impact of lockdown from the impact of vaccinations. And that matters, for the timing of the decisions on ending lockdown.

Two weeks for the Pfizer and three weeks for the oxford. I think.
MrsTerryPratchett · 26/01/2021 14:27

It's lovely to read how many MNers are getting it.

Blessex · 26/01/2021 14:42

@MrsTerryPratchett yessss! And MN parents, friends and family. Let’s hope this latest supply storm doesn’t dampen this

Toddlerteaplease · 26/01/2021 14:53

My dad had his last Sunday, 4 days after turning 70. And my best friend had his this morning. I can relax a bit now!

buttery81 · 26/01/2021 15:17

"AstraZeneca are committed to delivering 2m doses a week to the UK, and we’re not expecting any changes to that," Boris Johnson’s spokesman said."

"We are confident in our supply, and anybody who has booked an appointment or has been asked to come forward for a vaccination should do so."

The spokesman declined to discuss what the UK might do if the EU did attempt to curb exports of the AstraZeneca vaccine produced in Belgium, saying: “I’m not going to get into hypotheticals.” Pressed on this, he said: "I would point you to the EU about any questions about their policy."

The above is from The Guardian: www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2021/jan/26/uk-covid-live-vaccine-supply-eu-export-threat-boris-johnson-coronavirus-latest-updates

I'm confused by this, as according to the BBC, "AstraZeneca is mainly produced in the UK, while the UK's supplies of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine come from the company's Belgian plant."

@buttery81 I think the issue with the AZ vaccine is that some components are made in the EU so if there was a disruption to that supply it might impact on manufacturing in the U.K.

buttery81 · 26/01/2021 15:28

I see, thanks @CaveMum. Well since the EU haven't even approved the AZ vaccine yet, let's hope there's no disruption to our supply!

My in-laws got their invite this morning, they’re both early 70s with no underlying health conditions. Their area were very late to get on with vaccinating too so it’s a huge surprise.

I saw an article earlier today about the NHS chief saying covid will become an easier to treat disease in the next 6 months too.

They're taking their time with the data update today. I wonder if Boris will announce the figures in his briefing at 5pm.
