6.3 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@InterfectoremVulpes

Brilliant, not even off the first page and we've already had two sorrybuts telling us what we already fucking know.
Grin

A pp kindly shared the link on the last thread explaining 1 dose of Pfizer has 89% efficacy and the 2nd brings it up to 91%.

So don’t you DARE use the word ‘vaccinated’ until that final 2% has been reached Grin

Thank you for the new thread OP Smile

psychomath - I've been trying to work out if I could get something like that on a shortcut key!! (Ancient PC user here (me and the PC!))

DdraigGoch · 25/01/2021 11:37

@Oblomov20

Does it count only the people? It doesn't count 'vaccinations: ie the people going for their 2nd dose of the vaccine, right?
The counter counts all of the main measures including how many people have had at least the first dose, how many are fully vaccinated and how many doses in total.

For those worried about the 12 week gap, there was reassurance on the Today Programme this morning from Professor Adam Finn who leads the Infection and Immunity syllabus at the University of Bristol. He says that the data he's seen (as yet unpublished) indicates that immunity persists throughout the period and if anything slightly rises. He believes that delaying the second dose will offer longer lasting protection.

He also backs up what we already knew about how getting the first dose into as many people as possible in a short space of time will save lives. He says that the evidence is "rock-solid".

So don't let the gloomsters get you down!

psychomath · 25/01/2021 11:45

Oh that's wonderful DdraigGoch! Even though I thought it was the best strategy for the population overall I'll admit I was a bit worried about whether on an individual level the protection might start to tail off by the end of the 12 weeks. Good to hear that there's solid evidence against that.

Also good news about the new mass vaccination centres. For some reason London still seems to be lagging behind the rest of the country a bit in terms of numbers so hopefully this will help bring them up to parity Smile

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 11:48

I’m in East Anglia (Cambs/Suffolk border) according to the local news Suffolk currently has the lowest vaccination rate in England - a tad ironic given Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s constituency is West Suffolk (where I work)!

That said, transport links in Suffolk are generally crap so I imagine there’s a lot of problems getting people to vaccination centres if they can’t get lifts from family/friends.

Seeline · 25/01/2021 11:49

My 83 year old mum got her letter a couple of weeks ago - the earliest appointment she could get was 6/2. She won't have her second until 26/4. She is in London. I'm finding it very hard to hear of all these 70 year olds being vaccinated.

Parkandride · 25/01/2021 11:52

Place marking! Love this thread. Thanks for the tip about checking your NHS number, I'm getting my dad to do it as he's over 75. If he can get jabbed this week he'll get his 2nd dose before his first grandchild is due!

beggsie · 25/01/2021 11:56

I've been lurking and reading this thread with great hope. I've got a question I hope someone can answer! My mum is 77 and CEV - she hasn't received a letter or a call yet for the vaccine. If I put her details in via the NHS link, I can now get her an appointment but she is refusing as she hasn't had the physical letter - she doesn't want to jump the queue! Is it ok to do this, or is she right in waiting for the letter?? If anyone can help, I thank you!

WetJan · 25/01/2021 11:58

If the vaccine isn't 100% (which as far as I'm aware none are) then do we have to refer to it as "partially vaccinated" even after the second dose? 🙄

Only if you care about not upsetting the miserable pedants on here.
FourTeaFallOut · 25/01/2021 12:05

If it makes her feel better, leave it a little until the letter is in her hand. And if it isn't, then use the link then maybe? Beggsie

If it is offering an appointment then they are taking her group in her area. I can't imagine that it would offer the vaccination if she were not already eligible.

I would encourage her to take the appointment, it's not like she is Group 8 and jumping over a load of people, at 77 and CEV she is (I think) Group 2.

She is absolutely not jumping the queue by using the link. 119 have confirmed that if she is not eligible it wouldn’t offer her an appointment. The fact it offers her an appointment means her letter has been generated. But it could take a week to arrive, if at all! Please book her in.
CaveMum · 25/01/2021 12:07

Sorry, double checked - your mum is Group 3 but my point still stands Grin

You don’t need your NHS number to book online. It’ll find you through name, sex, DOB and postcode. If you are eligible to get a vaccination you will then be offered appointment slots.
beggsie · 25/01/2021 12:08

Thanks so much Cavemum and FourTea - I think you have both given me a steer. I will wait another couple of days for the post to catch up, and then I'll encourage her a bit harder to use the link! She says her biggest problem is BDS - Bossy Daughter Syndrome! Thanks so much!!

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 12:16

Definitely do it beggsie. I've emailed my parents to tell them to check themselves - they are both Group 3 as they are both CEV, though mum is only 66, and they live a 5 minute walk from one of the mass vaccination hubs so it's definitely worth them checking to see if they can get an appointment.

If it doesn’t work today, tell them to keep checking daily 👍🏻
gingeristhenewblack43 · 25/01/2021 12:24

I had my first dose on the 15th Jan (I work in adult social care) it was an incredibly efficient yet still supportive process. Got my next dose booked for early April 💉

Loving the positivity on this thread, it's cheering my day right up ☺️

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 12:30

Honestly, parents! My mum just emailed me back to say "Oh, didn't I tell you - I had my vaccination this morning."

Both Hmm and Grin. Dad hasn't had a letter yet so she's going to check him on the online system.

KTB19 · 25/01/2021 12:56

Australia have approved the vaccine today. We are hoping that they start vaccinating us all in February.

My Dad in the UK has had his first jab but the second one was cancelled. He is waiting on a new appointment.

I can't wait to have mine. I have an auto immune disease so need to check with my specialist about which vaccine she wants me to have.

I think it's brilliant that the vaccines are out and I for one shall celebrate with a glass of wine to raise a toast to the scientists and doctors that made it possible.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 25/01/2021 13:00

@Arobase

I'm all for being positive, but I don't believe you can say people have been vaccinated till they've had both doses.
Like babies they have been vaccinated after one dose because they physically have and know have a great deal of protection. They have not been fully vaccinated because that is two doses.

Everyone here seems to know the difference. It is you that is making a mistake.

Right that’s it, I’m hiring myself out - mum just emailed me again to say before she had a chance to go on the website they had a call from the GP surgery inviting my dad to come in for his jab this Friday Grin

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/01/2021 13:09

I messaged my uncle (he and my aunt are both late 70s) and he said the link is asking for a reference number from the letter which he doesn’t have
