6.3 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@Bilgepumper

My friend’s gran is in Essex and is 92. No letter yet and no way of booking online. Any ideas anyone?
I've just posted the NHS booking website, have you tried entering the NHS number and postcode? X
Arobase · 25/01/2021 09:10

I'm all for being positive, but I don't believe you can say people have been vaccinated till they've had both doses.

whenwillthemadnessend · 25/01/2021 09:11

My mums 76 and had hers Saturday. She was very happy and said it was all very efficient and well run.

KezzabellaB · 25/01/2021 09:17

Had my first one yesterday, I work for the NHS 😊

Of course you can. You can by all means qualify it as 'partially vaccinated' or fully vaccinated - this is a useful distinction - but the first shot starts to confer protection.
InterfectoremVulpes · 25/01/2021 09:23

Brilliant, not even off the first page and we've already had two sorrybuts telling us what we already fucking know.

lurker101 · 25/01/2021 09:27

Some more good news from NI (excuse the misleading title) Most healthcare workers have now received at least their first dose, as have the vast majority of over 80s.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-55791130

NI Dept. of Health has updated their Twitter to say that the vaccine figures from NI are lower than actual for the weekend figures as they don’t include vaccinations carried out by GPs which will be updated today. So even more vaccinations carried out than reported to date.
At least 10.5% of NI adults vaccinated to date

Thedarksideofthemoon30 · 25/01/2021 09:31

I wish my 71 year old dad would get it but he’s refusing.

He had a stroke 17 years ago and has diabetes, wheelchair bound etc. He refuses the flu jab every year aswell.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/01/2021 09:38

@Oblomov20

Does it count only the people? It doesn't count 'vaccinations: ie the people going for their 2nd dose of the vaccine, right?
It's got both figures at the bottom. The first number is the sum of the other two.

Great info @lurker101 - thank you!

We will be at 7 million tomorrow without a doubt!

For those saying the 1st jab offers nothing........Israel reporting a 65% drop in hospitalizations in age 60 plus, 3 to 4 weeks after the first dose, that is amazing news.

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 09:54

I think we should probably just say that of course all comments are welcome on this thread (it’s not a dictatorship!) but that we won’t be engaging in debate about how the vaccine works or the rights/wrongs of vaccine protocols.

This was was started with, as I understand, the intention of providing positive news about the vaccine rollout and the numbers of people being offered vaccinations. There are plenty of other threads for debates to take place on, or if anyone feels that passionately about it they can start their own!

And to borrow from elsewhere on Mumsnet, just don’t feed the 🐿!

gisbons · 25/01/2021 09:56

If you have relatives who are 70+ you can book for them using this link. You do not need their NHS number, just name, postcode, sex and DOB and it will find them.

If it says they are not eligible then it may be their letter hasn’t been generated yet so try again tomorrow.

Had my first vaccine yesterday, NHS frontline worker

buttery81 · 25/01/2021 10:16

I’ve just read in the FT that AstraZeneca is apparently on target to deliver 2 million doses on average per week to the NHS for the rest of the year. Sounds good!

Love this thread and the vaccine tracker you linked to!

I took my Mum to have her first vaccine last week. I had to stay with her as her carer to help her with the process, but it meant I saw her being vaccinated. I felt quite emotional at seeing the little bottle and the vaccine filling her syringe. It felt like such a historic moment! 11 weeks until her next dose, but I feel much happier that she has some protection now.

I can’t wait to have mine! Although I’m not in any priority group so will have to wait a while. But know it is coming, and coming fast, is great news! Half a million a day Grin

I was going to suggest that instead of "x million people vaccinated" we should start saying "x million with a greatly reduced risk of severe illness or death" so no-one can quibble, but it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, so your idea is probably better Grin

@FourTeaFallOut

6.3m, that's an awesome figure to start a new thread. Wonder what it will end on?
Us all saying "Told you so to the doomsters"Grin

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat

4 new mass vaccination centres open in London today.
Well that brings me joy.

Do you know where they are?

Crumpetycrump · 25/01/2021 11:17

My 73 year old relative just tried booking via the link but it said he’s not eligible yet. Hopefully soon. His 76 year old wife was vaccinated last Friday.

ILookAtTheFloor · 25/01/2021 11:19

I've booked my vaccine! In shock as didn't expect it, but my job means I can, bit mad but my boss is super keen to get us all done! So I'm going on Thursday!

Still in shock about it as I'm very rarely public facing.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/01/2021 11:22

Ah sorry @Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum I heard it on the local news this morning (even though I don’t live in London, that’s the news we get!) and I’m not familiar with the area. Maybe one was Westfield?

CaveMum · 25/01/2021 11:26

This from ITV on the new hubs:

The centres are based at the Francis Crick Institute in King's Cross, a former IKEA retail unit at Westfield in Stratford, Hornsey Medical Centre in Crouch End and Hawks Road Clinic in Kingston. They are part of 32 vaccine sites opening across the country this week.

The new vaccination centres will be focusing on offering jabs to health and social care staff on Monday, before opening their doors to other priority patients on Tuesday.
