This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

oh that is interesting @Chesneyhawkes1.

Different at my hub obviously.

PuzzledObserver · 02/02/2021 14:11

Thank you, @PilatesPeach

lunar1 · 02/02/2021 14:47

My city council have done 80% of group 1-4. They don't yet have permission to move onto group 5 so some of the hubs have temporarily closed and they are doing popup hubs plus going to the homes of house bound people. I'm in the NW.

CaveMum · 02/02/2021 15:26

Thought this might be interesting if anyone is free. The researchers behind the Covid ZOE app are doing a webinar tomorrow afternoon to run through what they’ve learnt about the vaccines so far.

Where as that is annoying that'll put them in a good position to go full speed ahead with group 5 when allowed.
lunar1 · 02/02/2021 15:48

It's frustrating in some ways, but knowing that very vulnerable people at home will get a vaccine is brilliant. Plus 80% vaccinated in those groups is mire uptake than expected.

350,362 first doses today!

Much more than last Tuesday!

DdraigGoch · 02/02/2021 16:43

352,935 doses today compared with 281,725 a week ago, that's a 25% improvement!

Frazzled2207 · 02/02/2021 16:44

Indeed if you average that every day that is two and a half million a week. And we know that some days they do much more. Remarkable really.

Level75 · 02/02/2021 16:59

Does anyone know when group 5 will get the go ahead?

CaveMum · 02/02/2021 17:00

Great numbers!

PuzzledObserver · 02/02/2021 17:00

We are definitely going to be at 10 million 1st doses by the end of the day. And this time tomorrow we will know that for sure.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/02/2021 17:03

I think it depends where you are. Some people have posted about getting appointments already.

I believe they have said you can book 65+ online from next week. That would be for large hubs or pharmacies

GPs and small hubs seem to send out their own appointments. So they can go at own pace.

buttery81 · 02/02/2021 17:04

9,646,715 people have now received their first dose of vaccine!

It seems like the Times article was correct and supplies are higher this week.

Will we see the big 10 million on the gov.uk website tomorrow?

Such good news!! Grin

The new figure means that 18.2% of UK adults have now received their first dose. Hurrah!

This preprint looks promising and supports the UK decision to have a 12 week interval between doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine:

New preprint on the efficacy of a single dose of the Oxford/AZ ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 #vaccine. 76% efficacy against symptomatic infection from day 22 to day 90 post vaccination in 17,177 trial participants in UK, Brazil and S Africa:
papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf

Vaccine efficacy against symptomatic COVID-19 clearly higher with longer interval between first and second dose.

No-one in a population of 12,408 people vaccinated with a single dose of ChAdOx1 nCo-19 was hospitalised with COVID-19 from 22 days after immunisation.

So close to 20%. By Friday/ Saturday maybe?

buttery81 · 02/02/2021 17:50

20% is 10.6 million so that sounds plausible!

Excellent news @CoffeeandCroissant!

Go post that, then run away on all the EU / UK argument threads will you 😉😂

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 02/02/2021 17:56

They have also said that the oxford/AZ vaccine reduces transmission by 54%🥳

WetJan · 02/02/2021 18:08

FIL (74) and MIL (67) have their jabs booked for next week. Yorkshire is on a roll.

Parkandride · 02/02/2021 18:09

Hope we can get to 10 million tomorrow! The snow has shut a few centers today so hopefully that doesn't slow it down

Exploratory analyses are presented in this report that show protection with dosing intervals between 4 weeks and >12 weeks and that a longer interval provides better protection post-boost, without compromising protection in the three month period until the second dose is administered.
Don't tell me that the government did indeed make a decision which is backed by the science?

[Goes off to Twitter looking for people who kicked off about the decision at the time]

HalfDutchGirl · 02/02/2021 18:11

@PilatesPeach like you I'm helping out in a vaccine hub, doing similar stuff to you, I'm checking people in on the computer. We're also using the Astra Zeneca vaccine and also just asking people not to drive for 15 minutes afterwards.

One thought I've had re. the numbers is that of course some people within the other groups are already getting vaccinated due to their front line employment which, even though tiny in comparison, brings the total still needed to be vaccinated down a bit more.
