This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@PilatesPeach

I volunteer at a hub, the numbers we are doing are increasing each day as we get more supply and also now onto the Oxford AZ which does not require the 15 minute observation time afterwards the way the Pfizer does so again this helps get more through. Subject to supplies staying steady, I think the daily numbers vaccinated will stay high and there is talk of some more satellite hubs being added so hopefully numbers will go up. Lots of volunteers available so that should not be an issue afaik.
Oh well done you🥰

And that is brilliant news too🥳

Not being negative but wondering how the centres will manage the 12 week second jabs and any high volume of new jabs. I'm assuming that more centres will need to open although I'm guessing the care homes will be visited by mobile nurses etc.

PuzzledObserver · 02/02/2021 10:12

@PilatesPeach are you getting both vaccines now? Do you know anything about how they are going to manage making sure people get the right type for their second dose?

I mean, if you had Pfizer, and on the day you turn up they only have AZ..... given that AIUI the vaccine centres don’t know very far in advance when they’ll be getting supplies, and sometimes don’t know which they’re getting until it turns up, how can they book people for the “right” day?

PuzzledObserver · 02/02/2021 10:15

Just checked the live vaccine tracker page. Even if the estimate for yesterday was way too high (Mondays often are), we are SO crossing the 10 million people jabbed mark today!

Dh, 74, had his vaccination yesterday at a hub about 25 minutes away. He was very impressed with the organisation. He was interviewed by an army medic and was given the jab by a navy medic. He had received the referral letter on Friday.

I saw the link on Mumsnet and as I am 69 and diabetic I tried the NHS link on line and was able to book an appointment for tomorrow. I could have booked on any day at any time this week so I am not sure the booking letters are getting through. I think a lot of people don't want to travel but I am happy to drive to get my vaccine. I will be so relieved to get my vaccine.

buttery81 · 02/02/2021 11:59

Good news all round @larry5! Smile

My DM had hers this very morning Smile

Huge thanks to our brilliant Oxford scientists Star and vacc centre people Halo

pinkpanther84 · 02/02/2021 12:41

My DM and DF are getting their jabs on Friday, they got a call from the GP surgery yesterday. They are 70 and 73. So happy for them Smile

Frazzled6 · 02/02/2021 12:51

Looks like the Gov site was updated on 25th January and 50 to 65 years will have to wait to hear about the jab.

6.3 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!
Level75 · 02/02/2021 13:01

That's interesting that 65 and over is on that first list. That's my parents' group so following closely.

PilatesPeach · 02/02/2021 13:13

@Frazzled2207 I am not a medical volunteer - I got involved via the local council's FB page. I only do marshalling outsidein the car park or on the gate or take temperatures inside or do cleaning.

The hub I help out gives you the appointment for your 2nd dose when it gives you the first dose - you get a card with the first dose & batch number on it and the date for your second dose.

PilatesPeach · 02/02/2021 13:16

@PuzzledObserver sorry to miss your comment - my hub was doing Pfizer and now is AZ but you get your 2nd appointment scheduled when you are given the first dose so when the 2nd doses start, there will be no first doses on those days if that makes sense and they will know whether they need Pfizer or AZ. All the Pfizer 2nd doses will be done by end of April so they will use AZ until the 2nd Pfizer jabs start, they go back to AZ for the new 1st doses and the AZ 2nd doses.

Frazzled2207 · 02/02/2021 13:19

@PilatesPeach
Good for you. I’m not medial either but the process to help out via St. John ambulance is ridiculous.

PilatesPeach · 02/02/2021 13:22

I think if the satellites are open by the Pfizer 2nd doses, they will use those for either the 2nd doses Pfizer or the 1st dose AZ if that makes sense - they just need 2 buildings or to use more space in the existing one which is a big leisure centre. I do not know all the logistics just what I hear when I'm there - not every day but it is very well rub and the people coming in for their jabs are so grateful and positive.

You can also tell by the people coming in for vaccination now that the speed has picked up - just a few weeks ago it was all the really elderly most of whom did not drive themselves, now it is the 70 year olds driving themselves and often in Porsches and Mercs!

Frazzled2207 · 02/02/2021 13:22

So it looks like we will need to ramp up capacity considerably to be able to do 1st doses at the same time as 2nd doses

PilatesPeach · 02/02/2021 13:26

From what I hear though, more places are opening all the time for delivery. Also with the AZ you can get more through as you do not need any space for people to sit, socially distanced for 15 minute observation so if you have a sports hall, you can only use part for the jabs and the other part for the 15 minute waiting area, once you move solely to AZ you can use the whole area for jab which makes a big difference as it is straight in and out.

Frazzled2207 · 02/02/2021 13:37

Good to hear from the front line!! @PilatesPeach

Chesneyhawkes1 · 02/02/2021 13:48

I had the AZ and as I'd driven myself there I had to sit for 15 mins in the observation area
