This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum Once we have vaccinated the first 4 priority groups will have done the people that account for 88% of covid deaths

That is mind blowing 😯 What a difference we should see once the immunity builds up

Yep it’s indeed amazing. All those people now protected from severe disease, hospitalisation and death. Smile

InterfectoremVulpes · 01/02/2021 07:56

@InterfectoremVulpes

Brilliant, not even off the first page and we've already had two sorrybuts telling us what we already fucking know.
Ah well, we got 3/4s of the way through until more showed up 😉

I'm in the UAE and had my second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine yesterday. My husband has his today. It's really quite amazing and not what I had expected at all. Very proud of this little country!

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 08:43

@TheAirbender

That’s great. Is everyone keen for the Sinopharrm over there? We’ve not heard much about it at all, am aware few western nations have ordered it

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 08:46

@Jinglealltheway22
It is indeed very promising generally i wouldn’t be too optimistic about novavax coming online soon (I’m on the trial which is ongoing for months yet) results were only interim I don’t think anyone is expecting it to be approved before April/may. Very happy to be proved wrong though.

PuzzledObserver · 01/02/2021 08:59

@DdraigGoch

And more importantly if they start getting on with normal life everyone else will crack.
I think you’re right about that - it’s important for social cohesion that people who are vaccinated continue to obey the rules.

Where it may differ for many is that they will feel comfortable doing things they were previously permitted to do but chose not to, out of an abundance of caution.

That’s certainly the case for me - over last summer and Autumn I had precisely one indoor visitor and sat in a coffee shop twice. Normally I’d have been having my mum to visit for a few days, and be in coffee shops weekly and more. I didn’t, because I was being ultra cautious.

Now - once we’re allowed - bring it on. Although currently my immunity comes from infection rather than vaccination - but I will have my arm out ready when invited, because extra security etc.

InterfectoremVulpes

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂At least it shows there must be no negative news for them to latch onto else where 😉 So that is a good thing 😁

TheAirbender · 01/02/2021 09:17

It’s what we’ve got, so yes, people are absolutely going for it. We have Pfizer in limited supply but only for over 60s/vulnerable.

Good to hear people are eager else where ❤
LetItGoGo · 01/02/2021 09:19

I think half vaccinated is a misinterpretation of the results but hey ho.

buttery81 · 01/02/2021 09:21

I’m looking forward to getting over the 9 million mark today, although not expecting huge numbers for the sole reason that it’s Monday. IIRC, last week the numbers got higher and higher as the week went on!

The Times article that Errol linked to did say that AZ supplies are expected to be higher this week though, so that’ll be interesting to see!

DartmoorDoughnut · 01/02/2021 09:22

Following on from my first dose yesterday (Pfizer) only issue has been a tender arm, not as bad as when I have my flu jab tbh!

buttery81 · 01/02/2021 09:23

Also, I’m very excited that in just two weeks time, we should be moving decisively onto the 65-69 age group - my parents’ category!

OP posts:
Frazzled6 · 01/02/2021 09:35

I think they may move on to 65 plus this week... Today going really well at over 200k already. I assume they will want to keep appointments rolling no dip.. I think I worked out there is probably 20m of vaccine in the UK maybe more.

Escapetothecounty · 01/02/2021 09:37

How about saying people have had half the course and are semi-vaccinated, or partially-vaccinated. As it's true that they have had half the required doses, but also true that they're more than 50% protected.

LetItGoGo · 01/02/2021 09:39

They have had one shot of a two shot programme.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/02/2021 09:45

Yes I suppose we will have to expect a Monday dip. Won't stop us hoping for a big number again though. Think we are getting greedy 😂

There are definitely some people on mumsnet who have appointments for themselves or loved one this week and are in 60s.

They are saying today that all eligible care homes have now been done❤
(Ones with a covid out break linked or singular residents that couldn't when visited. They will circle back to as soon as possible)

Frazzled2207 · 01/02/2021 09:47

An interesting development from the guardian. Am surprised given our current success and that valneva still a long way off quote below. Clearly government is seeing this as a long term game but I wonder if some of these future orders will have been “tweaked” for new variants like the flu jab is

In the UK, the government has ordered an extra 40m doses of the Valneva Covid-19 vaccine.

The move means 100m doses of Valneva have been put on order, enough for every adult in the UK, with the latest batch earmarked for delivery in 2022. The government has also retained options over a further 90m doses for supply between 2023 and 2025.

Valneva said the total value of the entire order was up to €1.4bn (£1.24bn). The vaccine is still in clinical trials, with the early-stage phase 1/2 study expected to read out within the next three months.

Chocolatewins · 01/02/2021 09:50

I hadn't noticed this thread before! Just what I need to read!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/02/2021 09:52

It is a none argument we say yay xxxxxx amount of first doses / jabs today anyway

Maybe realise the thread is about enjoying success of the vaccination program. Celebrating the small joys and step closer to ending lockdown. (Plus a bit of positive information here and there)

Motorina · 01/02/2021 09:53

There was a chap on the radio from Valneva this morning (R4, about 8:40) talking about their vaccine. He sounded very confident. ANd had a lovely Scottish burr. Recommend.

vodkaredbullgirl · 01/02/2021 09:55

Where I work all residents and staff have had their 1st vaccinations, roll on the 2nd 1.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 01/02/2021 09:56

Definitely trying to think to the future but also I don't think that one has investment from the EU extra. So probably needs more future orders to continue research and set up manufacturing in the UK. The plant will be in Scotland I think.
