This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

By the 15th I hope many/most areas will be onto the 65-69s if allowed- I know some are already

My parents are in that category so I can’t wait!

February target should be no problem at all🥰

Mind you just wait for it because they won't get 100% take up in all 4 groups. Then the doomsters and the newspapers will be. Told you so they only managed 99.99% of their target 🤦‍♀️😂😂😂😂😂😂

We will have to make sure we are louder😊

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 31/01/2021 17:14

@TheCuriousMonkey

buttery I thought 13.9 was the correct figure because of overlap between different groups?
I agree I thought it was 15 million but 1.1m fell in to more than one category bringing it down to 13.9m.

Haha - surely even the gloomiest doomsters couldn’t expect 100% take up!

Does anyone know what take up has been like, incidentally? There are obviously going to be some people who refuse to have it.

I have seen 13.9, 14.someting and 15 million used by the government newspapers and other places.

Have decided to just mentally wish for 15 million. Then they are all covered 👍

Oh, great news @GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat, thanks! I will revert back to using 13.9 million in that case. I just wish certain newspapers would too!

If that is the target then like others have said, there’s no doubt whatsoever we will hit it by mid Feb!

Take up is my biggest worry. I think they said it was about 85% in the over 80s. That was a couple of weeks ago. They only expected 75% or something in this group. Do did marvelously.

I am in London and because black and Asian take up is exacted to be lower than average I worry a lot. They are doing some positive campaigning to tackle the problem now. Though London numbers are still the lowest. Hopefully it has a lot to do with a younger average age here.

MaddieElla · 31/01/2021 17:54

I know this picture is asking for trouble, and I know we shouldn't "gloat". But I'm so flippin proud of the UK. The only way out of this, regardless of what has come before, is vaccination. And we are doing it right.

Also hope it posts. Hmm

@CaveMum oooh lovely graphs - so we’re right on target then!

But I'm so flippin proud of the UK.

Me too - the rollout is a mammoth task and it’s been nothing short of excellent so far!

I've been looking back a couple of weeks on ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations

Two weeks ago around 6% of the UK population had been vaccinated. That means now, today, that 6% are very substantially protected against covid. 6% safe! And more every day!

Take that, covid. Bam! Bam! Bam!

It's good the 80s take-up was more than expected. Hopefully as time goes on there will be evidence of both efficacy and safety to persuade doubters other than the most rabid anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists.
Parkandride · 31/01/2021 18:31

Wow! What an amazing number, makes me all emotional. Was a bit nervous seeing the numbers fall earlier in the week but now we know its normal for them to vary throughout the week

Blessex · 31/01/2021 18:39

My mum hit day 14 after her vaccine yesterday and my dad will hit that on Tuesday. From all the Pfizer graphs that is when some immunity kicks in. Am feeling more relaxed Smile

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/01/2021 19:00

Can we keep the vaccine nationalism out of this thread please. We can be very very proud of the enormous effort so many are putting in to make this happen, without going all flag wavy.

Frazzled2207 · 31/01/2021 19:03

@OhYouBadBadKitten
Especially as vaccines have only arrived on our shores due to massive international collaboration

I can't be the only one repeatedly pressing refresh, just so that I can see what today's fantastic number looks like on a graph!
PuzzledObserver · 31/01/2021 19:09

Do the regular slides include the age heatmap? That will be where we start to see the impact of vaccination - when the lines for the older ages go paler as cases drop dramatically in those groups

Blessex · 31/01/2021 19:13

@DdraigGoch haha I have been doing exactly that!!!

PuzzledObserver · 31/01/2021 21:15

I am so happy about reaching 600,000 per day. Do you think 1 million might be possible?

Daisyway · 31/01/2021 21:21

Statistics are looking amazing.. Well done to NHS and everyone involved including Kate Bingham who hasn't had an easy ride.

I think it’s doable, lots of people reporting that there are plenty of available slots when booking their jabs via the NHS website. The limiting factor is how much vaccine can be supplied.
Mumoftwoinprimary · 31/01/2021 21:25
@Mumoftwoinprimary it's worth a chance. My DM went along with my DF today for his vaccine and they offered DM it too even though she's the wrong side of 70. She was ecstatic.

Tell you DM to take her NHS number too so they can generate an appt for the 2nd dose. My DM didn't have hers with her so hasn't got an appt for her 2nd dose.
Thanks - that’s good advice. I’ve passed it on to my mum.
