6.3 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

I tried online again and have been able to book! CEV so group 4

Motorina · 28/01/2021 23:44

I read somewhere that there's the potential for Novavax to be combined with the flu vaccine for a two-in-one jab. Not sure how that would work with the need for two doses, but it would clearly be a boon if it can.

Plus it has the efficacy of Pfizer with the storage requirements of Oxford. WHich, again, could be game changing.

It's all very cheering.

EasterIssland · 29/01/2021 00:00

@Teamox

Novavax is great news. But will we even use it? I think it's not due to be delivered until the 'second half' of the year - so July at the earliest. According to the calculators, all adults should have received their first dose of Pfizer or Oxford by then.

Of course, things may go wrong with the Pfizer or Oxford supply so definitely amazing to have this one in the pipeline. And we may decide to vaccinate under 18s/16s by the summer? Also its obviously great news globally to have yet another successful vaccine.

I take it’s for stockpiling for once the immunity from the current vaccinations runs out.

Awesome 😁
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 29/01/2021 02:57

From the BBC NEWS WEBSITE

Stan Erck, chief executive of Novavax, said the results from the UK trial were "spectacular" and "as good as we could have hoped", while the efficacy in South Africa was "above people's expectations".

He told the BBC the manufacturing plant in Stockton-on-Tees should be up and running by March or April, with the company hoping to get approval for the vaccine from the MHRA around the same time.

(It isn't clear what up and running actually means in real terms but they are moving pretty fast)

Wonderful news @QueenPawPaws!

Someone has reported the threads I started about being able to book online if you are eligible. Which is quite ironic, as I only started them after being told by 119 that they were trying to publicise this avenue more as letters can get lost or delayed.

There was a lot of frothing about how it was "despicable" that elderly and CEV people were "jumping the queue." I guess some people can't read?! I also got the classic insult that I'm a Daily Mail journo. I wish! Then I could publicise the link, tell people that they can book on, and help the numbers go up even more.

Anyway, at last count there were 45 eligible people who had managed to book vaccinations that they are eligible for due to those two threads. Which is brilliant. I'm chuffed.

I'm especially sad that the thread in this topic has gone because it was a really bloody heartwarming thread and I was looking forward to checking in with the eligible posters over the next few days about how their vaccinations had gone. If you are one of those, and reading this, please share on here, or PM me?! Thanks

Anyway. Onwards and upwards. Hope everyone has a lovely day. Smile

lurker101 · 29/01/2021 08:37

That’s horrible news @gisbons obviously the system should be made in a way that only allows those eligible to book. If publicising that link means someone eligible can book two days before their letter would reach their home surely that can only be a good thing? With a rollout this large there will obviously be overlap between groups getting vaccinated, provided people are considered eligible by those much closer to the detail than me, then there should be no issue. I understand it’s upsetting for people who are waiting for a jab seeing others get booked but that is the process. Many of my healthcare worker friends in their 20s got vaccinated before my Grandparent in their 90s, which was irritating, but they were perfectly entitled to per the process, it would have been silly to hold them back from being vaccinated or to work in strict age order which would have caused extra admin to ensure 90s got done before 80s etc.

I’ve tried booking my 42yo husband who is not eligible. It says my husband is not eligible so he can’t book. (I was meanly trying to check whether it’d allow it and I was hoping it’d block him)

It also didn’t allow my 70yo fil

So basically it’s allowing to book to those that are entitled to

gisbons · 29/01/2021 08:43

I was reading last night that the Novavax vaccine could in theory be combined with the annual flu jab, this is very interesting if so! I'm interested to see how we use our Novavax supplies once they arrive in the summer.

Also, it is made in Teesdide but due to contracts its first batches will be going to the US first. It made me think, "can you imagine if the UK started storming the factory in a dawn raid and threatening to withhold its exports?!" Hmm!

lurker101 · 29/01/2021 08:46

Exactly @EasterIssland I also did my own tests on it, and it rejected my parents as they don’t have a GP in England. Shame if people have had sour grapes and got threads pulled which would be helpful for others.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 29/01/2021 08:51

I've just managed to get my dad booked for his vaccination on Sunday. I'm so happy 🎉🎉🎉🎉

QueenPawPaws · 29/01/2021 09:00

@gisbons sure Smile mine is booked for next Saturday

Yamashita40 · 29/01/2021 09:06

@gisbons I posted on your other thread before it got pulled saying I hadn't had a text confirming after I booked my dad in on your link (age 70 but our area is onto 70s now). I was worried so I rang and spoke to a nice lady on 119 who confirmed he was definitely booked in and gave me his confirmation number. She confirmed it was legit. I've just had a few tears. Thanks so much.

Ah smashing!! That’s brilliant Smile

VoyageInTheDark · 29/01/2021 09:27

My dad (76 with type 2 diabetes) is getting his vaccine today, so pleased!

LetItGoGo · 29/01/2021 09:46

Yamashita it's such a relief isn't it?

I surprised myself and cried when my elderly family were all done over one weekend! Different parts of the country too.

User27aw · 29/01/2021 09:59

@gisbons How strange the other thread got pulled, you were only trying to publicise an nhs service that was up and running. My dad only appeared as eligible the day he actually received his text so it not as if people are able to jump the queue by more than a dat or two

Yamashita40 · 29/01/2021 09:59

@LetItGoGo yes I think that's what it is. You don't realise how much worry you're carrying around for them.

I know. The message has been changed from "taken down until MNHQ can look at it," to "Thanks for the many reports about this thread. We're taking it down so we can check things out behind the scenes." Many reports? Really? Hmm. Haven't had any communication from MNHQ. I would like an apology and reinstating but I'm not holding my breath.

I know everyone says it but I really do remember when it was all fields around here. It's definitely got nastier. The nice 'pockets,' like this thread, are sadly becoming all too rare.

It does actually make me question whether there are some people who actively WANT this amazing vaccination programme to fail and for the target to be missed? Why else the nasty comments?

buttery81 · 29/01/2021 10:20

@gisbons so strange that people would report what sounds like a very helpful thread! Confused

Just to clarify, I encouraged my mum (who is late 60s so priority group 5) to check on the website about whether she and my dad (also group 5) could book their jabs. But she said that a message popped up saying only those who’ve received a letter can book. I told her to enter her details anyway just to see, but she hasn’t because the letter thing put her off. Does she have to wait for a letter or is it worth entering her details anyway just to see? I know she’s group 5 but some areas seem to be ahead of others with the rollout, which is why I was encouraging her.

On another note, I’m hoping for 7.7 today and the big 8 million tomorrow. Come on Britain, let’s do this!!! Grin

lurker101 · 29/01/2021 10:24

@buttery81 it’s worth checking - there’s nothing to say a letter hasn’t already been generated and is in the postal system on its way to her right now. We get post about twice a week here in bulk rather than daily.

gisbons · 29/01/2021 10:44

@buttery81 I've not heard of that pop up. I'd give it a go, literally nothing to lose!

8 million tomorrow would be AMAZING!!!

InterfectoremVulpes · 29/01/2021 10:47

I've just checked on behalf of my mum and she now looks to be eligible (mid 60s but CEV). I've sent her the link and am now impatiently waiting for her to answer 🤣
