This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

Some more NI positivity coming - Michelle O’Neill (Deputy First Minister) has just announced that all care home residents have received their first vaccine and 83% of them have received their second vaccine Grin

@doublemix

Is there a reason that the daily numbers are down on last week not that I don't think it's great just wondered why the difference?
I’m guessing it’s a supply issue, they did say supplies would get a bit tight.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 28/01/2021 17:02

Nicole's probably sent hers to the EUGrin

(Sorry Scottish posters I couldn't help it)

thatgingergirl · 28/01/2021 17:03

CaveMum - getting my brain in gear, I guess once the dashboard is published, it isn't altered, so presumably the extra numbers will be rolled over to tomorrow.

lunar1 · 28/01/2021 17:32

You have to wonder if some of the figures are political and maybe mid February they will find a bunch of completed vaccines down the back of the sofa. Our hub is as busy as ever, as are the neighbouring ones.

Zogstart · 28/01/2021 17:45

I had that exact thought today!

lunar1 · 28/01/2021 17:50

@Zogstart

It just wouldn't look good right now to be hitting half a million per day would it!

CoffeeandCroissant

Thank you for posting that. All is looking brilliant.

I was concerned about London percentages last we bit someone pointed out to me we have a lower percentage of elderly than most places. So hopefully as we go down the age brackets the figures will look better here too.

If there’s a lower percentage of elderly in London, the vaccination percentage should be highest of all - as there’s fewer people to vaccinate, so it should be easier to get them all done. In theory.

Good point. I think I was thinking overall actually jabs given rather than percentage by ageConfused

Lack of sleeping lately seems to be muddling me.

psychomath · 28/01/2021 18:27

Hooray @PinkTonic and @herecomesthsun! Smile🎉

buttery81 · 28/01/2021 18:28

We’re over 7.4 million - wooohooo!

I’m hoping for 7.7 tomorrow and the big 8 million on Saturday!

In other exciting news.....

As of today the weekly death toll is down compared to last week! Looking at cases and hospital admissions it will just keep on going down now. And in a month or so when the vaccinations start impacting the deaths the rates will start falling really fast.

This is it. Lockdown is working. People are being vaccinated. The worst is over. We are going to get through this.

dbIdb · 28/01/2021 19:48

Are we thinking that vaccinations will be offered to Group 5 from February 15th?

What do you mean? Political?
allthingsred · 28/01/2021 19:52

Due to have mine next week. Feeling really nervous. Is there a thread about people who have received it & side effects(or lack of)

Today posters across the boards have said about their own or family member appointments or jabs in three different groups.

@ILookAtTheFloor

I've booked my vaccine! In shock as didn't expect it, but my job means I can, bit mad but my boss is super keen to get us all done! So I'm going on Thursday!

Still in shock about it as I'm very rarely public facing.

Same! I am normally public facing but we've adopted different working practices since last March.

I'm booked in for tomorrow. Excited but a bit nervous .

My mum (care home) has had both doses .

WetJan · 28/01/2021 21:35

@allthingsred Almost all of our team have had the Pfizer, three the Oxford. One colleague felt poorly enough to have a day off work. The rest of us had a sore arm at worst and no other side effects.

CaveMum · 28/01/2021 22:04

Another new vaccine has shown 89% efficacy against the new variant.

Novavax is a US firm but the vaccine is produced in Teeside. Results show it is 95% effective against the original variant and more than 80% effective against the new U.K. variant.

The U.K. Government already have 60 million doses on order when it gets its approval.

CaveMum · 28/01/2021 22:07

Sorry that should be 89% efficacy across both variants.

But yay, more vaccine to add to the schedule.

The MHRA are conducting their review already so they hope it will get approved soon.

Teamox · 28/01/2021 22:26

Novavax is great news. But will we even use it? I think it's not due to be delivered until the 'second half' of the year - so July at the earliest. According to the calculators, all adults should have received their first dose of Pfizer or Oxford by then.

Of course, things may go wrong with the Pfizer or Oxford supply so definitely amazing to have this one in the pipeline. And we may decide to vaccinate under 18s/16s by the summer? Also its obviously great news globally to have yet another successful vaccine.

I wonder if it could be used as a booster? If it’s got proven efficacy against the new variant, and they have talked about potentially needing to give boosters after one year or so, then it could be used that way?
