This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4129412-1-5-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

6,353,321 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 1 in every 8.3 adults. It’s a truly remarkable achievement to have reached so many people in such a short space of time.

Welcome to the new thread and let’s keep the positive vibes going! Grin

6.8m first doses!

CaveMum · 26/01/2021 16:44

279,757 first doses delivered yesterday.

buttery81 · 26/01/2021 17:12

It's fantastic that another 280,000 people have been vaccinated, but I'm not going to lie - I was hoping for higher. Hopefully tomorrow's figure will be a lovely big one!

Guess it is still weather impacted. Still a good number, anyway, and I'm sure it will pick up tomorrow!

psychomath · 26/01/2021 17:30

It looks like all the UK countries apart from Northern Ireland had lower numbers last Monday compared with the rest of the week, and the previous Monday compared with the next few days. We'll have to wait and see if that's a trend or just a coincidence. 280,000/day is still only just shy of the 2 million/week target though, so even if the higher days turn out to be anomalies it's still going well.

lunar1 · 26/01/2021 17:46

Our centre had to have a day off vaccinating last week so everyone could be trained in for the AZ vaccine, if this has been replicated all over it could explain a lower day yesterday.

Londt · 26/01/2021 18:01

When my in-laws and their local friends called to book their vaccine slots they were offered Thursday/Friday this week or next. I wonder if many of the GP practices and hubs backload the jabbing to the end of the week? It might explain the low early week numbers.

I dunno, as long as it all averages out to plenty of jabs per week there’s lots still to be positive about Smile

lurker101 · 26/01/2021 18:16

@Londt I have been thinking the same - it was always much harder to get a GP appointment on a Monday (when I last had frequent appointments) presumably because of people sick enough for a dr but not sick enough to want to go to out of hours dr at the weekend etc. plus any catch up for GPs from weekend admissions etc. So it would follow that if a Monday is a busy surgery day that GPs would rather schedule their vaccination clinics towards the end of the week. Plus I’ve read a few reports saying that GPs haven’t always had much notice of when their vaccines will arrive (in fact one I know of only got their vaccine delivery the day before appointments) so it would make more logistical sense to book the vaccinations for mid/end of week so that if there are delays or more vaccines delivered you have your admin staff to contact more or less people as the case may be (which would be more feasible Monday-Friday, than over a weekend)

BunsyGirl · 26/01/2021 18:22

My GP clinic seems to vaccinate Thursday to Saturday in the clinic, although they are doing Sunday as well this week as they are getting an extra batch of Pfizer in. My 73 year old dad is currently in a telephone queue to book his appointment!

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 26/01/2021 18:50

The team of nurses that work out of our local vaccination hub seem to vaccinate in the community Monday to Wednesday. Then Thursday and Friday they mass vaccinate at the hub.

A couple of weeks ago they finished the local care homes. Now they are doing people that are housebound. Nurse on Facebook says they will be done by Friday night.

Hopefully once all the tricky community jabs are done they will be running mass vaccinations 5 days a week. They haven't said this yet though.

buttery81 · 26/01/2021 18:53

Yes, it’s worth remembering that we’ve started our vaccination roll-out with some of the hardest groups to vaccinate.

New vaccination centre set up in my city opened yesterday. Mondays seem to be for health and social care staff, Tues-Fri for others (over 80s?).

OooErrThor · 26/01/2021 19:06

All of the GP surgeries in our area were all shut on Friday as they were all doing vaccinations in the local care homes. All done now Smile

I agree with previous posters they are doing the 'harder' ones first so hopefully the figures will climb as the week goes on.

Interesting Twitter thread on the EU/Astra Zeneca issues by Robert Peston twitter.com/peston/status/1354019140084916225?s=21

It is interesting isn't it

So glad we have got so many people done already. We should be ok supply wise for a few weeks. If later on we have to slow down a bit because of the EU. Then at least we have a massive running start.

Hopefully new vaccines out soon anyway. The Pfizer and oxford manufacturers should be busy working out their production issues anyway. Fingers crossed it won't take long.

Mumoftwoinprimary · 26/01/2021 20:12

@CaveMum

Graph looks great today! Almost bang on target, we only need to get the average up to 383,020 per day (from the current 358,724) to hit it. Seeing as we had several days above 400,000 last week I’m confident that we can do it.
A week ago today was 204,000 and today it is 280,000. So an extra 76,000 compared to last week.

Divide by 7 is about 11,000 so the 358,000 will go up to 369,000 on average over the last week.

Getting closer!

For whatever reason Monday’s always seem to be the lowest day. I remember last week feeling disappointed in the numbers and then Tuesday 19th numbers were announced.....

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 26/01/2021 20:28

Baroness Floella Benjamin has spoken of her pride after receiving a first coronavirus vaccine dose.

The 71-year-old actress said she would wear a badge saying "I've had the jab" after being vaccinated.

Crumpetycrump · 26/01/2021 20:47

I’m not sure if this has been posted in full? It’s a very interesting interview with the AstraZeneca CEO:

Thanks for pointing that out @Mumoftwoinprimary - when you put it like that, today’s figure is actually very good!

Roll on Wednesday - let’s get past the 7 million mark!

The figures from Sundays and Mondays (published on Mondays and Tuesdays) have been showing significant troughs compared with the rest of the week for a while now. Odd that it's Sun/Mon rather than Sat/Sun but perhaps Mondays are lower as this is when the deliveries come in after the weekend and the doses have to be prepared.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 26/01/2021 23:57

They are the figures from the day before. So Sunday and Monday figures are in fact Saturday and Sunday figures

Come on 7 million!

My dad is being done today, thanks to those who posted the link. 2 days ago it said he wasn't eligible then he heard his local area were moving onto his age group and tried again yesterday with success. Gives me a lovely optimistic feeling today Smile
