Those who suspect a conspiracy is going on, can someone explain what it is? I agree with the accusations of relentless propaganda and something seems wrong but I just don’t what.

I don’t believe "conspiracy", just that governments sway whatever way the pollsters tell them the majority is leaning and that they avoid doing anything they could be “blamed” for.

So when the shouts of “one life lost to Covid is one life too many” rang out, even though illogical given the attitude to others’ suffering generally as other posters have pointed out, and with the optics of death toll banners and images of bodies, they had to “act”. This will continue until people start to question whether these actions are proportionate (not question whether Covid is real, of course it is!).

Cancer deaths and non- Covid health crises in 12 months’ time, economic destruction of so many industries, businesses and lives are tomorrow’s problem.

tootsytoo · 26/01/2021 21:13

I understand being scared of covid. It’s human. But people need to admit they’re being selfish by wanting a lockdown. They should admit “I’m scared of dying and am happy for others to bankrupt themselves and for children to go hungry and suffer irrevocable mental health damage, to mitigate against the minuscule risk of my death”

To want lockdown to end is far from selfish and anyone who doesn't want it to end is a selfish arse and the epitome of either priveldge OR 'if I'm suffering so should everyone else' mentality.

tootsytoo · 26/01/2021 21:13

Or shall I say 'if I'm at risk and vulnerable everyone else should suffer with me'! Is what it feels like is starting to happen

Dowser · 26/01/2021 22:12

@lovelylittlepanda

Just seen your next post, yeah add "forbid you from starting a new relationship" to the utterly outrageous "verboten" list.

As soon as you want to I think you should invent a new "tinder dates" bubble. It makes as much sense as the rest of the BS.

@Dowser you sound lovely Smile

Gosh thank you, no one has ever said that to me. I’m not really...I’m an angry old crone channeling my inner Kim woodburn

I’ve not quite reached her level yet but it’s fair to say I’m on the slippery slope down.

I’ve hated the loss of our rights since day 1, when we were evacuated back from Tenerife in March..We were in a crowd of 3000 with no masks, no sd, no sanitiser.
The plane was rammed.
Neither me nor my husband, got covid, neither did 5 friends who were evacuated in similar circumstances on different days to different airports.
On the next day the government website downgraded covid from HCID
.
Yet restrictions were already getting tighter.

I just thought I can smell bs and I’m not going to be party to it.
So we’ve just lived our lives as normal all the way through.

I get panned on here for my views but I don’t give a flying fuck, I’m not going to lie.
If people don’t like the truth.
Tough.
I’ll stay out of their lives , they can stay out of mine.

I would never rat on a neighbour either for living their lives.

I can’t understand the snitchers and curtain twitchers.
I know I’m not everyone’s cup of tea..and I really don’t care.
But thank you for the lovely compliment 😁

Dowser · 26/01/2021 22:18

Oh and I went to b and m, the range and home bargains for essential white gloss, Epsom salts for my bath...oh yes and some essential beef crisps.
How did I know they were essential. It had a poster on their doors.
Get your essential items here, so I did.
Shop out, to help out.
There you go Boris you can have that one for free.
You’re very welcome !

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 26/01/2021 22:31

What I hate most of all is the guilt and blame being put on us all, it's horrendous, and I'm worried it will continue even after the pandemic with flu or any other virus. Every time somebody dies of flu or whatever in the future, are there going to be people looking to blame someone for infecting the dead person?

I've felt the guilt myself. Early in lockdown I complied with all the rules. Then later in the summer I met up with an old friend, definitely didn't distance enough and then two days later I came down with a temperature/cough. Had two negative tests over the space of a week. But the guilt and fear I had that I would pass the virus to my parents (before the test results were in) was horrendous. I've felt guilty that they could catch it from my DC from school (before they closed) but just about accepted it because they need to be in school.

But I also needed to see my friend. My mental health wasn't the best before the pandemic after everything I've been through and to have my life reduced to what it has become has made me so angry and sad.

I've been careful since then, for my parents sake. I don't think it's fair to end up feeling such fear though, to expect people to live like this for god knows how long.

I read comments on MN at times of 'I'll abide by the rules as long as necessary' or 'life as we knew it has gone' or 'things won't be back to anything like normal for 5 years' and it makes me wish I weren't here anyway tbh. I cannot live like that.

So for the sake of my sanity once my parents are vaccinated I'll live my life again.

lovelylittlepanda · 26/01/2021 22:32

@Dowser good on you.

My BS detector has been a bit slower to activate ... I feel I've been a bit like the boiling frog, it has all just got more and more preposterous and I haven't really noticed.

Doesn't help to be called a murderer/idiot/selfish Hmm

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 26/01/2021 22:34

@Dowser I went to the co-op for gin and nothing else, do I win the selfish award for going shopping for non-essentials?

Although gin is always essential...

Dowser · 26/01/2021 22:46

Not in my book you don’t!
Anything that keeps you ticking over is vital.

Wherediditgo · 27/01/2021 14:35

I don’t believe "conspiracy", just that governments sway whatever way the pollsters tell them the majority is leaning and that they avoid doing anything they could be “blamed” for

Completely agree with this.
And just wanted to add, the people being polled sway towards which ever direction the media pushes them to.
Be prepared in about 3 weeks time for a change in tone of reporting. It’ll go from ‘NHS at breaking point’ and ‘grim milestone passed’ to ‘children’s mental health in crisis’ and ‘reports of child abuse increase by xx%’
Then, a week or two after, it’ll be ‘economy suffers worst recession since x date’ and ‘xxmillion predicted to be unemployed within 2021’ to try and encourage us all to go out and spend again.

It’s so transparent.

Neron · 27/01/2021 17:47

Fully agree with you Wherediditgo
Wonder if there'll be talking about grades and exam passes being lower as well? People currently seem to think children missing a year or school isn't an issue, but surely there is going to be an issue? Especially those with learning difficulties/non academic etc. May just be my musings

Wherediditgo · 30/01/2021 12:04

Maybe a little earlier than I predicted but... reported in the BBC today:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55863841

LucilleTheVampireBat · 30/01/2021 12:13

I completely agree with you Wherediditgo, I was actually going to start a thread last night!

I actually think that the tone of reporting has changed this week, since Boris said he would set out his "roadmap" out of lockdown. It seems to be that there are fewer articles ramping up fear and berating us do as your told naughty peasants.

LegoLegs · 30/01/2021 16:44

I think if our vaccine supply is interrupted / interferes with and the situation prolonged indefinitely after May, then that's it for me. I'll see anyone who'll see me.

Dowser · 31/01/2021 09:42

@wanderings
I’ve felt for some time now we’ve all been part of some very sick social experiment.
Lab rats.
Good one
Did world leaders decide on a game to see how far they could push their subjects? Just a joke. That can’t be true..so many countries are out now.

@nonono1
I’m so sorry to hear your plight and that of others in similar circumstances. I just feel helpless and hopeless knowing that there is far more suffering out there than the covid acceptors would have us believe.
I’m not old, not elderly , even though I’m not far off 70 but if I were believe me I would be totally voicing my disapproval of these lockdowns and what they’ve done to our beautiful country as it is I’ve taken every opportunity to say that and been slammed for it.

What I do hope when all of this is over is that society as a whole takes more responsibility for their general health so that the nhs is there when we really need it. The fact that it hasn’t been for so many people throughout this is woeful.
I still don’t know if you can actually see a doctor face to face.
Thankfully I haven’t needed one.

Dowser · 31/01/2021 09:44

@LegoLegs

My door is never closed.
BonnieDundee · 31/01/2021 11:18

I'm still playing by the rules but sick to the back teeth of it. Reports of heavy handedness by the police dont help. I'm sure most of them are good people trying to do the best they can but there are definitely a few power hungry officers who are enjoying it.

I am hoping that when the 23 March comes round people will think fuck it, they've had a whole year of my life and they're not having any more.

Got relatives in scotland who I havent seen for a year and a half. Theres no joy left in life and I get so down looking at some threads where people say go for a walk, see the joy in life, play board games with your DC, do crafting, build a bloody tree house in the garden. Yes. I've done most of that with the exception of the tree house. And I never want to play Monopoly again

BonnieDundee · 31/01/2021 11:20

Although this did amuse me briefly i.pinimg.com/736x/84/63/c1/8463c15f32c5c490e379427d94e5de68.jpg

Neron · 01/02/2021 07:47

I still appreciate how rational this thread is. I made the mistake of reading the forced vaccination thread yesterday. It's quite depressing and the divide is obvious on there.

MadameBlobby · 02/02/2021 11:45

I’m just really sceptical at how all of a sudden now there are vaccines available there are “new variants” popping up all over the place which are a threat. Did the virus know we have a vaccine now and mutate itself? Or have there always been “new variants” but they’re only newsworthy now the population is cheesed off and close to giving up.

wanderings · 02/02/2021 13:46

@MadameBlobby I'm sure you've hit a bingo there.
New variants for a new month (February), as the public is getting fed up - how convenient.
Just like that new variant just in time for Christmas - how convenient.
And cases were rising last August, so that Saint Boris had to "squeeeeeeeeeeeze the brakes" - how convenient.

The government just drip feeds them as they see fit. And then, when Saint Boris decides it's time to change the narrative to "Looooooooook! The vaccine is working!!!!" it will be "Variants? What variants? Oh, those were not as dangerous as we thought, nothing to worry about, move along, next slide please."

lovelylittlepanda · 02/02/2021 17:54

@MadameBlobby and @wanderings yes! Yes!!

It's hilarious. My favourite one though was bringing up managed quarantine in hotels (at own expense) just after the story saying older adults who'd had their first jab were booking bus tours and cruises like mad and and SAGA holiday sales were booming.

It's like there was a chorus of "ooooh noooo you doooon't!"

They've had a year to introduce New Zealand style managed quarantine and it has barely got a mention until last month Hmm

juliastone · 02/02/2021 23:06

Thank you for this thread.

Dowser · 11/02/2021 19:28

This snow, rain , wind and hail are just adding to the misery
Today was the first time we’ve seen a blue sky for at least a week.
