Vaccine plan do far

Group 1 to 4 by 15th February

Groups 5 to 9 by end of March

Boris has said so himself

At are current rate of vaccinations we should achieve that

Priority list 2 hasn't been released yet but I think they now have a plan

If we can get vaccinations up to 500k a day or over. Then first and second vaccinations shouldn't be to slow. Supplies will be the issue.

A treatment for long term complications of covid-19 has been discovered in Canada

feelingverylazytoday · 23/01/2021 15:52

^^sounds more of a preventative treatment really, which is great.

alreadytaken · 23/01/2021 15:54

An additional 425,596 vaccinations have been reported over the past 24 hours.

An overall total of 5,526,071 (England only).

Apologies to other parts of UK but these are the first I hear about.

Hi! I thought I should say hello rather than just reading and only ever replying to things that make me cross!

Frazzled2207 · 23/01/2021 16:05

@feelingverylazytoday

There is another article upthread about the Canadian development. Seems very promising stopping deaths and hospitalisations by 40% if given early enough.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/01/2021 16:08

5,861,351 first doses now!

BessMarvin · 23/01/2021 16:28

I know that the vaccine people (I'm sure there's a better phrase) have said that vaccines can easily be tweaked to deal with new variants which is good. But I wonder what happens? Do they stop vaccinating and go back to the start of the list using the new vaccine? Or carry on, use up the old one and then start the new one and once they get through everyone go back to the start and give the oldest people the new one?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 23/01/2021 16:32

I very much doubt they would go back to the start of the list because when they talk about new variants rendering vaccines less effective they mean losing a certain percentage from the efficacy, not the entire thing becoming useless.

I think that was me. The good thing is that it’s a tried and tested, cheap drug (used for gout!) that can be taken by people at risk of complications, and is in tablet form so can be taken outside hospital setting. I think it’s going to be subject to a further trial here now.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/01/2021 16:41

So, that's what, 8 million left to do in 23 days, but we have a day in the bank (min) for reporting delays. So we need an average of 333k jabs/ day at 100% take up or 299k/ day at 90% take up.

louisejxxx · 23/01/2021 16:44

478000 first doses - WOW!

Pomegranatespompom · 23/01/2021 17:00

@FourTeaFallOut now that’s really cheering 😊

FuzzyPuffling · 23/01/2021 17:18

Crikey furries, I'm not starting a new thread if I've got to do all that.
(Good idea, but beyond my gnat-sized concentration span)

Also, things move on so quickly, would it be old news before it got out of the blocks?

carolinesbaby · 23/01/2021 17:26

I got al despondent when I saw that cases in my county have actually increased this week rather than going down overall, as I've seen small decreases every day - then I looked again and the only area of the county showing red is a very sparsely populated area, which also happens to contain a prison! No prizes for guessing what has happened to skew the figures of the whole county!

mrshonda · 23/01/2021 17:35

I hope we can keep these Good News threads going, they help me (and others I'm sure!) so much.

This feels quick but it’s hard to know. Can’t really compare with lockdown 1 as testing was so limited then
Pomegranatespompom · 23/01/2021 18:11

These thread fill so quickly - they are very much needed.

I don’t mind doing one with links to 4 or 5 relevant data sites, it would save doing it several times for new posters and the relevant sites all update themselves- I think she means vaccine trackers etc rather than news stories which would be superseded.

What a lovely day it’s been on this thread. Loving all the positive news rolling in! I took part in the Novavax trial and had some side effects after both jabs, now I really want to know if I’ve had their vaccine and if I can therefore be taken out of the queue (I’m way, way down the list for a vaccine under normal circumstances). If it’s successful, of course...
