Scotland is definitely picking up with 25k vaccines delivered today, up from I think 15/16k this time last week.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2021 18:57

2m lag? That would be amazing. Have you seen that anywhere? (I mean, I can definitely see politically expedient reasons to bank some vaccinations, that would make sense)

FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 18:59

SW News has just agreed that Devon and Cornwall are slower than average on vaccine rollout. But neither county has a mass vaccination hub so that's perhaps not surprising. I'm just glad they 'fessed up - proved I was not going bonkers and making a fuss about nothing (which is good news in itself)

I am not surprised at this. There isn’t a big hub, only GP practices so it will take longer which is unfair as the demographic is an older population.

Hope something positive happens soon. Still clueless as to how my MIL was vaccinated so swiftly. She’s actually feeling guilty because she’s realised none of her friends have been vaccinated yet.

Why don't they open mass hub? Surely there's a football ground or. a massive park they could use - fingers crossed they do.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/01/2021 19:24

Isn’t the problem that the population are dispersed and probably public transport not that great? They need lots and lots of little hubs rather than a mass one, I would think.

Frazzled2207 · 21/01/2021 19:44

this is very good news if it happens, Shocked that only 17% of people are happy to come forward for tests though.

This could be a massive game changer. I am self employed myself and it absolutely sucks that right now if I need to self isolate I basically can't work or claim anything.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 19:51

Nearest football ground would be Exeter - still 50 miles from us and even further from south Cornwall. And no missive parks! This is the rural SW :)

There's talk of opening one at Saltash (next to Plymouth but our side of the bridge) for SE Cornwall. Devon bods are being directed to Taunton in Somerset (70 miles). And a rumour about Wadebridge but I'm not sure how true or where. That's only 30 odd miles!

FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 19:53

countess public transport no good? What do you mean? We have a whole FOUR buses a week (to three different places) Leave at 10am ish, return at 1pm.

(You're right, of course)

Having said that, we have a local town "help" group and people post when their vaccination is, and other people offer a lift. It's very good.

TJ17 · 21/01/2021 19:54

Is there anywhere we can see the amount of vaccines given in the UK per day?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/01/2021 20:01

Fuzzy Taunton folk are being sent to Bristol. It’s bonkers!

I thought the old westpoint in Exeter might be for vaccinations. But I think it’s actually operating as a nightingale covid hospital.

Using somewhere like Eden or Lanhydrock might be a good use of the space.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/01/2021 20:09

It is east London and the parts of the Midlands that are doing the worst from what I have read.

I am guessing the take up is poor because of the multicultural community. Hence why we are now seeing the government actively try to tackle black and Asian reluctance.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 20:14

That's interesting truely and not at all what the local BBC news was saying. I notice this is by "population" rather than "over 80s" for example, so perhaps they aren't comparing apples and pears.

The local PCN has stated that it got 600 vaccines this week but is hoping for a bigger consignment a week on Saturday. 600 vaccines is not very many and will not complete the over 80s, so they won't be finished until 30th January at the earliest. That gives them two weeks to do all the over 70s and all the CEVs - a bigger group than the first lot. What do you reckon are the chances of that?

And Dobby, sending Taunton to Bristol?? That would be mega-annoying.

clarexbp · 21/01/2021 20:15

Tentative good vaccine news coming out of Israel. Medical staff sick days falling since vaccine.

And yes, Westpoint is a Nightingale. It's been in use for quite a while now.

Oh that's a shame - sorry I'm not really sure of the geography there - although seeing the area on TV it looks splendidly beautiful
FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 20:17

Nice graph clarexp. That has potential to be very positive.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 20:19

although seeing the area on TV it looks splendidly beautiful Indeed it is...but bloody useless in a pandemic! (Largely because it's a long thin county with sea on three sides!)

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 21/01/2021 20:39

I think part of the issue with Cornwall is apparently it has a larger population of wrinkles Grin

That means as well as your problem of rural geography and vaccine supply it has a larger population in groups 1 to 3.

FuzzyPuffling · 21/01/2021 20:47

Absolutely truely. I'm sure every large house here is either owned by Londoners or is a care home!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 21/01/2021 20:49

Definitely sending people in Taunton area to Bristol for vaccination. It’s a big journey for the over 80’s to make.

If the racecourse is meant for Devonians, it’s only operates when the horses aren’t racing!

I wonder why the Racecourse in Devon isn’t a vaccination hub.

JustFoldInTheCheese · 21/01/2021 21:11

I think Westpoint in Exeter is being prepared at the moment.

The Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge would be a good spot for Cornwall.

thatgingergirl · 21/01/2021 21:13

TJ17 - does this cover what you want? coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/vaccinations If you hover over the top of the "blocks" on the graph (don't know the proper word!) it shows the daily number.

Zogstart · 21/01/2021 21:17

So Cornwall have done a decent % of their overall population but because they have a greater % of older people they still haven’t anywhere near finished their over 80s? This could actually work in Cornwalls favour. Government will be desperate to meet their target so everything will get thrown at finishing Cornwalls older population then come 15 Feb they’ll actually have a bigger % of their overall population done. See there’s positive news to be found everywhere.
