Could it be possible for him to improve now!???

Yesterday I just thought this is it
Hospital and downhill from there

My husband is extremely vulnerable (shielder) and has covid. We have found eating little and often to be better than a large meal. I nearly called an ambulance for him the other night as his sats dropped to 90 after eating a large meal. He was then sick and his sats went back up to 97. Just something you could try if you notice the same.

dublingirl66 · 21/01/2021 15:03

Interesting thank you

How is he now?
Sorry to hear he has been struggling

It is a worry for us as we are sick too

He is on day 7 today and not doing great but his sats are ok so we are taking it hour by hour. The entire household has had it (2 adults and 5 kids) I'm on day 10 and feel much better although still get a little breathless. It's a very scary time. How are you feeling now?

dublingirl66 · 21/01/2021 15:07

Hello
Very similar to you

All in the house positive
I'm day 11
But better each day

Hope you all get through it ok
Doctor said day 7-10 watch out and keep an eye on the sats

Yes, OP, it is possible that he might improve. The trouble with this virus is that it ebbs and flows, it doesn't seem to follow a standard pattern.

They things that would reassure me are that, he's eating and drinking, he looks much better, the paramedics have been and didn't appear too concerned, his sats are generally good.

All you can do is what you are doing - which is amazing by the way - lots of rest, food and drink little and often, and monitoring his sats, temp, etc. If he goes downhill again, don't hesitate to contact help again. If he's not already on 6 hourly paracetamol, I would add that - regardless of how he's feeling. Hopefully the antibiotics have kicked in, but they can make you feel a bit off generally.

One thing I would say, is that if he does have a better day, don't let him do too much, he needs lots of rest. The immune system needs to overcome the virus, and if we overload it by doing too much, it weakens it. It's got enough to do beating the virus.

@SophieB100. Am I right in remembering that you are NHS? Either way, I'm curious what you say about Panadol as I read it was better not to take it, if you could manage without, as the temperature would fight the virus off better/quicker??

@dublingirl66. I'm SO glad to hear that your Dad seems a lot better today. And has eaten! As others have said, it's not a linear recovery, so don't be too disheartened if he goes a bit backwards (but hopefully he won't). It's incredible how they look so frail & go downhill so fast!

Do both/all try the breathing exercises, it can't hurt & may well hope, even if you don't feel short of breath.

I'm sadly unsurprised a family member got it in hospital. It must be SO hard for them being so short staffed, but I hope they can put more controls in place.

dublingirl66 · 21/01/2021 15:30

Ok that is so so helpful

Many thanks

Been doubting myself so far

OP posts:
SophieB100 · 21/01/2021 15:37

No, I'm not NHS, my DD is an ITU nurse though. Is Panadol the same as paracetamol? NHS guidance is to take paracetamol for Covid, as it has fewer side effects than Ibuprofen. Yes, our temps do fluctuate to try and 'break' a virus, you're absolutely right. However, I know from when I had swine flu (and I took paracetamol and brufen then) there was no way I could tolerate the high temp, I was hallucinating and shaking uncontrollably. I suppose it depends on how you feel, how high the temp etc.

SophieB100 · 21/01/2021 15:39

Don't doubt yourself OP, you're scared, and you're unwell yourself, but you're doing really well. You followed your instinct when you got the paramedics, and trust yourself to do the right thing if you have to again.

DrCindyPops · 21/01/2021 17:31

Don't doubt yourself, your doing great whilst unwell yourself. I'm glad he seems a bit better today.

dublingirl66 · 21/01/2021 18:36

Glad to hear that you're improving and your DF is too OP.
Take it as easy as you can, hard I know when you're looking after him. But you need to look after yourself too.
Fingers crossed you both continue to improve Flowers

dublingirl66 · 24/01/2021 18:22

He is slowly improving
Good and bad days

We are all exhausted right now

OP posts:
BrettAndersonscheekbones · 24/01/2021 18:31

Yes, I had the terrible backache, also going down the legs. Started to ease off a bit around day 10. I'm now on day 13, still really weak, I literally hobble downstairs for a cup of tea and then have to come straight back to bed.

dublingirl66 · 24/01/2021 18:54

Hobble hobble
Ughhh
Damn you virus

How have you been up until now?

Some very bad days here
So glad we are at least slowly improving

How about others?

OP posts:
DrCindyPops · 24/01/2021 19:22

Glad you are at least improving. It can take a really long time unfortunately but hopefully you feel more normal soon. I feel a lot better but still don't have anywhere near the fitness I had and I had it in November.
Hopefully you both continue to improve a bit each day Thanks

dublingirl66 · 24/01/2021 19:33

Gosh sorry to hear that

Sounds like many take well over 4-8 weeks to get back to normal

Love to everyone who helped on here

Wrapped in about ten blankets
Not helping much

Any ideas?
